In this video, I'll go through my favourite 5 small but important updates to DaVinci Resolve 18.1. Whilst there were a lot of big new features announced with the arrival of Davinci Resolve 18.1, there were also some really useful smaller features and updates added that make a really big difference and should make life editing video much easier. Be sure to stay tuned to the end to see all 5 of my favourite new features that are mostly underrated but really helpful.

👋🏻 ABOUT ALEX and DEPIQD 👋🏻
Alex is a certified DaVinci Resolve trainer and video producer with a mission to simplify and reduce the learning curve of producing fantastic video content. Alex has been in filmmaking for over 14 years and, in 2016, set up his company, Depiqd (said Dee-PikT), which initially focused on traditional video production.
Now, whilst Depiqd still offers video production services to our clients today, the focus is on reaching and helping as many people as possible to get started using video and make the process of learning enjoyable, stress-free and efficient without it costing a fortune.
Whether you have personal or business-driven goals, video is so powerful and can reach people in many ways that other forms of media can. However, it can be laborious, complicated, and expensive, and it takes a long time to become proficient, so often, people give up far too soon.
If that sound's familiar, hopefully, the videos on this channel will help you. Please consider subscribing and turning on notifications, so you don't miss new videos as they get released.

Came to Davinci about three years ago at version 16. The software has been developed in such huge steps since then. Unbelievable!

One of only 2-3 channels, I give a thumbs up prior to watching the video! You have helped me quite a bit. Love the intro, have you done a video explaining how you created it? Thanks!

Just discovered your channel. I'm a FCP user wanting to switch to DV.. and having a hard time, but getting there.. I had several aborted attempts in the past, but I think this one will be the good one, thanks on side to amazing RU-vidrs like you without whom the task would be so much harder.. and also thanks to the updates to Resolve that luckily seem also get inspired but FCP to implement some features, and of course adding so much more powerful and unique features. For now , the thing I miss the most in DV is the ability to mark up multiple in and outs in the same clip, and attributing keywords that turns into smart bins.. I'm looking into the markers systems of DV, but everything looks much more cumbersome.. For the rest, really excited if I finally make it to DV. Thanks for your channel.

Hi 👋 Thanks so much for your comment and congrats on sticking with it. I have my fingers crossed for you that this will be the time it sticks. The feature you mention is a really awesome one in FCPX and it’s not quite possible in Davinci Resolve although there is a possible workaround that’s not too cumbersome. Maybe I’ll have to put a video together to show you. 😉

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd To be honest, it's a rough ride. I'm now doing my first commercial work using DV which (luckily) consists in very simple 15 seconds edits.. but yet, things that I was capable of doing blasting fast in FCP happens to be much more complicated in Resolve. Also, despite having watched many videos on RU-vid about color management and profiles, I didn't still manage to see the exact same image inside DaVinci as the exported file (currently looking much more crushed / darker shadows). Another feature I miss so much is the filmstrip view in FCP's viewer, that currently is totally unique and amazing to dervish long takes when many different scenes are happening (very frequent in documentary..)

Thanks Alex for your quick and valuable hilights of the updates to DaVinci Resolve 18.1 👍 *Question Alex* : is there a way to change a project's thumbnail in our Davinci Resolve 18.1 project pool after we exported it?

Thank You Alex, it would have been difficult to discover them! Would be very appreciated a video on the multiple way to synchronize external audio with video track (from a recorder mic as the famous Instamic) and how to lock this audio to the synchronized video track, and, most of all, what happen if my audio track or my video track is in a different number of pieces in respect of its counterpart...

Would you know how to export the markers now to .csv? Before 18.1, they were included in Export > Edit Index... but since they were divided, I am lost on how to export the markers into a .csv or .xlsx file. Context: I use markers to write notes for b-roll gathering. so I usually export the marks to .csv so that I can gather b-roll in one go using the exported marker list as my gathering list.

Another terrific video… But if I can nitpick a little bit, slow down. You go through these things so fast. There’s no hurry. We want to hear every word you have to say.

Thanks for the feedback, Allen! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch the videos and letting me know what you’d like to see to make them better. I know there’s a RU-vid consensus that people need to get to the point etc etc so I think I have to find the right balance. Although possibly slowing down compared to getting to the point are actually two different things. Happy New Year to you.
