I love the “would I buy this again?” question. I haven’t heard that one before. I’ve realized recently that I’m better at watching decluttering videos than I am at actually decluttering. Is that normal? 🤔😉

Omg!! I love u kimstube, I was reading ur comment 5 seconds after I told myself I've got to get up and start this process instead of being so great at watching them declutter &writing down all the tips.. I literally lmao when I read ur comment ... That is me to a tee... But don't u bet we're totally AWESOME at watching these decluttering videos... this is so true for me too & I appreciate you saying it because it made me think about how to translate into action & I decided I need to pick one thing/tip & do it for 20 minutes or whatever seems realistic & then I think of a reward I can look forward to at end of that time & it worked to get me started… sometimes I can continue on longer, sometimes I break for reward & then set up a second session in same format - in any case it has helped so thank u!

Set a timer for 15 minutes and just go. Getting started is the hard part. But then don’t burn yourself out!

There is a method called "box and banish" which I love. You pick an area, such as a counter top, and put everything that doesn't belong in the box. The area is immediately clear and so satisfying, You then go through the box at your leisure. Seeing a clear space immediately really clears your mind and motivates you to keep going.

This was how we tended to tidy when I was a child.. but the box would feel intimidating, filled with so many categories of objects. Not a good method if you have issues with executive function ♡

I want to do this... but I never get back to it and then I might miss important documents. But I am a cricket clutterbug that needs to deal with everything now or I forget it like a bee or butterfly might if it is out of sight. I reorganized some stuff recently and can't find something because it had a permanent home, and I moved it and can't remember where.

@@sophiesong8937 I couldn’t agree more. As someone with ADHD, I end up with 50 boxes of random stuff and I end up stashing the boxes away and buying the same things over again when I struggle to find things immediately.

The "No-mess-Method" is a no for me. If I leave the stuff I´m sorting at the moment I´d find tons of things to do then. You know, bring one thing to the kitchen- see the dishes need to be done- start there- oh I need a new towel- end up sorting towels instead, but before sorting towels folding the ones from the laundry first- ending up making laundry. By then I have started making a mess in every room with half-done sorting... I can´t be the only one...

OMG I thought I actually had a mental issue because of that problem.. actually went to the GP and she suggested I get tested for ADHD by a psychiatrist..turns out I'm just an average mum..

I found motherhood always had me on standby to help the family. Getting projects done was a major accomplishment for me! Maybe there are seasons where one thing works better than at another time. (We just moved - it’s different for me than other times.). See my note 📝 if interested.

I've started doing the no-mess because of 1) ADHD causes me to leave things in random places and 2) fitbit gives me props for all those steps. :-)

I've made a little change to the "Four Sort Method". I have a Five Sort Method. I have paperwork everywhere, so I added a Shred container. This way, if I need to sit for a few minutes, I can sort out anything I need to shred. I'll use this 5th bag until I get more of my house under control. 😊

Same here. I got a lot of paperwork to go through, so now I have a folder designated for what I need to shred. It's very helpful.

I recently completed decluttering the rest of my basement. I never would have started without the KonMari method because it was all so overwhelming. When I listed all of the categories and tackled one at a time, I achieved fast wins! Paperwork, check! Clothing, check! Old teaching materials, check! Craft supplies, books, miscellaneous decorations...I’m so proud of myself!

I tried most of them but the no mess is my favorite. I get tired very easily so just knowing that when I say I am finished, I really am. Thanks for your great videos.

Agreed! I used to pull everything out and be left with crazy messes for days or months over and over again. Now I think..."do no harm." It helps. I still love pulling things out and organizing, but at the end I scoop it all back where it went. If I didn't get far, I don't worry about it because sometimes it's just for fun (makeup or earrings).

Yes! Although I run the risk of finding the stuff I gave them to put away being randomly dumped on the floor when they got distracted by something shiny. Distraction is so important. Yesterday I tragically discovered our deep freezer hadbeen switched off and I had to spend an hour throwing virtually everything out. Adding insult to injury, my kids decide to do some painting while I was busy. Oh the humanity!

