Eating sugar and sweets of any kind. 5. Eating or drinking anything stored in plastic that has been sitting at room temperature.
This is was awesome Dr. Berry. I suspected that my vegetarian diet of 19 years contributed to my then low T issues. I switched to a Keto lifestyle in June and not long afterwards experienced a noticeable difference. Sadly, not one medical doctor gave me useful guidance by telling me that perhaps I was sabotaging my health with my dietary lifestyle. Thanks for the confirmation. 😀
@@KenDBerryMD trust me Doc I am!!! I'm absolutely amazed @ how good my skin is looking. After over 30 year's of dealing with psoriasis. Again thank you so much!!!
@@Emkfry8020 I started taking vitimans D3 & K2 along w L-glutamine cut out milk any type of junk food. I know only drink out of glass mason jars. Try to not use plastic at all. Working on making a channel dedicated to my psoriasis journey but honestly in prob less than a month I will be clear. My fingers haven't looked this good since I was on Humaira. And because of side effects I had to stop. Psoriasis came back worse than EVER BEFORE!!! Places I never had it before. My elbows went from a dime sized spot to a softball sized spot. Never had it on my legs before. Just a small tiny spot on both knees. After Humaira my legs looked like I had chicken pox or poison ivy. Now the patches are changing into my skin color & slowly going away. My skin is soft & smooth. Please Don't give up. My dermatologist said psoriasis on the hands is the hardest to clear up. Well, my fingertips now are getting clear in spots. I look @ my hands & you can see it's healing. Please stick w it. Sending my thoughts and prayers for you!!! God Bless & I'm so grateful for the Doc's info. I'm sure you understand how self conscious I am about my hands & elbows. My whole life I've been looked at a weird way because of psoriasis. Hated absolutely hated to get my haircut. Teased as a kid to the point I hated going to school or doing anything social. I can't explain how amazed I am that it's slowly going away. @@evantheterrible7448 Thanks for your helpful advice!! You have had a much more dramatic problem than I, but it's not fun having hands that hurt and you can't do a lot of things. I will keep plugging away at this!
Dr Berry, I'm impressed at how you show the relationship between our diet and how it affects our physical health, and you break it down so easily that even a child can understand, not only in this video but in all of your videos. Thank you for caring, Doctor☺️God bless you and your family.
I find this all a bit confusing now as a number of high profile Carnivore proponents (low carb) have shown to have very low Free testosterone available. I tried it for about 6 months & my sex drive tanked as did my energy. I also now see that some of these proponents are now adding back in some carbs in the form of honey or sweet potato etc. However this is something you recommend to avoid. No wonder we're all confused about nutrition !
That' always bothered me about Kcups as well. Up here in Canada you can buy some K-cup knock-offs that only have a filter pouch instead of a solid plastic.
Sure miss Ya Doctor! Wish The clinic hadn't burned down. Now You're in Nashville I guess. Well Thanks to You I have just gone over 1 year smoke free! Unfortunately When I quit I also quit My Keto/ Paleo diet. I had lost 85 lbs and was feeling great ( Thanks to YOU ). I need to get back on It now That The hard part of quitting smoking is behind Me. Everyone This Doctor IS The real deal! Good luck in Your future projects Doctor! We miss You Here in Benton County!
I sent this out to several men I care about. Also advised them to make tea from nettle root to help stabilize testosterone levels by blocking an enzyme that breaks it down. Thanks to Dr. Berry for all the good work and caring and sharing.
PAY ATTENTION. This is the real deal. I manifested this video, because for 3 weeks straight I’ve been anxious and intrigued about testosterone and how to raise it naturally. Dr. Berry, I want a consultation with you. You’re the man!
I didnt know about grains. When I cut out eating oatmeal in the morning my stomach is not bloated. I ate it to lower cholesterol but not missing the bloated stomach and loose stools the next day.
I'm a PT and patients ask me all the time about keto / low carb. I tell them all the success I had 13 years ago when I was fat, 100 lb heavier 18 year old in high school and discovered low carb. I've been doing keto / low carb since and kept it all off
Good stuff. Thanks Dr. Berry. I’ve changed my order now when I go through Dunkin Donuts, I get a medium coffee, 3 creams no sweetener, and tell them to put it in a paper cup.
Everything we eat have been stored in plastic. Aluminum cans are lined with plastic. Paper beverage cartons are also lined with plastic and so is waxed paper. Hard cheeses, for example parmesan cheese is actually a type of plastic, polymers of amino acid, and so is hard gelatine.
