Oh yes, I was first going to do that part again just with my backdrop at home but then decided that it is very authentic to show that things often go wrong! 😄 There was another situation as well that I didn't show - I tripped on the tripod and the camera went flying!!
@TuulaMaaria I was crocheting along while this video was running, so I couldn't see at first, what you meant... you can imagine my surprise, for a short time i was wondering how can you possibly have your head missing..hahaha .. until I checked out the video with undivided attention. 😊
Your "fix-it" videos/tutorials are so clever...and easy/simple. I think the "turn your work like the pages of a book" is my new mantra 🤗. I don't often struggle with this, but occasionally my mind says "oh, wait, which way am I going with this?" Usually happens when I'm watching something on TV and I've lost my focus momentarily 😉( I have done the frog out a few rows and skip a stitch every so often...has saved a few projects. ) Thank you for another video of great tips. Have a lovely day. 🌞
Love your suggestions for losing at Yarn Chicken. I've always backed stitches out & crocheted tighter. I never thought to use a smaller hook, frog 3 rows & leave 1 row out or alter the actual stitch itself. Great suggestions. Thanks so much.
About the mismatched pairs: I had an Aunt who knitted & when she made socks she used either very long needles or the ones attached with a cable. Then she actually knitted both socks at the same time on the same needle. She used the same skein/ball for both with a long thread attaching them at the beginning. It was so funny watching her do that but she always ended up with a perfectly matched set. 😅
That sounds like looping sock on a circular needle. That is a popular technique, although when I have seen it, it has always been from two separate balls.
I'm sure every body has been liking your new crochet shirt!. Tuula its very beautiful i like the bottom half circle.. All the colors look as it is 1Skein tied together turnout amazing.🤗🙌 I love when Crochet Creactors Crochet things for themselves, without even using a pattern all by free hand. This is one of the best way to get started in making your own patterns if you wanted!
Thank you, glad you like it! I used many left-over balls of cotton yarn for the top. You are right, starting to make things for yourself is a good way to start designing!
Another timely & informative video! I just finished a queen sized blanket and was playing yarn chicken so your tip of decreasing random number of stitches was great and eased my mind, I was able to finish the border! Would it be possible Miss Tuula, to do an in depth video on doing different corners? Square vs round and how many stitches to use for sc,hdbl, dbl etc and where exactly does the corner begin & exactly where to put corner stitches? Also I often struggle with finding the beginning of the yarn from the inside a new skein, any tips on that? I end up wasting so much time unraveling from the outside which isn't really convenient. Thank you for another great video, I always learn something new and you have given me the confidence to try new projects and techniques 😊
Just a suggestion on the centre pull issue...we all have that problem unfortunately. One way to help is buy a Yarn Ball Winder. Now you will still have to find the centre pull & deal with a bit of yarn barff . However, by winding your skein into a cake would allow you to leave a length of yarn for the centre pull as long as you want plus allows you to inspect the yarn while winding it for knots or inconsistencies. I also saw the other day, some companies are now leaving a tail from the center & attaching a paper sticker to the end. Genius & I wish all Yarn Manufacturers did this. Good Luck & I hope this helps you.
@bethhasilo1536 Thanks Beth! Can you suggest a brand of winder or are they all pretty much the same? I have read reviews but prefer a personal suggestion. 😊
They come in various price ranges. Mine is a Knitters's Pride Signature which is expensive at $175 Cnd. It was a 60th birthday present from my Mother & Siblings. I do highly recommend this one as it is so smooth. If you search Jayda In Stitches, she bought one & did a unboxing video that shows you how to set it up & how beautifully it glides. If that price point is too high for you, search Amazon, Michael's or Walmart. You should be able to find one from $30 Cnd & up. I would suggest you read up on the model you are looking at because you want to ensure you buy one that can hold larger skeins to avoid making numerous smaller skeins. I'm sorry I can't recommend a specific brand for you on the lower priced ones because I don't own one but I believe Mikey Sellick from the Crowd Crowd did a video them. Perhaps RU-vid or Google could assist you in your search as well. Good Luck!
@@Pakrs61. I got a plastic ball winder from KnitPicks. It works fine, but it’s not very durable. A little piece of plastic broke off where you snap the metal yarn guide in, after not that much use. It may partly be because of my clumsy arthritic hands. I can still use it - I use my hand to direct the yarn into the metal guide, anyway- but if I could afford it, I would get something that’s not so flimsy.