As someone with multiple chronic illnesses, it can feel overwhelming to even know how to begin with cluttered spaces especially not knowing how long I'll have before my body gives out. The Garbage Bag Therapy is one way to quickly make me feel empowered - in a short amount of time, there's a noticeable 'dent' in the clutter and then I can build on that little success with bigger sorting/de-cluttering. So often, it's just overwhelming to know how/where to start - the trash bag approach takes some of that overwhelm away. It's just a reminder that when I can't do everything, just do something small. As a recovering "perfectionist" I need to keep this in mind. :) Thanks for the great video!

You might want to check out Dana K White - her method sounds really similar to what you're doing, and her motto is "Better is Good".

KC Davis with struggle care is also amazing. She has a book called how to keep house while drowning. She focuses on teaching that cleaning is morally neutral, and you're not a bad person when your house is a mess. She also has a serious on digging out of your depression house. She uses a 5 things method of cleaning. Trash, dishes, laundry, stuff that has a place, stuff that doesn't have a place. And doing one thing at a time

Decluttering has to be done in small increments for me. I work on a drawer or section at a time to keep from becoming overwhelmed. I scout for trash like you did in the kids spaces. Removing everything all at once and then trying to sort through it can be daunting. Decluttering is only half the job, staying committed to your final choices is key. Whether you sell, donate or ditch your items you have to follow through with it.

There is also another method so No 6:... "the Swedish Death Cleaning Method".. It is great when you have got into a routine and find decluttering easier.. I just used it on my 3rd round of "sentimental category" decluttering.. I still had diaries and letters from eg. Previous boyfriends... So I read them, had a giggle, and then got rid of 98 percent of them because with this method you have to ask yourself "would I want my kids/family reading/seeing this stuff if I "suddenly died"!".. The Covid19 triggered me to do this method! It's very effective! In Europe our" trash" pile has to be subcategories into "recycle" and "incinerator/landfill". The recycle has to be subcategorised into plastic and metal, paper and cardboard, clear and colored glass, degradable wood and garden/food waste, batteries, light bulbs, small and large electronics, cloth (clothes, bedding, towels, shoes etc) and medications. All these categories are picked up by recycling trucks, or you have to take it to recycling banks, skips, yards, or certain shops.. Eg DIY stores take batteries and light bulbs, supermarkets take paper, cardboard, plastics and the drinks bottles (plastic or glass), the chemist takes old medication ...and so on!

I like that mind set of Death Cleaning too. We don't have children so who knows who will go through our stuff. Nonetheless having recently lost my mother I am very aware of the amount of thngs we hang on to for no reason. The sentiamental things will make very little sense to other people, eg a full tin of spam. So that is in a box that will be marked to throw out along with other personal things that I can't quite let go. I also like the bin/recycle/donate/sell/doesn't belong technique.

@@MsAngeldrake yes I would say that question is perfect for very personal sentimental stuff eg letters and diaries, photos.... .. But for the rest of the categories in the Swedish Death cleaning method you just have to ask yourself "would they really want it? or is it just important to me?"... So for the other stuff eg I have collected things on my travels which are decoration in my house and have sentimental value to me to eg paintings, sculptures, furniture etc. To me they are important because it was from my travels, but it was not their travels. So I have written a letter to them, which states they are free to get rid of it all, unless they really want to keep something of it- but they should not feel that they have to keep it "just because it was special to me!" And for the remaining categories .. Which I used eg the ConMari method to declutter, I told them in the letter I only have those things out of necessity eg kitchenware etc.. And they should also not feel they have to keep any of it.. They should just sell/donate/trash it! Important is that you "give your family the right" to get rid of all your stuff!... So they don't feel "guilty" about not wanting it. Then they feel OK about getting rid of it! I only have one extra part in my letter.. Because my children are still young (8 and 15).. If I suddenly died tomorrow.. I have asked that the things in my sentimental category eg photos, some of my travel stuff which I know they love and has meaning to them to (I included a list with my letter) should be kept for them until they are 24.. Then they can decide what they want to keep.. And my photos from family and my life they should keep until they have their own kids... Because I have learnt from all the minamalism channels I watch that millennials are quick to throw everything out.. But when they start having their own families/kids.. They wished they hadn't and wished they had some of the sentimental to show their kids! Hope this helps you.. Good luck🍀

