Yeah the one in the video is actually mine, happy to have made the cut, and in truth it’s a captive bred Candoia paulsoni tasmai, I think it’s a male, but whether he’s nippy or not totally depends on how I take him out, if I come from above he doesn’t like it but if I scoop him out then he’s totally fine, and once he’s out he’s chill, only got bit once so far, but yeah love him to bits

I believe the footage you have of the viper boa is actually a Solomon island ground boa. Viper boas are much more short and heavy bodied(when you see a picture of one, it really does look like a death adder at first glance). They are in the same genus but different snakes. Cool vid tho.

The thing about how animals bred in captivity tend to become less defensive is an really fun example of natural selection in captive animals. This is because temperament is something actively being selected for in all wild individuals. There probably are more mellow and easy going individuals in most wild clutches, but they will usually be picked off by predators in the wild. Captivity removes predator as a factor for selection, so even in situations where there isn't selective breeding for temperament, they will naturally become more docile because the ones that are not defensive will probably still make it to adulthood, and thus have the possibility of reproducing. In the pet trade this is also self reinforcing because less defensive animals are more accessible to novice breeders just because it's easier to breed something that's not defensive. This is also why the burms in the everglades are notably more defensive than the ones in captivity. This is specifically also animals where there's not any actual artificial selection for temperament. If there is specific breeding for temperament this all happens much faster.

I keep an adult female Solomon Island Ground Boa and she is a calm, slightly shy specimen that has never even tried to bite me which is common, from what I have read, for both the Solomon Island ground and tree boas. Viper boas have different care, appearance, and temperament that, also from what I have read, is more akin to short tail pythons. Keeping a Candoia Paulsoni like a viper boa could also cause it health issues and there are currently a fair number of Paulsoni available right now from imports that have been coming in since early this year as well as captive bred…not trying to be a jerk, just don’t want perspective keepers to be confused by the video clips.

I live in an area (south of France) where you can find the jeweled lacerta in the wild and there are a few species that i kept for a while (and then released right where i'd found them) that might make great pets! I always wanted to do a breeding project with Black leaf turtles but found it nearly impossible due to how scarce it is to find one let alone a pair so I opted for Chinese box turtles which have a very fun personality. I can attest that viper boas can be a little bitey but considering where they come from and the fact they live and hide in the ground I would think they are open to a lot of predators including humans there. They do not appreciate being handled but if one has patience, they can be tamed to some degree with cage knocking before you enter. This method worked for me.

I was thinking a video about snakes from different countries could be cool. For instance snakes (or reptiles) that you can get in Australia. There are some species that you can get outside of Australia as well, like the antaresia, that you have talked about in the past. It would be pretty cool to see some carpet python's in your video's, but I'm not sure if you can get many of them outside of Australia. I have an albino darwin python and she is super sweet. She's a subspecies of carpet python and it'd be pretty cool to see some snakes like her in one of your video's.

Rosy boas have the same issues as viper boas in the UK everyone used to breed them and you could buy them for pennies then people stopped and now it's ridiculously difficult to find them

Flutie's sleepy face during the Skill Share shoutout. 🥺❤ Too cute. The leaf turtle I'd never heard of til Dayyan got his. I'm not a big turtle person, but I gotta admit, they're adorable. I feel like chameleon geckos are gunna explode in the hobby soon. Seems like more people are starting to find out about them. I'd 100% get a sunbeam snake if they were more terrestrial. But, as Tyler Rugge put it... you basically have a pet tub of dirt. Like a much prettier Kenyan sand boa with higher humidity.

I'd like to see a list of reptiles and amphibians that can be kept at room temperature (60's to 70's) since reptiles live basically everywhere there must be species that don't require heat other than a basking spot.

I was waiting to see if chameleon geckos were on this list. Love my E agricolae, he's always sitting out in the open(but blends in so well with the cork he's DIFFICULT to spot, haha). He hardly jumps, running speed is still slow, mostly he just walks around or sits and stares. He does get nervous during handling so I keep it to a minimum but a very rewarding display animal when combined with a beautiful bioactive setup.

Funny enough at the pet store I work at, we actually have long tailed grass lizards which are the same species as the Asian grass lizards and a lot of people kind of pass them by for the other animals we sell. They are pretty cool too and are great to watch.
