I'd escaped from North Korea-alifornia five years ago. Bought my HK VP9 right after I got my new state's drivers license. No BFSC, no 10 day wait, no high cap magazine ban, no 1 gun a month, no assault weapon ban. Picked it out, 10 minutes to do the federal form and background check, and pay for it. Walk out the door. Got my CCW. My new home state has constitutional carry so no permit for either concealed or open carry. I got my CCW as it makes buying a new gun faster. You don't need another background check as you already got a deep background checked already. And 37 other states honor my CCW. It's also a "shall issue" state. It's not based on how much you donated to the sheriff's re-election campaign. To hellnwith North Korea-alifornia.

You can literally just drive East. There are actual roads that run al the way to the Atlantic. Put your stuff in the car and drive. Freedom is just over the horizon.

If you read what I posted you'll see that I think for being alone in mountainous terrain where longer range engagements are more likely the 308 is a better option than the 5.56/223 and for suburban/urban the 5.56 is where it's at. I would rather have a squad of joes myself, but for personal security out here in the mountains of nowhereville that would be well beyond my budget.

I 100% agree and I'm looking for an air rifle that's good for it myself. The biggest thing I've run into is the bigger ones with CO2 can take out anything, the smaller pump ones can take out small game and the compact one's won't do anything. The added weight and bulk of the big and mid one's can be negated by a .22 lr rifle so it's just the best option in my book. Plus with a henry AR 7 they take up no space.

Yes, if you’re a gun owner you should have air guns. I can target shoot with my Crossman 1377 pistol in my garage when it’s 3 feet of snow outside. Total cost about 75 dollars these days for pistol, and pellets.

Most airguns these days are too expensive or too inaccurate to be worth the hassle. You're better off with .22Lr unless you really need the quiet.

I have been saying the same thing. AR9 with Glock mags and a Glock pistol. Mags and rounds interchangeable. CQB and out to 100yds.

A 308 imho has a long and expensive learning curve and is not really necessary for a suburban resident. In addition the ar will perform most of the reasonably long game hunting.

the 5.56 is a .22 caliber. if you think that is acceptable for big game hunting I disagree. Good chance you NOT recover the animal or it will suffer (deer is all it is legal for in some states - some not - it's to small) Deer, black bear, elk, moose, Brown bear, sheep, goat, antelope, etc it is not a legal round (with the exception of deer in some states which I think it should not be) I have seen and heard of alot of lost deer because the person used a 5.56 - not acceptable. @@butchie2752

Solid choice. I carry a Glock 23 .40 cal for CCW and find it the perfect size for concealed carry. Shoots awesomely as well

The robbery suspect failed to stop for police and the suspect eluded officer’s apprehension attempts. The robbery suspect eluded officers for several miles and eventually exited I5 toward the City of Battle Ground, Washington where assisting officers successfully deployed spike strips to immobilize the vehicle. The robbery suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to avoid apprehension. As assisting officers established containment, a resident in the Battle Ground area called 911 reporting a lone male, coincidentally matching the description of the robbery suspect, was pounding on their front door asking for assistance because he had just been involved in a collision. The female caller told emergency dispatch her husband was an armed off-duty Vancouver Police Officer and had exited their residence onto the driveway in front of their home in an attempt to detain the suspect for responding officers. The suspect then became aggressive and engaged in a physical fight with the off-duty officer while the female caller was still on the phone with emergency dispatch. The off-duty officer lost control of his firearm and suffered several stab wounds during the struggle with the suspect. The off-duty officer was able to recover his firearm that he lost control of during the struggle then ran after the suspect who was attempting to enter his home while still in possession of the instrument used to stab him. Within seconds of responding law enforcement officers arriving on scene, one Clark County Deputy Sheriff fired several rounds from a rifle striking the off-duty officer. The off-duty officer/homeowner collapsed on his front porch before responding officers were able to determine he was the homeowner and not the alleged robbery suspect. The suspect surrendered to police moments later and was taken into custody without incident. Officers attempted to provide emergency trauma care to the off-duty officer, but they were unable to stabilize him. The deceased off-duty Vancouver Police Officer has been identified as 52YOA Donald Sahota.

@@funkfarmer7125 Same. I'm way up in the mountains, and I still sleep with a 9mm under the pillow and the M4 nearby. About once a week I take her out and do a few drills, mostly muscle memory at this point, but I also like to trial a mix of factory and custom loads through the old girl to see if anything makes her jam up. I swear it's one of those guns that just never quits on a guy. I will admit to having a 14" 870 as a backup backup in the bedroom closet, but so far I'd rather have the luxury of just an astounding amount of semi auto firepower at my fingertips when there's no time to be fumbling around with a pump. The 9 gets me to the m4, the M4 gets me to the vault, and the vault can set up a small army. I sleep like a baby every night even being miles from anyone who's not kin.