@@rebeccarendle3706 you just helped me in so many ways. But the fact that I've had a brain tumor for the last 15 years and I'm supposed to have a living will, which I still haven't done only because I didn't know what to put. I just figured my stuff will fall on my daughter and if my mom is still with us; she'd get what she wants or it'd just stay the same in my family home til someday my daughter let's go of it. I'm starting to allow myself to change things and let go of my grandparents stuff. The decorations on a wall my grandma put up, paint the walls and design it more for me and hopefully someday my spouse. Some of the stuff I'll keep because they were important to me the family pictures always be displayed and saved I just need to find a good way is store them the ones they do put away; do you have any suggestions on how to save stuff like that ? Also is the ConMari method the letters? If its more can you explain that method for me. The help I get here also is shared with my mom; getting her to help declutter her stuff will save me from a lot of pain that I've already been feeling with the grand's stuff. I've been even finding stuff that belonged to my aunt who passed when I was young.

@@MsAngeldrake Hi again.. Sorry to hear about your brain tumor.. Stay positive and enjoy life as well as you can.. .. And it's great you are changing the home to your taste...enjoy it.. It's your home! All the old stuff from your family... 1) ask your mum and daughter if there is anything they know now that they would like to keep..do not ask about "specific objects" otherwise they might feel obligated to say yes...My mum did this with my sister and I.. She asked us to walk around the house and see if there was anything we really wanted to inherit so she could write/record it in a letter. We told her, and the rest she knows we don't want.. So she can declutter it if she wants. 2) if they decide there are some things they want.. If you don't want them anymore yourself a) give them to your mum or daughter now or b) if they can't take it now, pack the things in a box with their names on and store them somewhere dry.. Eg attic, garage. 3) if you don't want all the pictures on your walls and your mum and sister don't want them (see 1 and 2 above).. Then decide if you would be happy to just photograph them and have the photos of them in an album and then sell/donate or bin the actually pictures. If you love the frames.. You could always keep them and put other pictures in them that you love (either over the top of the original picture or replacing it).. If the frame colour doesn't suit your interior design colour scheme then paint it to suit your style. That way you still have a part of your eg grandmothers picture (which you will remember her by when you look at it) and also you are up-cycling and producing less waste. If you really wanted to keep the pictures, and can't part with them, buy a couple of plastic hang-file storage boxes and store and label the paper and/or canvases flat or rolled in the boxes and store somewhere dry eg attic or garage. Label it "to bin when I have gone" (so that your family know they don't need to keep them! If they look at them and choose to keep something then, that was "their decision" and not due to "obligation " 4) all your photos on the wall, and elsewhere, if you want to keep and display them.. Make a gallery wall.. So they look like 1 big picture and then the other walls are not cluttered.. Or use the same principles as in point 3 outlined above. I have one small gallery wall, all different silver frames on a painted wall different to my white walls. The rest of my photos are all in photo/scrapbook albums... Which I enjoy looking at several times a year with my kids or on my own on a cosy evening. If you still have stuff from your daughter eg memorabilia... Then prep it for her eg. I have 2 big plastic hang-file storage bins.. They have 1 hanging-file per school year from birth to age 20 with photos, cards, crafts etc..in the second one is also a small clip file with all their certificates and school reports (in chronological order). In addition they also have one plastic box each which I put in the bulky stuff eg crafts they made, baby hospital clothes, christening candle etc. Anything that is not flat and can't be put in the hanging file boxes. So when they leave home they each have 3 boxes of their life from birth to 20yrs. Next year I plan to make them printed photo albums for each year (these will go in the bulky stuff box). I have been doing this over the past couple of years evenings and weekends with a drink and film to make it more enjoyable ..now the box system is set up it's easy to put new stuff in the boxes when they have something new they want to keep! I did this with 19 boxes from my childhood/life at home with my parents when I was home with my first child 16 years ago.. It took me a year.. But now I only have 1 small plastic memorabilia ( with the bulky stuff) box and all my flat stuff in chronological scrapbook/photo albums (instead of hanging file boxes, which i have for my kids because it is quicker). If I have the time, when I am through with decluttering and minimalising my house, then I will also photograph everything in these boxes and keep a file... For me as a memory jogger when I am older and just incase they throw their boxes away or loose them later.. Then they will have a reference..😊. I hope these ideas help you some more. The no mess method works for this butterfly! If I get a basket full of things that need to be sorted that basket will be left as soon as I’m tired, lose interest or get distracted! 😮 You’re the best!!!❤️

