@HS Melvin Lopez exactly (I agree with you), If a parent is dumb enough to buy something that is clearly not meant for a child, such as a competitive online fighting game, then it´s not the company´s responsibility to censor the game, at least, it shouldn´t be.

Not only did KOF 14 have butt slaps, boob jiggling etc, but it passed with a T for Teen rating as well. Which is something that Capcom claimed was a big reason for the censorship that SFV got. Only time I interest to see Japanese game is if the cut scene/extra stuff are in it before remove that part and ship to US. (Example: Kingdom Heart, Japanese version show extra cut scene and boss battle but was remove in US version)

Right? And that's not even counting the tons, and tons of fighting games rated T that have characters using swords as well as other various assortments of weaponry! Also, what's weird to me is that even though Bandai Namco published this game, they had no problem censoring this, but saw no issue with the swords in their other games like Soul Calibur and Tekken.

The weirdest thing is the game has swearing and suggestive themes/dialogue in it, clearly not stuff for kids to see, but swords apparently cross the line? I don't get that part.

Normally the things that get censored are ultimately relatively minor changes and people still buy the game anyway because all the things they were buying the game for are still there. There are exceptions when things that get censored are considered core parts of the experience, like with Conker and TMS, but those are ultimately pretty rare. Outside of a very small number of people who will, on principle alone, not buy a game just because there was censorship in it at all, the number of people for whom the difference between a purchase an not a purchase was a slightly-concealing curtain in one random image or green blood instead of smoke from a hydra is likely double digits at *most*

Android 19 uh disagree. People that are educated about the product they are buying, want the game they were promised before all the black sharpie markings. I know allot of games that got censored that just killed my/others hype and this goes for phone app games too. I came for the artistic touch of sexually appealing characters or massive gore/violence or whatever it was that caught my attention. But they got censored and bam just moved on too something else. These people that change these things don't know the audience they're selling too or don't care/ maybe they're just overthinking things cause we the west are idiots or overly sensitive. PLUS we should never be okay with any censorship in its whole for the arts(games are art).

Muhammad Lee I agree that generally censorship results from people not knowing their audiences and it generally makes the game worse. What I'm saying is it's very rare for the drop in quality as a result of that censorship to be significant enough to affect sales outside of people who don't buy games with any kind of censorship on principle, who aren't a large enough audience to bother catering to. I wouldn't be surprised if that's different for phone games, since there's five million ones that are basically the same and they're all shit, but for real games that's the case. Again, there are exceptions where censorship goes really far and does significantly impact the game's quality but such instances are rare enough that they don't factor in when talking about censorship as a whole. I would agree that we should never be okay with any censorship, but that would require drawing a hard yet arbitrary line between what's censorship and what's just localization that I'm not comfortable drawing. For instance, when Bravely Default was brought to the west, the characters' ages were increased by a few years. It's clearly not an issue, but a case could be made that it's still censorship. A bunch of people called the removal of that Tracer pose in Overwatch censorship, but realistically it was developers of a game still in development taking out something they weren't happy with and replacing it with something they thought was better (and really, it was). A reasonable rule there is that censorship can only happen when it's a change to a finished product, but when it comes to games we have early access and all these patches and updates so what the "finished product" is decided to be is also becoming more and more arbitrary. For instance Skullgirls at some point got an update after launch which changed some sprites to ones that the developer thought looked better, and as a result a small number of panty shots were lost from a game that still had plenty of panty shots in it. A lot of people called that censorship and may not have been wrong to do so, but does that mean that you're not allowed to change any content in a game after it comes out? How far does that extend? Is it only visuals, or do balance changes not count because the gameplay isn't part of the art? If a character in a MOBA gets one of their moves replaced is that censorship because now there's a whole animation that's no longer in the game? If so I can't say I oppose reworking characters, so I can't say I oppose censorship wholecloth. Or maybe censorship is only when violent or sexual content is removed? Well that's also highly arbitrary and puts that content on an untouchable pedestal that it doesn't really deserve. Or maybe censorship can *only* happen during localization? That also seems too limited. I suppose that you could define censorship as anything that *isn't* okay, but that's an even more arbitrary distinction and makes the statement that we should never be okay with censorship pointless.

I don't get why conglomerates like WB, Disney and Viacom can't collaboratively allow game studios like Ganbarion or Alpha Dream (much less fans) to create crossover games featuring their characters. Not only would it promote/revive/reintroduce obscure characters to their target audience (adults aka grown-up kids) but it could solve any 'mysteries' and fill any plot holes left in the original series (among other things). Besides, wouldn't you want to see Bushroot (from Darkwing Duck) and Poison Ivy (of Batman fame) or Sheldon (MLaaTR) and Giffany (Gravity Falls) hit it off? SpongicX you can't censor something you never showed to begin with.

Palutena's actually censored in the Japanese version, at least partially. They darkened the area under her dress so you cant see her shorts as easily. Not to the extent of Peach though.

With Rosalina, I feel that was way more of a style choice over a censorship choice.

They went with less detailed cause Sakurai wanted them to be more cartoon like and not so realistic looking.

Preeeetty sure the stick would break far before going through someone. At least with the sword it's a clean cut, and while it wouldn't be more "painful" than if a stick impaled you, it'd do more lasting damage, especially with multiple quick slashes.
