My friends' kids are always leaving m&m minis candy tubes whenever they come to visit. I peel the wrapper off and use the tube to hold needle and threaded and stitch markers and such. It keeps my on the go project bag neat and organized.

Great tips! The one where you made a 3 strand yarn is actually how us spinners make a 3 plied yarn, some call it a chain plyed yarn!
@LittlejohnsYarn

I never knew that!

@ari2644 3 года назад
I did that a couple years ago to make a blanket and it really works out nicely :)
@yvonnevzp
@yvonnevzp 3 года назад
That's called chain plying or Navajo ply.
@jalexoneschanel1356
@jalexoneschanel1356 3 года назад
@@yvonnevzp navajo ply is a little bit different, as you ply at the same time as you make the main fiber instead of making a long single and then chain plying after all of the fiber is used up. But yeah, it’s a chain-ply. That’s why you’re able to ‘ply on the fly’
@yvonnevzp
@yvonnevzp 3 года назад
@@jalexoneschanel1356 I have never heard of plying at the same time as spinning the single in all my years of spinning. I can even think of how that would work. That is definitely not how any books or websites I have read have explained Navajo plying.

I like to invest in little paper tags that I can tie onto my project and I'll write my hook size. Sometimes I'll leave a project for a few months before coming back and it isn't financially viable to leave the correct hook with each project until I'm ready to pick it up again. I can pick up a couple hundred tags for just a few GBP and they will last forever... You can even reuse them once your project is finished if they're well kept

I do the same thing but with a picture. Everytime I start a new project I take a picture of the yarn I'm using and the hook (along with the pattern if im using one).

I always have more than one wip at a time so rather than leave the hook with it, I got some number and alphabet beads and slip the appropriate one on my stitch marker. The beads also make cute stitch markers on lobster hooks on their own. I have bought both at Hobby Lobby and Walmart.

I have a couple plastic baskets from Dollar Tree (they're about 1 ft tall x 1 ft across and have oval holes all over) to hold yarn and current projects. I got a couple smallish dowel rods (¼ in maybe?), cut them in half and sharpened 1 end with a pencil sharpener. I use them to stick through skeins of yarn and stick the ends through the handle holes in the top of a basket. Then my yarn unrolls easily as I crochet. It works better with the tighter rolled skeins, like Red Heart Super Saver, than the looser, roundish kind. If I roll my yarn in balls, I'll throw it into the basket and pull the yarn through a hole.
@boxoffrogs9712
@boxoffrogs9712 3 года назад
If you have no spare stitch marker, you can also use a paper clip, safety pin, hair grip (Kirby grip?), plastic covered wire that is used to twist around freezer bag or a twisted/rolled strip of tin foil (aluminium foil). Ziplock bags can hold small projects or crochet hooks. Tic-tac containers for needles. Slip a label from the yarn that you are using into that plastic sleeve that you have the pattern in. If you are making a gift, then also gift a label from the yarn, so that the recipient has the washing instructions. Thanks for another interesting video.

This is wonderful. I use the waxed paper on ALL of my crochet hooks.. It makes the metal ones so smooth and the yarn just glides along... and I learned that from retail when we used it on the clothing racks to keep them from screaching. I tell everyone I know who crochets about it. and I give them pieces of waxed paper that I keep in my crochet bag that I take everywhere. If I have to wait... I crochet. I just made the string runner for the finger. I actually have that dollar tree wire on my sewing desk from other crafting that I do. I've never used one of those but will see how it works. The rest are great tips too.
@lji_btrfly
@lji_btrfly 3 года назад
I also made an organizer out of metal mesh pencil holders from Dollar Tree for my pens, crochet hooks, scissors, etc. I just zip tied 3 of them together in a triangle. You need the pretty small zip ties to go through the mesh holes. You just zip tie 2 of them together, the hold the 3rd 1 to them and put a zip tie where it meets each of the other 2. Pull all the zip ties tight and cut off the excess.

I took a plastic box with a lid from the dollar general, it's was only $1. I put a hole in two sides of the box and put my ball yarn in the box. I use it when I travel, that way the ball doesn't roll around and get dirty.

A safety pin or hair pin works just as well. Keeps your yarn in place. Or that one earring you lost keep the other. The lever back kind. Alot of crafters use them to make stich markers from them. A magnet on your sewing or side table won't let your small things get away. Such as your needles or markers.

I'd say use a stitch marker to create a little tag about what size of hook / needle you used for it. Attach it to where the project started. It's a bit annoying to think you're right and then be able to see where things got tighter / looser when you step back because you went down / up a size.