Hi from New Zealand.😊 I'm definitely a little and often decluttering person. I try to do 15 minutes a day and each week work on a different room. I keep going around each area of my house on a 5 week system so my home is always getting clearer and cleaner 😊🙃😊

This is such a great video! Thanks for showing all these methods! Could you do a video on different planner/planning styles for the different clutterbugs, for example, daily planning, weekly to-do list, theme days, hourly schedule, having a morning, afternoon, and evening routine and/or just using a calendar. Every Sunday my kids (16 and 8) and I do "trash, dishes and laundry"... Is it a total transformation? No. But it gets the basics out of the way. We go through the whole house looking for any trash, any dishes like water bottles,etc and any dirty clothes and quick look at what we don't wear or doesn't fit,etc. It really helps with being able to really SEE everything else.

It kinda depends on the space I’m tackling and if I have room to sort/make piles. So four sort method is my preferred with a side of Marie kondo if I have the room to empty a space completely. For quick declutter sessions in a cabinet or drawer I’ll do the garbage bag or Easter egg.

I love your channel! You have motivated me so much to declutter my mother's house which is pretty much hoarder level cluttered. I moved in with her to help her with her health and when the pandemic happened, I have felt so overwhelmed with the clutter! The no-mess method was a game-changer for me. The key which Cas left out is before you take that one item is, you stop and see what else can go to the other location. In the end, instead of having a big bin of "does not belong" that you have to go through again and figure out where it goes, it's done. All you have to worry about is your garbage/recycling and donations.

I take everything that doesnt belong where it's at and put it in the middle of the room.... this works great for large kids messes!!! I then sit and sort ... and rehome all items that are similar... some things I like multiples of like extra measuring cups scissors ect... as I see to many collect I weed them out get rid of old or broken. I was a hoarder that used the hoarding shows to break my hoarding and cleaning problems.... I find by seeing 15 scissors I feel on letting go of all the old or worn out ones and place extras in strategic common use places so I dont chase scissors any more...

I too use Hoarder shows to help me break my hoarding tendencies! My husband thinks I'm crazy for watching those shows. He just doesn't understand the 'pull' to keep things. But the shows help see why that 'pull' is harmful in the long run.

@@carismaloney1377 I find by watching those shows sitting in the middle of the mess, seeing where that mess is headed if I dont figure it out scares the shyt out of me.... I started my pile method because I found myself just shifting things to proper rooms but still need space to give it a proper home. I have gone as far as taking everything out side to my porch... nothing comes back until it has a home, in theory.. I must admit that in the end of an insomniac cleaning fit there is usually a few " catchall" boxes left but over time thats down to 2 small boxes instead of 10 Ihad to find Organization methods that not only worked for me but my Children as well. But L can proudly say there is zero Clothes horde! for the caily kids Messe(my grand kids are 4 and2 and live with me) I sweep EVERY things into a pile. when they See their toys mixed with trash that I m sweeping up they quickly rescue their toys from impending doom. I maY have raised messy kids but my Grandkids tell me to stay" Calm" cause they made amess but promise to Clean it Up!

