Commands to Delete Folder or File That Can't Delete
cd /d C:\Users\YourUserName\Folder-or-File-Location Press Enter
Find Location : Right Click on the folder or file and then Click on properties then, go to general tab, over-there you can see the location, Just copy after your username
dir /X press Enter
rmdir /q /s YourFileShortName press enter
Done ! Your File or Folder Will Delete After Run Above Commands in Command Prompt .

You are a lifesaver. I have been staring at this empty folder on my Desktop for almost 2 years. I have Windows 10 Pro and it worked great. The only difference from the video is when I right clicked on the short name, it put it in the Command Prompt automatically. File is gone and my skin doesn't crawl anymore.

It's not working for me. It says that the directory name is invalid or the system cannot find the file specified Edit: it disappeared from my downloads area but the application didn't say anything. At least it worked. Thank you so much

Spent almost a day trying to delete an unavailable directory. Tried just about everything. This worked, however the video is slightly incorrect at one point: the command is rmdir /q /s (short directory name) not rmdir /q s/

i was stuck with a folder in desktop for almost 2 years i was convinced that reinstalling the os was the only way but surely one last try and this video worked like magic (if anyone does not get the solution remember the command is case sensitive so follow this procedure strictly)

It must be because the folder must have a space at the end. Use this command while running cmd as admin. Remember to use the full path. *rd /s "\\?\D:\bad\folder\path "*

it works (remember all letters are sensitive to capital and small letters so follow the process strictly)

thx! a few months ago i decided to create a folder with the name "..." with the directions from a video. now i didnt want to have it anymore but shoving it in the recycling bin would make the computer think i tried to recycle the entire C:/ drive, and cmd wouldnt do anything when i tried to delete it as a directory with the rmdir command.

Win-10. I have a folder in c drive in windows temp folder which refuses to delete. I tried cd /d C:\Windows\Temp\{98FED9CB-719B-445D-BBE6-664A01C35807} and it returned "Access is denied". nothing in windows is able to delete it because of access denied. i am in admin mode.
