Can i use this on my Generic b&q yellow Patio. 2 Change it different color. As the patio one only comes in 5 litres.

This is a 'thicker' formulation Sean, which is not suitable for Concrete Patio Slabs. If you need 25L we would recommend buying the - Concrete ColourSeal- see www.smartseal.co.uk/sealers/concrete-sealer/ Regards, Josh@Smartseal

Is it essential to use clear sealer after? we dont want it shiny after. just want it grey

The clear sealer puts a 'protective skin' over the coloured sealer Ken, so it is important. If you use the 'matt' sealer we offer, any shine will only be short lived. Hope that helps. Regards, Rick@Smartseal

Hello. Can I apply the paint on stone veneer? And also how long does the paint takes to fade ?

The coloured sealer is UV resistant and will take years to fade, dependent on level of exposure to the elements and wear & tear (if applied on a drive or patio) Please send pictures of what you are trying to colour and seal to contactus@smartseal.co.uk and we will try to provide more specific advice. the house I purchased has a brick edging along my driveway but they used two slightly different color bricks. will this product even out the color? I really do not want to paint, its a dark grey brick now. thanks

Hi Bob, our product should effectively get the result your looking for in the scenario you've described. But just to be sure, you can try a sample to test the effectiveness of the product before you buy. It cannot be used over a polyurethane or water based sealer Birdy, the different types of sealer would not be compatible. Regards, George@Smartseal Support

It will just not 'adhere' or 'melt' into the previously applied sealer, Birdy. Approx 5 years after the previous sealer has been applied, it is then work trying a sample. The previously applied sealer will then probably have worn away sufficiently for something else to be applied. Regards, George@Smartseal

@@satbilla9291 If the pavers look nice when they are clean and wet Sat? only clear sealer is required. Clear sealer will leave the pavers looking 'damp' all the time, naturally enhancing their colour. Regards, Rick@Smartseal

Can you tell me whether sealing the surface and hardening the sand affects the permeability of the driveway? Where I live is prone to flooding so it's important that water can soak away.

Hello Andy, when the block paving and the sand get wet, they quickly become impermeable. The effect of sealing the blocks and sand is hardly going to change this. The soaking away of water on any driveway is determined by the 'falls' being set out correctly when the driveway is laid and adequate drainage being put in place. Hope that helps, Nigel@Smartseal

@@SmartsealUk Nonsense. Block paving is permeable and to what degree is determined by a number of factors including the subbase composition. Today we are all required to achieve SUDS drainage and the permeability of block paving assists that. When designing drainage for block paving the permeability of the surface is taken into account and a block paving scheme will require less drainage capacity than a RC paving scheme that would be considered to be 100% impermeable.

Hi - If I was to colour my driveway a grey colour, is there a grey sand that would be used? Not sure I fancy the idea of a yellow sand in the joints of grey blocks.

If you do not want to define the sanded joints. Simply apply a 2nd coat of coloured sealer, rather than clear. Hope that helps. Alex@Smartseal

My block paving driveway was treated with dry kiln sand - but nothing else. Within a fortnight, weeds started taking root in the sand itself. I was very disappointed. Is it strictly necessary to use the dry kiln sand; or is there an alternative solution? Also, would I have to completely pressure-wash away the existing dry kiln sand (with the weed roots) before re-applying your product? Or what would you recommend please?

Hello Chris, Kiln dried sand is the only option for block paving with standard narrow joints. There is available 'polymeric' jointing sand, that will harden the sand to some degree once swept in to the joints. I have not used the product myself, so cannot comment on how effective it is. Certainly to get the full benefits of the sealer, the best thing to do is kill off the weeds, clear the joints of the 'dirty sand' re-sand with new kiln dried sand and apply sealer. That correct, after applying, you are relying on the paving being laid correctly, with adequate falls to allow excess water to drain off. Hope that helps. George@Smartseal

I stupidly bought polished white Indian sandstone for a 20sqm patio. The slabs are so porous, within hours of being laid they started to discolour. Now they look dreadful, old, and discoloured (some green and brown) after only being laid last year you would think they’re decades old - not the look I was going for at all after spending so much to get it done. I’m so disappointed and saddened. Anything would look better than they do now. Would this product work to stain the slabs to grey, thereby hiding some of their hideousness? I’ve looked into painting them but that would just leave me with a whole new set of problems - please help :(

Hello Jan, sorry to hear about this. We do have sealing products that should work for you (I would suggest trying a sample 1st) Our product Pato Colourseal (available in 4 colours) is formulated with old concrete patio slabs in mind, but should work fine on Sandstone. Hi, thanks for your question, applied correctly, 'block magic' will not peel off. The product is not a paint, it is a blended coloured sealer formulated to soak into and bond to the pavers. This means it will not 'sit on top' like a paint. Hope that helps! regards Smartseal Support

The maintenance with block paving is a nuisance and the weeds are also. When it rains the sand washes out and if it’s a sloping drive, like mine, it makes a terrible mess in the road and the neighbours complain. I wouldn’t have another one.