@@katiedangelo404 Yes, It scares me too! I'm only 48 and I don't want my family to have all the junk around to go throwing either. My 10yo loves her 'stuff' and I'm trying to teach get not to hoard as well. My 25yo doesn't hoard at all.

@@carismaloney1377 I have the same problem with my own kids. I've had to go in and create organization systems my kids could function with. I can proudly say that items like legos, slime making stuff, LOL dolls and all their little tiny peices are finally being loved not hoarded. 3 back packs full of LOL doll stuff doesnt feel ridiculous when its organized. It took 2 years of going after my kids and reorganizing their stuff often without them after they get frustrated they cant find a cherished toy....after 2 years!!!! It is finally clicking. I have 7 people, 3 adults and 4 kids from 15 to 2 in a 1 bedroom space.... we have been minimalizing little by little as I'm headed to tiny house living!!!! And I've succeeded! The standard of acceptable clean is that of my mom who is not a hoarder. Everyone has privacy, everyone has work space, their cherished items, and controled clothing!!!! My kitchen is still busting at the seams, but my adult daughter needs to let me weed the kitchen down more.... and we are preparing for the possible 2nd outbreak coming later this year.... All in all I can declare that thanks to these shows I broke my hoarding habits and when I find myself slipping and lacking motivation I put on that show and get to cleaning..... hang in there and teach your daughter how to store the toys she loves and over time she will start letting go when maintaining those items isto muchwork.... remind her that letting go makes room to enjoy the things she loves

My favorite is the KonMari method. The main thing is to declutter by category. When you see all of one category together you see just how much you have, then you see if it sparks joy. Then you know what you have and can organize it into the empty space better.

I like the black bag or a cardboard box you cannot see into after deciding something goes. Clear bags and clear bins tempt us to pull items back out lol. I like to do what I'll call the "Good enough" method. Which is decluttering whichever area that is bothering me the most. SO if its an entire room I will need to break it down into which is the messiest smaller area, like a desk top. Or one particular drawer that won't close. And my plan is usually to try to get rid of enough that the one area won't bother me anymore. I am not allowed to transplant the items to a different area in the home unless they clearly were misplaced by accident. That puts limits on how much stuff I keep. I will have a donate bag and a garbage bag handy. As I remove things from the space, I find it saves time to put the keeps on one side and the donate/trash into the bags immediately. I empty the space completely so I don't miss anything. Once the space is completely empty I wipe it down, and then place the keeps back in a visually pleasing way. As I put the keeps back, if there is anything else I decide to donate or trash I do so. I think the 2nd pass over my keeps helps me discard more, especially if I am keeping a lot of duplicates. Kind of like how you decluttered the placemat drawer. I also find just doing one small, tiny section per day keeps me more in the habit of decluttering, and then since I am practicing it more often it is easier to let go. Rather than try to do the whole house in a weekend. I don't like that with Konmari you have to make a huge mess. I think she does that to shock people into really thinking about what they are keeping. But for me the mess is too confusing. Small spaces for me is key!

Four sort method seems most appropriate for me. It is not overwhelming like the Marie Kondo method. I can’t even begin to imagine the job of tackling all the clothes at one time and I certainly cannot imagine myself thanking inanimate objects. Also, sparking joy is not the only reason to keep something. The Easter Egg method might be good for kids as it makes the declutter it a game, but I need something more focused where the end result is an area both decluttered and organized. Garbage and no mess methods do have merits, but I still think the four sort method is the winner. It is nice to see different approaches. In the end, we need to find the best (for us) and customize our decluttering and organization. Thank you for a great video.

