When should you contact the ball for groundstrokes? At the top of the bounce (apex), before the top of the bounce (ball is rising), or after the top of bounce on the way down (ball is falling)?

Hi I am an ex-tennis player n now enjoy PickleB very much. I want you to help update us. Ball-call out and In creates many conflicts because of different background, tennis players like me is common sense to call IN once ball touch on any part of line. But players esp engineering background argue such as circumference of ball looks cover but the center not, or 50%of ball not touch, Pkb not compressed like tennis ball .....brabra I think 2021 Rule has changed to follow tennis rule. No more complicated arguement for senior's eyes. Visible space between ball n line Also good sportsmanship to praise skillful play. Please update 2021 new rule. Cisco Setchan Singapore
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
Yes, line calls are a common point of contention. If you're not sure, it's in. You can't be sure if you didn't see a space so...
@scottgarrison8301

I don’t always agree with the C motion. Bring a tennis coach, you see a lot of people late because of the height of the C. Then they never get the racquet/paddle under the ball which causes them to lose and top spin control. Beginners need to understand to not take the C back so high
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
True, contact in front and dropping the paddle head below the ball are high priority. Then you can work on the C once those get locked in.

Hi Nicole, I have gone away from hitting a topspin forehand in doubles. The reason being I find it much harder to hit a low ball than a ball closer to waist level. So I hit a slice forehand ... Trying for slow thru the air, deep, skids after bounce. I also am finding hitting into the wind the higher arc of topspin shot seems to be affected more by wind than lower flatter slice shot. I am wondering if you have any plans to show finer points of that shot?
@margiemudge6607
@margiemudge6607 2 года назад
My problem with watching all these videos is everyone has their own style! The rules are never the same as in the last video I watched. It confuses me so much!! Like when you are going for the ball I was told to NEVER cross one foot over the other like you are doing. I was told to always shuffle to the side....
@primetimepickleball
@primetimepickleball 2 года назад
If you’re only shuffling you’ll not be able to get very far. Watch any higher level competitive matches. Everyone crosses over when necessary. Up at the NVZ line you will cross over much less. Were they talking about being up at the line or deeper in the court? That will change things. This sport has a lot of nuance and things depend on the situation. If someone says NEVER about something. I’d be skeptical. I was once told to always reset whenever I got attacked. Terrible advice.
@margiemudge6607
@margiemudge6607 2 года назад
@@primetimepickleball I agree it does depend on the situation. I was just saying I get so frustrated. It depends on who is teaching me and the skills they teach. I think I need to stick to just ONE coach and go with it. LOVE the game! Thank you for responding. Much appreciate it.
@jimw6991
@jimw6991 Год назад
@@margiemudge6607 Margie, are you playing singles or doubles? If you play doubles, other than return of serve and occasional drive, groundstrokes should've be that important. Resets, drops, lobs, flicks, rolls all are tools needed to win at higher levels of play. Can't say great topspin forehand is necessary to win.