I tried that, but it failed. My testosterone increased when I started eating lots of potatoes and white rice. Carbs are way more important than fats when it comes to raising testosterone.
@@totallyraw1313 True, you can raise testosterone with carbs. But the problem is, that also the testosterone-resistens rises in many people - leading to higher values but worse/same "effective testosterone". And I don't think that carbs are better for that purpose. But I accept your trial. Can you give me more data about that ?
@@SchmittsPeter I tried the carnivore diet for 9 weeks and my total testosterone fell to just 8nmol/L. After adding back carbs, it jumped up to 17nmol/L and I felt so much better. I felt really terrible on the carnivore diet. No libido whatsoever and much more post exercise muscle soreness, probably due too low insulin, as well as testosterone.
@@totallyraw1313 : Thanks for the answer ! My first guess would be, that your calories/fat was too low, but I don't know for shure. For me it is the opposite : I have problems digesting carbs and get total wrecked when I have them.
Just do the following (it automatically includes all 5 as well) : Stop eating so much, and so often. More specifically, start training yourself with intermittent fasting, initially 12 : 12. then 16 : 8 (= 16 h no eating) until you get to OMAD (one meal a day). Wen you eat, eat 100 gram meat & 400 grams cruciferous vegetables (raw weight). Once you're there, start doing 2 day fasts - i.e just skip that one daily meal (just drink water with electrolytes (himalayan salts & potasium powder) to avoid fatigue) - you won't believe how that will reset your whole hormonal system, including testosterone. I'm in my fifties, was overweight when I started doing it, and I can absolutely testify to this - in fact, I was shocked at the extent my T count increased (I noticed it before I even got it tested).
I just started carnivore, it is not easy for me, I used to eat lots of bread and pizza. I felt I had to do something, Right now I am 110 kg, let´s see where I can get in two or three months. Thank you for your videos.
Dr Berry, great video. A couple of questions if I may. Firstly, could this alone explain the loss of fertility we've seen in Western society? Secondly, what negative effects does low testosterone in women cause?
Maybe TMI, but I've been on Keto for 5 weeks now (I'm 62). This weekend after having "spent some time" with my wife, she looked at me smiling and asked if I'd been taking Viagra. :-) Nope, Keto!
The plastic hint I knew about in 1989 when I worked in the plastic industry and the resin manufacturers recommended never eating food out of a heated container. The resin Chemist said there is enough heat at the food barrier to the plastic to shed plastic molecules into the food. I would be happy to raise my natural testosterone so I did not have as much injected testosterone.
Meat consumption has been lowering for over 40 years, because guidlelines and other advertising, lowering testosterone in boys and men dropping for over 40 years. Coincidence? Just my, and many others hypothesis... Didn't know the sugar thing for T though.
his “grains” recommendation is dubious at best. Whole grains are good for your health and keeping you full longer, which in turn can help with fasting and can help you lose visceral fat, which is one of the most important factors (by avoiding snacking etc.).
What video you talked about eczema that you said dairy was bad to stop eating certain foods to help stop the increase of the body making so much of it or how the body is confused that is why we have it !
I did search his video first thing I done couldn't find it for maybe he has it on another name that why I asked for I trouble finding it , I am parshly blind and working with medications to slow it down !
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Especially for your comments on soy products. I first heard of this from my own family physician about 12 years ago....When I try to tell other people this they look at me like I'm nuts...So thank you !!!!
When I was in Japan they were laughing about all the Soy we eat over here. They told me that they eat it fermented and then just a bit. What I saw for example was a big stir fry with chunks of beef or Chicken in it. So more veggies but still meat. Over here the Vegetarians eschew all meat.
@@vinnnnnny12345 - For me I'm not totally sure. Im 52 yrs old and eat a lot of meat...VA docs say mine is fine. Other than that I take a multi vitamin is all.
What about polypropylene and polyethylene? These plastics contain no estrogen like or estrogen mimicking chemicals. Estrogen requires molecular structures (carbon rings and benzene like structures) that cannot be spontaneously created from either of those polymers. Certainly not at 100 degrees C or less. Polystyrene and PEP, yeah I can see that. But not the stuff Tupperware or Rubbermaid are made of. Not a chance.
Okay, I am going to start on this. But I’m not going to do the fasting part of this. I apparently have a fast metabolism and if I don’t eat 5 to 6 small but healthy meals per day I will drop weight and lose muscle mass and strength quickly. I have always been athletically built and fit. I just want to stay that way. Thanks for the info and the video!