After watching this last night before bed I had dreams of making my bed all night long. This morning I hopped up n made my bed. All because of your inspiration guide here. 4 yrs ago moved and it’s was a big downsize so I was not making my bed cuz it didn’t matter, too much stuff to keep it clean! Thanks for all the laughter n wonderful hints to get motivated again, btw we’ve been married for 42 yrs! I’ve gone thru all the phases of cleaning- before kids , during n empty nest! Yep my kids think I’m lazy now but wait till the see my bed made!!!

I use all the methods. It depends on the day. I personally are very visual. I like dark colored baskets that are labeled. I like like things to go together but I am in a tiny space that I share with other people. Staying organized is a real challenge.

I love this and all your videos! I usually use the "four sort" method, only I like to do a "no mess" version of it so I'm not left with a box to take around at the end. I have a small house, though. Decision making is the hard part for me!

All worth trying depending on how much time I have. The no mess method works for shorter time periods for me - otherwise I get frustrated. I do the Easter egg hunt regularly. If I have donations ready to go, I’ll poke around drawers, closets to see what I can quickly cull.

Funny...after just about 30 years of marriage one of my go to methods has been the Easter Hunt method..Not that I knew it was called that,,but I'll get a feeling that I WANT TO DECLUTTER SOMETHING and away I go.....Hubby doesn't see the sense to that and gets concerned that I'll grab one of his things. Well..respecting his concern, .most of what I collect, I KNOW he'll NEVER notice. Totally enjoy your channel and look forward to more. I did catch the television series you started and hope to see more of that in the future too.

I like the Kon Mari and the fifth method, but my absolutely favorite what would be the sixth method. I call it the Major Move Method. We recently moved from the US back to Canada and the movers greatly limited us on how much we could bring. It was a major declutter. Now that I am in my new home, my inner cricket can finally start form scatch with the organization and make my home super functional.

Your four categories got me motivated to do some big jobs this summer (I'm a teacher off for a couple of months), and I use it with Dana White's idea of walking each item to where it belongs when I get to a "does not belong" item. If I see a few items I can relocate at the same time, I do so, but I do a lot of walking. I'm too sedentary, so what looked inefficient has actually helped me move more. The idea of not making a mess allows me to stay withing the invisible "containers" of my time and energy and leave even unfinished areas of my home better than before I started. But your four categories and your enthusiasm got me off of my sofa, and the changes are already amazing, just like you. Thanks for keeping it real and honest! After I finish decluttering years of stuff, I'm going to butterfly organize this place!! Loved your book that helped me find my style -- game changer and guilt killer! P.S. "If it isn't a hard yes, than it is a no," and "Would I buy it again?" are two other tools I learned from you that are helping me move through this process soooooo much more quickly.

Loved this video. I was attempting to declutter my work room and thought that the only way was the Con Mary and I was overwhelmed by the thought of the huge mess it was going to make, before getting better. Usually I would have used the No Mess method, tackling each shelve and putting the stuff in its right place, but I felt it was wrong and you have given me the assurance that that was also a good method. And it is funny to see, from the comments below, that I am not the only one... I will just have to return to the place I am tackling and not get lost on the way... Thank you so much! Your videos are so motivational that it is a pleasure to do stuff “in your virtual” company!

I do a variation of the no mess method and yours. I’m okay with piling a little bit of stuff up to take to other rooms, but I don’t let the pile get very big. It does discourage me to get done decluttering something like a closet, only to turn around and realize that I now have a box full of stuff to go find a home for. I don’t get distracted if I’m just putting away a small pile.

Lots of people in the comments like the no-mess method, & it sounds very logical but sadly it's not for me....I get too easily distracted. If I try that I wind up halfway through with several different projects, but none of them complete. I have to concentrate on one area at a time & not physically leave that area until I'm done lol. Then I can walk the bins & bags around & put things in their home or in the trash, or in the cardboard donate box I keep in the garage. I like that she doesn't say one method is better or worse than another method. Everybody has different ways that work best for them, but we're all trying for the same goal--a clutter-free, stress-free, clean home that leaves us spare time to watch ClutterBug videos!

