I'm brand new to snowmobiles and just snowchecked my very first sled for 2020. So, I've been searching for videos to help me know things like hand signals, trail etiquette, servicing my sled, etc. You're really the only one out there that makes the effort to show actual tutorials on how to do this stuff....PLEASE keep it up. Subbed.

Great tips. One critique I have which applies to my polaris 800 is that anytime it has anything extra in the fuel aka break in or first ride of the season the engine fouls plugs in 91/non ethanol mode. Assuming the 850 comes with extra oil in the first tank from the dealer, I would run the first tank out before switching to 91/non ethanol mode. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the video. I was told when I got mine to just leave the fuel type on 'non-premium/ethanol' in case I got bad gas and that if non-premium fuel was put in when it was set to premium it could mess up your engine because of timing advance on premium setting. You don't worry about that at all?

Great Video! Check the chain case oil. Last four new Polaris sleds we purchased in the last 4 years only had 3 ounces of oil in them. Very consistent. Spec calls for 10 ounces. Why? Not good to run chain case during break-in with low oil level.

Thanks for providing the info you do. Maybe you can answer a question for me. Been 25 years since ive been on or owned a sled. I bought a '13 Assault 800. Does the battery assist with pulling it over?? Doesnt have electric start. Went to pull it over and its hard as hell to pull. The battery is dead and is currently on charge. I believe the battery is dead since the speedo display didnt come on after pulling up the kill switch and turning the key to on. Has 4000 miles on it and is in very good condition. Thanks

Fuel is pretty dirty nowdays. E10 (95) or E5 (98) here in Sweden or the Aspen non ethanol is the premium but realy expensive but used in chainsaws that are stored with fuel for a long time as it degrades slower then the dirty ethanol fuels.

Back to watching your videos (snow in the yard here on Steamboat). Would love an opinion from you. I sold both my 600s and now looking at 14’ or 15’ 800s (2300 mi) or a 19’ 850 (41 mi). I can essentially get two sleds for the price of one. How reliable are the 800s vs the 850? I’m an intermediate deep powder rider.

It’s still surprising to me that Polaris’ ECM can’t automatically compensate for a change in octane, they don’t equip their sleds with a tether from the factory, that their mountain sleds don’t utilize electronic fuel gage, and has to suggest that you bring additional spark plugs with you. I don’t have any major beef with any of the four brands and I think they all bring something to the table. I do ride a SkiDoo, but an SKS or Khaos would definitely be my second choice.

David Rowley the fuel in the tank now is 91 and has 10% ethanol in it and I added it with fuel stabilizer from last season. I work at a Polaris dealership.. One thing I say. DO NOT BUY THE 850 FOR THE FIRST YEAR! Had 3 guys already end up with hurt engines already. 1) Major cylinder wall scoring 2) Teflon from the piston was wearing away incredibly fast 3) Crank has problems with having play moving back and forth a tiny bit messing up oiling paths All of this is happening already within the first 50-200 miles on these sleds. Sure you get good warranty term but it doesn't help when you have your sled blowing up in the mountains and needing a heli to fly you out. Or even just when having downtime in the short winter season. ALSO: If your dealership adds oil into the tank in the PDI get it drained out. You will be fouling plugs like a mother fucker
