God, Kevin, you’re so intelligent and eloquent. I’ve been a full time tennis pro since 1987, I’ve heard the greats, from Van Der Meer to Bollitieri, in symposiums and workshops, but you, my friend, you are among the top in my book, the best of the best. Your instruction is OBJECTIVE, you teach tennis, not about tennis, that’s what I like about you! You’re an immerser not a lecturer!l Love your instruction!

Probably the best teacher (for me) that I've found on RU-vid. First teacher that has got me feeling the power of the kinetic chain. A lot of people can explain the concept but these videos teach one how to find it and use it. I'm using my legs and torso in new ways on my ground strokes. Huge thank you from this beginner .

Probably the best explanation of releasing the racket into the ball that I have heard on youtube. This is where the effortless power comes from. The release comes from the momentum of the racket and a loose wrist. Not from a wristy windscreen wiper action. Awesome stuff. Thanks Kevin.

genius. Thank you for the top spin tip. Many coach tell me “ why do You hit the ball flat” ,” whip it”, “ snap it”, “ low to high” which I have no idea. You made it so easy to understand. Thankssss

14:38 Such a good explanation on the correct reason why the "brushing" happens - it is a reaction of your arm against the way that you prepared it before hitting the ball, rather than a forced, voluntary movement. Great tip

Appreciate if anyone could explain this: For me it is not very clear what is meant by continuing with the racket "outside of the ball" after hitting it. According to him it is basically "relaxing". Is it the same concept where some coaches say: you have to have a mental image that you are pushing a bit through the ball and then in the end you imagine that you must go "over the ball"? Over the ball means you end up your racket in a way that it touches the top of the ball. Of course it is just a mental image that helps you set up things right, the actual moment of touching the ball is quite brief. Despite my confusion on this particular part, I found the video great!

Great video very clear and makes total sense also like the fact that it goes back to basics which is always a good place to go back to if one is struggling on a shot. I will practice your drills as currently not able to play much due to pulled muscle in my ribs. Thanks very good lesson also I can apply same principles to my one handed backhand.

Tanks Kevin Garlington. I am just searching the techniques to improve my forehand with more power. And I find this video. The 5 techniques are 1.Body or unit turn , 2.Loading (bend the knee), 3.Contact ball at the straight elbow, 4. Follow through the racket , 5. Make more top spin, aren't it?

Hey Kevin I have to agree with everyone else...your insights and explanations are great! I do have a question regarding the "shoulder stretch" at the 14min mark. I cannot work out how that stretch makes the racquet bounce?

how do you brush the racket up when you want to hit the shot with more control? not doing it as said in the video with slower rotation? or you grasp the racket more tight and do it yourself?

Nr. 1 you are not rotating enough. by the end of the follow-through, your hips and your shoulders should be on the other side of your hitting side, no matter if it is a forehand or backhand. loading by stepping backwards is not the only way how to load. you can step sidewise or even forwards and still have a great roration if you know how to use your hips. but yeah, a wide and low stance is a must. Nr. 3. contact point - all good except, you should be extending your contact point as if you are hitting 2 more balls in front of you. it is connected with the body transfer, but maybe later on this. ah, there you go Nr. 4 - extension. all good. Nr 5. is not so much about your racket path, it is more about where you hit the ball, what part of the ball you hit. if you follow the first 4 steps properly and you are hitting the ball on its "chin", you will create a topspin. no matter what you do, if you are hitting the ball on its forehead or its hair, there will be no topspin or it will land in the net. for the beginners - all good.