A quick look at the comments section proves what a good idea it was to present several methods. I have been listening to Decluttering at the Speed of Life by Dana K. White on Audible, and recommend it every chance I get. I work full time at a stressful job, and don’t have very much energy when I get home. I have been using her method, just decluttering for 15 minutes a night, and it has been a total game changer! No mess to clean up after that day’s decluttering session! It’s making a huge difference in my home.

Actually the konmari method goes by category so you have to put out everything in that category everywhere in the house, not only in a cabinet or a room

One aid that helps you is your sectioned basket. You assign a room to each section. This allows you to store items to take to different rooms when you finish the current room. WITHOUT a mess.

I think I do, too. Years ago, before I had any systems at all in place, I really used the Easter egg method and that always felt so fulfilling and could take only 5 minutes and I would put things straight into my car and take it to Goodwill and that was easy and fun and it would motivate me to do the same thing a few days later. Anything more complicated than that was too much when I didn't have systems. I think because there were things to decide in every single category, but each category also had some obvious things that I didn't have to think about and getting rid of those built the muscles for the other methods.

I'm right there with ya. I'm going to be 40 soon and I know eventually my family home will be mine. Right now my home and will always be my grandparents house. When I moved home to help my mom, there us still ALL my grandparents stuff. I've decided that things gotta go so I can fully cherish my home. That thought helps me when I get overwhelmed, to know that someday I'll have put my touch and I know they'd be proud of me. The part I have to take one day at a time is that I have to learn to let go of the past the stuff, their stuff is only important to me because it was my grandparents. I hope you and I get through this.

The no mess method is a good tip.....it also takes up a lot of time. I recently used the put away when I'm done method and it saved me so much time and walking.

My older daughter went ballistic when I did a VERY gentle trash therapy on her room. Apparently some of those gum wrappers were sentimental. She just finished college and moved to a different state...it’s probably safe to try cleaning in there again. LOL!

Husband didn't have a chance to keep any of his stuff because of that. Unless your daughter packed everything away, take caution lol, this stuff is detrimental to relationships :(

The method I use depends on the size of the space, the amount of stuff in that space, and my mood. Usually begin with a garbage bag, then move on to no mess or sort. If I'm really sick of the clutter, no mess is worth the walking cuz then it's done! Loved this video. Thanks for posting.

The best method for me is a modification of number 5. I use totes instead of piles (because with young kids and a puppy, I can easily close the lid quickly if need be). My totes are labeled as Donate, Sell, Maybe, Store (Away), Put Away.. and anything that's trash goes in a trash bag. It makes it helpful for coming back to if I have to step away or stop for the day and knowing what each tote is to deal with accordingly.

If I take something into another room, I'll see something that goes in a third room, in the third room, I'll see something that goes into a fourth room, etc. At the end of the day, I've achieved nothing. I do best using the piles.

I’ve wondered though - is anything wrong with Decluttering in one spot then when you take things to another spot you’re Decluttering a little there. Seems like something we beat ourselves up about but maybe keeping it varied can help with motivation. Just wondering if anyone else thinks like this.

As someone who also has ADHD, all I can say is "Nope" - if you back into another vehicle that's also backing up, it is half your fault because you weren't looking to see if there was another vehicle (same goes for the other driver). I've been a bystander to that exact thing, and each of the drivers is half to blame because when backing up you have to be aware of everything around you, including checking every single applicable blind spot multiple times as you go through the maneuver, just to make sure. So you're both at fault, and no, it doesn't cancel out. It's an instance where treating it with a ladybug/butterfly approach epically fails - gotta stay focused on the thing you're currently doing and pay attention to the details, because you can't move on to something else before you've finished with the first thing.

Oh my goodness, you just having me dying over here!! When I see people do the Kon Marie method they do it so calm and peaceful. Girl, you: "Do you spark joy? NO!" aggressively throws it to the wayside. Hahaha! Bottom lined it. I love it!
