I'm 187, 75kg. You won't believe but seeing your insta snippets of hspu with "I can't stop" playing in the background, got me my first hspu. I always had this strict, with nose touch on the floor ideal in my mind and just few days back I achieved that with not 1 but 2 reps. So proud. Thanks a lot Sondre, seeing you doing that 1 finger hspu still pumps my shoulders.

That's great to hear bro :) The fact that you went straight to 2 reps just builds on my hypothesis that technique training is often neglected. You had the strength and once the technique clicked, you went straight for 2 reps. I see this a lot in my students. And congratz on unlocking the most versatile bodyweight strength skill there is :) A whole new world of opportunities just opened up for you! keep it going!!

@@Sondre_Berg it was a funny coincidence that I got it way back but wasn't able to do a nose touch and come back up, the one day I did, I was able to do two in a row :p. Also, yes I've neglected the technique part and have been banging just reps non stop, 4-5 times a week till I got it right. Thanks a lot. Keep inspiring.

Nice video. I also think that many people move too quickly to wall assisted HSPU. I think spending more time with pike push ups and elevated pike push ups is very beneficial as well. I found that my wall HSPU improved then. You covered some great points and the one about back to wall HSPUs and tecnique work really speaks to me. I'm going to start to incorporate back to wall HSPUs once I can do more reps (4-5+). Cheers!

Love your content bro. Great video. I was super bummed with my progress because of crappy form, its nice to know its a normal part of the journey. I cant wait to see you hit a one arm HSPU!

Thanks for that bro :) I see way to often that people are bummed out instead of hyped after achieving the HSPU. You should be hyped AF just unlocking the skill. It is an awesome achievement regardless of form, and the form will come with time :)

Such a great video!! Your thoughts on form are so true! I spent a lot of time trying to get my HSPU to look perfect when just learning it. I've realized how overrated 'perfect' form is... Also spent a lot of time falling towards my chest after using chest to wall HSPU as my main progression (always thought of back to walls as a bad progression from listening to people). Only thing I would add is that form can be useful in keeping difficulty consistent between workouts, but seriously I wish I had this information years ago... Definitely going to help a lot of people out with this one 👍👍👍

I think it's really cool how the crow to handstand is a shortcut to BOTH the handstand pushup AND the handstand press, besides being a great skill in its own right. It's unfortunate that it's so often seen as a "yoga thing" and underutilized in other disciplines.

I have injured my shoulders with labrum tear and tendinitis because of insisting on "proper" technique and going too fast on the progressions(some were together with "proper" coaches...), seeing this video is awesome for me at the moment. I hope I will heal and be able to do these again. Always, I mean ALWAYS listen to your body. Especially when your mind is too fixed on the goals. Just play and enjoy the moment, you don't have to race with anything.
@krippaxxuseredarlordofthes9940
You might not get to a point you were before the injury, but you can get even better than that with proper lifestyle.

I think it's a very good thing that a "master" of the handstand and hspu makes videos for beginners. He knows what he's talking about bc he has been so far with the hspu progressions, so "easy" stuff for him is really simple for him to explain. Thanks Sondre !

I find doing the HSPU with a straddle so much more motivating. I can do 3-4 reps for 5 sets and I get to feel for the motion. Hopefully my full HSPU can become 'nicer' over time :) Thx for this video !!!!! Some days I do wonder if I should be a form freak haha
@Sondre_Berg
@Sondre_Berg 2 года назад
A lot of people do :) It is mostly to do wiht the fact that many are more comfortable with a straddle handstand. Strength wise it is about the same. I imagine you will get the straight HSPU as your handstand gets better and more comfy :)

Where should the weight distribution be through the hands during both the eccentric phase and the concentric phase?. Like more in the finger tips or the heel of the hand. By in the finger tips i mean similar to standing on your feet
@Sondre_Berg
@Sondre_Berg 2 года назад
Having most weight in the fingers is common in the beginning and makes it a bit easier because you can rely more on finger strength for balance. In the long term, as with handstands, you would want to focus on distributing the weight more evenly in the balm 👍 Having weight in the base of your palm or the hand heel as I like to refer to it will make you fall down in your legs very easily. Hope this helped :)

Is there an actual difference in the strength required to do a crow to handstand and a non strict hspu? The only diff is lowering yourself first, right?

How did you get so good at English? Do they teach you English in Norway or you learn it by your own? Holy cow! Role model in every way. :b
@Sondre_Berg
@Sondre_Berg 2 года назад
hahah, yeah, we are taught english at school :) We also get exposed a lot to english through movies, shows etc. and I have been traveling a lot, which really helps. It probably also helps that all of my courses through my master degree was in english and now as a PhD student, most of my colleges are non-Norwegian speakers :P

I can do 8 strict wall-HSPU (chest facing the wall). I can't do a handstand but if someone is correcting me by holding my feet when I do a handstand, I can do 3-4 HSPU. Also, I have enough stenght to push from a headfreeze to handstand but I can't hold the handstand. What progressions should I train?

Learn to handstand. Also, when you have to balance yourself, it’s much harder to rep out hspu