Love it when a new video comes out! I've also read that eating flaxseeds is bad for testosterone because it increases cortisol. Is there any truth to that? Supposedly the lignans are the culprit but flax is keto. Just a bit confused on that. Thanks for this one Dr. Berry.
Flax is technically keto but waaaay higher in phytoestrogens than soy. Also the omega 3s in flax are ALA form. The body can only convert up to 3% of that into a usable form so it’s useless in that respect. You’re better off looking for a minimally processed cod liver oil or some other animal form.
Well after reading your comment again and the others, I'm throwing out the rest of the bag, even though it has not much left. I had not taken in hardly any fiber at all this week so Friday I decided to mix about 4 tablespoons with Stevia, water, and butter. I've done it before but I'll fiber from now on with just the keto vegetables and tree nuts. Thanks to all who responded.
What about drinking fluoridated water? Americas fluoridation program started rolling out in the late 40s and T levels have been on a decline ever since. There are numerous studies showing correlation between fluoride ingestion and T level decline.
Eliminate all sugar and all grains? So no fruit at all? No grains as means of adding fiber to my diet? I cook 100% at home (unless I am traveling of course), and almost never use my microwave to cook, but it is REALLY difficult to prepare 100% of your meals, eat a variety of foods to prevent boredom, and avoid fruit and grains. Eating healthy is starting to feel stressful.
I started fasting OMAD say 20/4 several months ago following a 4 day fast. Lost a total of 28 lbs, 201 down to 173, 6ft, 1. Stopped daily pizza lunch and was diet soda junkie did a quart or more a day, no grains, pasta or rice. Now at OMAD, fish & shellfish every day, a can of sardines in oil every 2nd day , fruit and 1/2 avocado every day. Beef liver 2nd day, 2-3 whole eggs a day, nuts every day, plenty of greens, tomatoes, etc. Speaking of testosterone, I’ve typically been at the lower end of normal range when tested. For the men out there, I noticed erection quality has improved, I’d say I was 90%, now solid iron 😁 and lasts. Age 61 😲. Didn’t think I’d ever see that again (w/o Cialis). Don’t know exactly what did it, but one of many unexpected benefits of fasting and diet change, including running the fastest 5 mile race ever. 😁😎😁
I've been eating all of my meals from a meal prep company that sends the meals in a plastic container that I store in the refrigerator then I heat them up in the microwave before eating. Should I be heating the meals up on a plate rather than in the plastic container? Thanks
To generally actually make a tangible difference, most men are not going to notice anything off of a small change even if everything works perfectly. 99% of all the men that look amazing selling testosterone boosting supplements, methods etc are using testosterone injections. That's reality. That and they usually have good genetics to begin with. They even have studies showing that small changes in testosterone levels did absolutely nothing for muscle growth and they had to increase the testosterone levels to supraphysiological levels to actually cause additional muscle growth by additional testosterone alone.
Women also produce testosterone/androgen. Once we pass menopause, those hormones tend to drop. Many doctors say this isn't important but I've heard you say that isn't true. Can these steps help menopausal women normalize our testosterone and androgen levels?
I just got done with a 36 hr fast, I felt hungry for a little in the beginning, but after that I felt fine. Try alternating fasting and you'll lose wight.
So what am I supposed to eat??? I’m so hungry all the time! I workout 6/7 days a week! I’m up from 5 in the morning every day, i watch my diet so much, I don’t eat chicken or red meat out of choice but it’s so hard trying to figure out what to have for breakfast or lunch without carbs??!!
Beer is the only healthy product that can be made from grain. Like in fermented foods, the fermentation process makes the grain far healthier, the yeast convert simple sugars to alcohol, and leave the complex carbs. Also, hops are an amazing plant, closest relative of cannabis. Amazing polyphenols and many other compounds. Two beers a day, at dinner or golf, and two keto meals a day. Acidic like apple cider (also a product of fermentation). Works wonders for me. Most of my carbs from beer. Have maintained my new body for a year now. Beer is home brewed, bottled or kegged, no plastic. Mega swill beer, Budmilloors, is the problem. That is designed to be pounded all day. Not taste, no hops, all sorts of additives, no satisfaction.
I'm 6'0" and 155 lbs I don't want to lose anymore weight from fasting. Mentally, I feel great when in a fasted state and lifting weights fasted gives me better energy than pre-workout supplements
I carry water around a lot; I spend most of my days working, driving, walking or sailing out of reach of a water supply. I've always used a cycling type plastic water bottle or something similar that I refill when I get the opportunity. What should I use instead?