Dear Tuula, Thank you so much for this tutorial it is always appreciated and I love learning new tips and techniques to help me improve my crochet 🧶 I also love the scenery I have nearly mastered your hold technique, I occasionally lapse into having my index finger pointed for tension, your technique gives me so much more control and I’m able to hold my piece with both hands especially if it has a lacy/drape it makes it much easier to work on… Thank you! Excellent Tips and Tricks! God’s Blessings to you and all 🙏🏽💜🩷🧶🥰
I would say that it doesn't make a difference if you turn "like a book" but if you turn the other way round, then it is important to chain first, to avoid having the yarn in front of your work and having to move it to position for the next stitch.
I love your videos. The places you show us are so beautiful. Yes, these tips are very helpful. I wish I could hold my yarn that way. It looks for effortless. When I started, I tried different ways and landed on the double wrap around my index finger.
I hold my yarn the same way and everyone around me calls me crazy because they don't think I have tension on my yarn ..I enjoy seeing a very skilled crocheter doing it the same way .
When I knit a cardigan or sweater I always knit the two sleeves at the same time, I have been knitting and crocheting for about 60 years and always do it this way.
I love your tips! Just going through channels and saw yours and I would love to know for left handed crotchet person I am 50 and have been crocheting since I am 10. I am great at blankets my speciality but I am always struggling with certain patterns because I free crochet and just try different things. I learned from my mom rest her soul, she was a righty though lol so I just struggle with clothing and if you have tips for left handed people that would be helpful. The more you practice the better you get. I would love any tips via left handed
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't know anything about left-handed crochet. I have tried at times, and I know some youtubers reverse all videos so they post them twice but I don't know if that works. I hope you find some channels that are useful to you.
I was making a blanket from even squares, and before the last one, both yarns I was using went out of stock, EVERYWHERE T_T Then, as you mentioned tension, the lightbulb came to my brain...I can actually redo the blanket (pretty small too) so it can be a table cover- my cat sleeps on it anyway, so won't be such a big change at all for my original plan, still be useful, and I won't be frustrated by looking at all the time. Thank you! 🥰💜
Oh my goodness, I recently made four baby booties (well, five if you count the first practice bootie which I pulled out) and none of them matched each other exactly! I did try making two together, but I think I was stressed for time by then, because they kept getting tighter. There were two that were close enough, though, thankfully, as I was running out of yarn! 😂
Hi Tuula I can tell you are a teacher. You cover a very large spectrum of crochet problems. So, on RU-vid I will tune in to your channel to get help first. Your tutorials are so clear.Enjoy your Sunday🍹💞
I explained in the video that I will unfortunately not make a tutorial, that shape would be so complicated to explain in all different sizes, the half circle part. Maybe I will make one later, similar but one that would be easier to make in a smaller and larger size!
As far as the chicken. I always buy 2 maybe 3 skeins of yarn at a time. But make sure you check dye lot. I hate just buying 1 skein. But when you see something you like and thats all they have. Then you have to hope and wait until it's out again. Hoping it's not discontinued. 😊
Thank you Tuula, I’m enjoying all your tips so I can help other’s at community center. Because I can make items, doesn’t mean I truly understand the basics. I am feeling more confident as I watch your videos. 😊 💕💃🏻
Excelente!!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful teacher, thank you 🙏🏻 I just noticed that I crochet holding the yarn exactly like you… I always thought I was doing it wrong 😬 Great video… Gracias 💕
Hello... Very helpful.. Again I come to you for help. I have problems in knittingand just cannot get straight edges.... ESPECIALLY... with cotton. My edges are horrible. I ve even tried knitting the purl side with example n4 needle and knit side with n5 needle..... Also viceversa... BUT I just have a horrible tension. I need to come to you so you can give me lessons on tension.... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You are a great teacher. With crochet I have a little less problems. Thankyou
Thank you! About knitting - what technique do you knit? Does your yarn run smoothly inside your left hand or do you need to do something by touching the yarn with every stitch?
What would you say to someone; who wants to rip out; instead of fix just the issue. I avoid the rip as much as possible. Some people think that is wrong to fix; that we must rip. lol that the project must be redone at every mistake.
I suppose it depends on one's personality. I don't mind small mistakes as long as they don't show much.I would find ripping out because of a small mistake to be a terrible waste of time. Often mistakes can also be fixed by sewing, like making a stitch look different by sewing something with the same yarn.
Hi, Tuula I got a tip-hack when it comes to weaving in Chenille yarn. Once you've cut the yarn you'll notice loose Chenille fibers, coming off from the end you cut. You will see a white thread this is the thread you'll weave in,this way is better N easier for you it won't come undone nor fray at all!. Hopefully someone will try it or maybe someone has already tried this method N works for them too.. This is what they use to hold the Chenille yarn together,This why it frays some much also... Thank Tuula for🧶🧶🤗 all your tips-hacks
My mother always knitted her two sleeves/socks/gloves at the same time on longer knitting needles with 2 balls of yarn. They always ended up the exactly same in length and increase/decrease. 🧶
