Olivia, what needs to happen is a re-definition of what's most important to you, and as much as possible clear boundaries around what you can and can't offer. Once this is clear you can look for a relationship that is a fit to your lifestyle with clear definitions and boundaries from the start.
There is no need to be mean that will only get you in and out of toxic relationships. Asserting yourself doesn't typically require being mean except for life or death situations.
What if you are in love with your life and all you attract are men who aren't in love with theirs and want you to give up on all that you worked hard for? I love being in my femininity yet I seem to get men wanting me to be more masculine and the bread winner? Its a real turn off!
Sounds like they are trying to date their Mom and have you take care of them while they stay home playing video games or whatever and you go to work. That would be a turn off! There are dating sites for successful women to meet successful men or you can go to places where happier successful men are more likely to be such as a Starbucks working on something, country club, singles travel club, swanky hotel lounge where someone might be on a business trip, golf course, a class, airport lounge, religious or spiritual or new age group or activity or festival, MeetUp group enjoying a volunteer group activity (people are happier who think outside themselves), a shared interest/ hobby or singles group activity, MENSA meeting as a guest or networking MeetUp group. There are plenty of places to meet quality people. You may even meet someone by unsolicited referral from someone you know unexpectedly. You may even meet him at the counter at the grocery store picking out something for the next cookout asking for your advice. Never know.