Soy is the worst thing ever. I'm not worried about brown rice at all. The only grain I eat is brown rice. I got rid of everything else on the Doc's list many years ago.👍 I'm glad my dark chocolate and almond butter ain't on the list.😁
Since bottled water is shipped unrefrigerated, and there are plastic pipes where the water can be quite warm, how can we filter the water or possibly treat the water to get rid of the plastic? Thanks
Unfortunately I don't think we can. Over time it breaks down so small you can't see it. Only w a light or test. Plastic is in everything & last forever.
Some water filters can. The kind that boil the water then go through a carbon filter. Also, you can run your water for a few seconds in summer to get rid of the warm water in the pipes and get to the cold stuff. I use this water in the garden.
Greetings, Dr. Berry! I was wondering, if we cannot eat all the grains you mentioned in the video, what are we supposed to eat then? What can we eat instead of grains? Thank you for your time.
Meat!! Hopefully you’ve gotten an answer by now. I know this comment was a couple of years ago, but I’ve increasing my fats and proteins over the past couple of months and have seen health benefits. Hopefully you’ve been able to progress with Dr Berry from here. A keto or meat based diet is what he strongly recommends now.
Russell Robinson it’s not the worst thing. As we age cholesterol does go up naturally as a protective mechanism. Eating a lot of cholesterol helps keep the ratio in check. When small dense LDL is very high that is a symptom of a bigger issue. Lowering cholesterol with statins won’t do anything for the actual cause. Check out Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride’s talks on cholesterol. Also the guy that wrote Cholesterol Code. I forget his name but he has devoted a lot of his career to studying cholesterol. It is vital to repairing and building the body!
Check out any of Dave Feldman's videos on cholesterol for some great insight on why high cholesterol is not the boogeyman we've been taught to fear. His discussion of studies on cholesterol and mortality are especially interesting, observing in one instance that the only group of men living to be centenarians were those who had HIGH cholesterol...
I just had a realisation about my kettle (damn, never thought I'd say that). There's a part of it on the inside near the bottom that looks plastic. I'm not sure what it's for, but I think it's a minimum indicator. I'm going to look into zero plastic kettles as my current kettle may well have been leaching from the plastic all this time!!! Thanks! :D
Actually the estrogen effect of soy is eliminated in soy sauce or tamari because of the fermentation Soy sauce has wheat though so not good if you're wheat sensitive. Also tempeh is ok. Sourdough bread and sprouted breads I believe have less glycemic effect than regular bread.
Correct and, to be truthful, you would have to eat an absolute mountain of soy on a daily basis for it to affect estrogen levels. Jerry Brainum has talked about this in one of his videos.
No probs for me... the old prostate is now a prune after some really hefty radiation...I’m just a real softy now! But, I love eating a low carb diet... Thanks for all the solid info.

All of this is fine and good, but some ppl cannot make significant enough increases in testosterone without medication. I think medication is not the first answer, but certainly there are men who will tell you the cost is worth it.
Hi Dr. Berry! ... would you do a video on phthalates/xeno-estrogens, in the linings of canned and other food containers-with suggestions for better choices? And remember that age old dictum: SHUT UP AND EAT YOUR GREENS! (SHUEYG). Sartorious, done.
What can one do if you can't drink tap water and you can't drink out of plastic bottles, and you don't have a home where you can filter the water, how or where can you get good water
I've found soy is generally just unappetizing. There are some beef patties with soy listed as an ingredient. They seem ok to me. They're not as good as a steak, but as a food they seem palatable. Like the cheapest beef patties at Walmart list beef' beef hearts soy. I can't mix them in with real beef because they will make the beef taste bad. But by themselves they're like salsbury steak or something. Is there something different about the way that soy is processed? I know I can't rock with soybean oil or edamame or straight soy anything. It's just bad..
Any tips for construction workers who work in the sun and have to drink over a gallon of water a day. We have to drink water from plastic. All day everyday. Working asphalt a dozen pint sized plastic bottles is typical. The big gatorade coolers are plastic. Hard to get a dozen glass bottles on a paver for each worker just by logistics. I'm guessing there's a way I'm not thinking of. I have switched to drinking out of metal or glass at home.
Take a giant melon and take a small bit out of it until you finish it. But realistically, your balls probably won't fall off from drinking some bottled water here and there. Just make sure you can minimize it
I would like to go no plastic but so far find it impossible. I bring my meals to work and no glass is allowed. I need containers that seal tight and can't spill when bounced around. What can I use?
@@ryanjacob3701 Yes I'm looking at stainless and there are stainless meal and sandwich containers. A bit pricey so I'm shopping around. Problem is I also need something I can also put in a microwave for some meals.
