Thanks Anthony . Prime example of : " A good Safe is better than a bad run-out ". For perhaps the first time ; I finally see the "Chess" of 8 ball ! Thanks again.
This stuff is very important! Especially in bar table pool where the balls get so congested. If I can ever help. you with any personalized instruction let me know. I am playing in my first eight ball leagues this year and was pretty surprised that there were so many “safety’s” being played. This video has given me some much needed information to help my game be more competitive. Thanks Anthony
I won a lot of games on bar tables using my head and skills. When telling players who asked for advice, I told them pool was a game of skill mixed with chess moves. Most thought I was a crazy old man, so I just kept on winning. LOL! Don't play anymore since my back injury, but it is a fun and fulfilling game when you play it using your chess skills as well as pool shooting skills.

There’s some great info in here. While it is long, the content justifies the length. I’ve been guilty for a few years of clearing the table to enable my opponent to easily run out, I knew I was capable of the run out, but missing shape on a later ball made the run out very difficult and if I missed, well, my opponent had an easy out. Knowing these moves would enable me to survive to get the win. Just watching the shot is one thing but knowing why and the strategy behind the move is equally important! Great video, glad I joined your class!
This was one of the most helpful things about defense and the ideas of each rack. I have been watching your videos and do the training on my table. My shooting game and defensive game has jumped about 40% better than it was.
I was always an aggressive player. Took low percentage shots instead of playing safeties. Sometimes won and looked great but more often than not opened the table. Began learning how to play safe shots with your video and it's helped my win percentage for sure. Thank you. All your videos are great.
Anthony is a fantastic instructor. This video helped me a great deal. Anthony's course in 3 weeks has me finishing top 5 in small tournaments after a 20 year break from pool. Once you sign up for his course you will begin to understand why you see top pros doing the same things he is teaching. This system works!
I play this game alot where my opponent priority is just about not leaving a shot. Leaving me long. Delaying the game.they all like to start conversation with other people instead of playing. I just want to play.

Except for one thing. The 12 percent to play that ball is actually bigger. Reflective position ( rails returning the cueball back to position zones) each side is actually4 times bigger- minus the pocket. I NEVER HAVE PROBLEMS GETTING POSITION ON THIS BALL. The point that it’s easier to safe u is a great point.
Thanks Anthony I was playing English straight pool for years of and on when coming across your channel it's given me much more ideas yo play in my game I never played tactics very much before but now with your advice I'm forward to some strategist pool hopefully I will win more games than I lose now thank you so much look forward to more content

This fits my brain. I win a lot ie 26/30 as a 4 playing often 5 and 6s. Mostly because I outsmart them. They all shoot better than me. I LOVE these concepts to add.

In scenario 3 science when is their any pool tourneys that allow you to not hit your own ball without ball in hand? I'm so confused with your thought. Been playing for 30 years and if you don't hit your ball first then a rail it's ball in hand for your opponent
@@poolteacher in American 8 ball you always need to hit your balls first then a rail or Ball in hand. How are you an instructor if you don't know that?

I got confused with the “use your opponents balls for defense” part. Ha ha I’m still watching but had to comment while it’s on my mind. If you shot the solid, and it wasn’t a foul, that meant your opponent was stripes, yet you blocked the shot on the stripe with another solid. Wouldn’t that mean that you used your own ball to block your opponent?
During the 1st segment, I'm confused as to why you wouldn't have had the cue ball come off the end rail for a better safety instead of leaving it open for an easy hit.
Off the end rail? The angle precluded me from doing that. I was opening up my balls. I’d rather leave them long than an easy one rail kick where they can put speed on it. Still not sure what you are talking about.
@@poolteacher @8:07 shooting the 3 with a stun shot instead of a draw, it looks like you could have hit the 1 and played a very good safety by leaving the ice ball between the two stripes....11 and 13 I think it was. If you were planning on playing safe, from my vantage point that would be a safer play leaving an improbable shot for your opponent if playing a safety was the plan. I was simply asking if there was a reason you did t take that route instead. Sorry if I was unclear in my I intial response.
Great question but in reality that’s not as easy as it looks. If I don’t get 100 percent straight in then I have to shoot the 2 into the five leaving him the 12. It’s not as straightforward as you would think. Shooting that shot does not have a potential 2 shot advantage. If I shoot the shot my way my if my opponent is a decent player he will have to comply with me and shoot the 14 next.

Your last shot is not allowed in some rules as u cannot benefit from a foul shot. In this case the opponent would have the option to nominate one of your bals or have ball to the baulk. Some brilliant strategy advice tho. Thank u.
The shot is not a foul. I shot my ball and made his. I’m not sure why it would ever be a foul. Are you talking about some special set of rules? Never heard of that before. My shot is legal in all national 8-ball tournaments.

Thanks for being a subscriber! I am thinking maybe I don't need to do 5 things per week. Maybe 1? Maybe that would shorten the videos some. Thanks for your input!
Man on that first shot run it forward so you have a shot on the 1 then call a safety and sink the 1 leaving cueball near pocket you are standing at. You are over thinking making the safety and moving the 1 instead of taking the easy safety plus sinking the problem ball
I got down to the final four of the winners bracket of the BCA National 8-Ball Championship using the strategies discussed in this video. There were 1200 players in that event. You just shouldn’t remove balls until you can runout. I understand the urge to get trigger happy. But you shouldn’t do it. No matter how tempting.
erm for a guy that talks about playing the percentage game in pool your math sucks buddy! 100% -minus 12% is 88% not 78% as you kept saying. Jeez man, and you want me to take your advice seriously!
Jez man...there is roughly 10 percent more of the table where your opponent could be left with a more difficult, but makable shot or even a pocketable bank... making it 78 percent. A bank from that kind of position is a low percentage make for the best players in the world. However, it does happen. Watch some one pocket. Count the banks then report back to me...I think I am dead on with the 78 percent number!
Alex, from my perspective Anthony is one of the premier online instructors I've found. Whether we're talking 78%, 88% is not the point. The point is how to gain the advantage. Placing your balls in a high percentage portable position, etc. etc. is very good advise.
I think the ball on the end rail is worse than you have said. If there is 12.5% of the table from the first diamond and the ball can be made from two triangles on either side of the ball inside that 12.5%, I reckon that leaves about 8% of table that the ball can be made from.