12 ga. shotties trump all in this regard. As long as you can get primers (or make them) then you can use all sorts of crap as propellant, and use anything and everything as projectiles. Rusty old nuts and bolts, nails, ball bearings, hell-even rock salt! You can use match heads as propellant. Barbecue charcoal and tree stump remover (potassium nitrate) can be used as propellant as well. Reliable primers are the difficult part, but shotguns have EVERYTHING else going for them because when you're all out of ammo and nobody will sell you any (or nobody has any) then you can always improvise!

I like your list. I got no problem with mp. I’m a Glock guy but hey mp works. But even when you gotta hump distance and you’d love to have a lighter kit there’s a reason they still give you a heavy barrel for long guns.

I also have an AK; but once you start really training with it, you realize all your biggest issues are solved by the AR platform. It's just easier to use and get fast with on all the skills.

A friend of mine who is a police officer recommended I get something in .40 s&w because it's one of the main calibers law enforcement uses, great knock down power and will always be on the shelf when everything else is sold out.

@@alrich7589 that part about knock down power and always on the shelves is absolutely correct, I handload my carry ammo, use basically a really slow pistol/12g powder got some pulled hst and gold dots, loaded to over 1100 fps(hadem up to 1200 but stay at 11, easier on the gun), I will say a compact 40 Is a handful if you font have strong hands and can be hard to shoot but once u got it....man a 180gr bullet breaking 1100 in .4p cal is in a diffrent league than a 115gr 9mm(vs10mil aka 40cal) doin about the same, after a decade of g23 my 19x I swear in could drive tracks with, very very quickly, for a novice I'd def rec a 19 or 17 something 9mm, but ill.always be 40, 40 is what's considered a high pressure round a lot of people dont know that, basically a magnum, cant remember the psi but it's quite a but more than 9, 380. And so on

Yes I e got some of these. My favorite is nickle plated mark 4 with bull barrel...love these guns. Also have a 22 ruger "charger" that is probably my favorite to shoot. And a ruger 22 LR with a archangel kit that's awesome too...yes I have too many 22s or is that possible? Lol

I agree with that. I have a KP-9 for HD. I have replaced almost everything and put a Holosun red dot with a 1500 lumen flashlight. It is crazy front heavy, but little recoil and accurate.

Definitely anything is better than nothing for home defense, but a shotgun would likely not be my choice if I had any other option available.

I think a shotgun is the best home defense choice. loaded with 00 or 4 buckshot. Not as a nightstand choice, but if you are awake my goto would be a shotgun. what is your choice. @@1John3.8

My Remington 870 wing master was a slayer, shot so fast it would jam up at times. They had just had the pros shooting at the huge range outside of Orlando the day prior and I shot good enough to tie for first place. Skeet. They were dumbfounded that this old country boy did it with a 50 year old Remington 😂.

My buddy owns an older Marlin Model 60 that holds 17 rounds. I've had the privilege of shooting it a couple times. What an absolute joy to shoot. And I, too, own the Ruger AR-556. I'm still getting acquainted with that one but I'm enjoying the process.

A small 22 long riffle is a great round to hunt with. Not as loud and it's cheap to buy a boat load of survival ammo

7.62 x 39 is pretty easy to find in my state atleast gotta love a sks..

I’m have 38/357s as a go to. Revolvers and lever actions. I reload and cast ammo so I have enough supplies to load at least 75k rounds. I believe reloading is or perhaps was the key. Since ammo and reloading supplies disappeared at the same time and came back slowly at highly inflated prices I don’t know anymore.

I personally don't see the point in a pcc in 9mm if it's only semi auto. You get more accuracy and or capacity but that is a weak round to carry in a larger platform. What's your intended use? in all sincerity, I'm curious. Nothing but love

You can get decent quality 9mm for as low as 25 cents a round, whereas decent 556 ammo would cost 3 times as much. Also if your primary weapon (rifle) goes down, you're not sitting there with a bunch of ammo you can't use.

Another consideration is that a PCC makes an effective home defense weapon.

@@faitaccompli5878 This is something a lot of preppers do not think about--redundancy. There is a principle that 2 is 1 and 1 is 0. I have 2 ruger 10/22 rifles and an AR-15 conversion .22lr kit for my AR-15. So if one or more of my .22lr firearms breaks, I still have backups. Otherwise, I have a ton of worthless ammo. I actually think having a 9mm kit for an AR-15 is smart. I didn't even know you could do that...lol

@@polletpower I agree, I'm partial to 9mm though, it's a very versatile round. If you have a 9mm carbine, 9mm sidearm, and a 9mm backup (ankle or back carry) you're good to go.

Unless you're sitting on mountain of 7.62x39 right now pre war. I think that caliber will have to be on the back burner for a couple of years.

Important in the case of a third world war or homeland invasion. It would be good to learn how to use Russian or Chinese weaponry, I've been studying their artillery for a while which they use heavily. Doesn't look too hard so far.

Excellent point! I have a Ruger SP 101 in the odd .327 mag cal….no problem getting ammo all day long when 9mm ammo shelves were bare. A little diversity might be worthwhile.
