Hey RoadKing I just wanted to mention that I love your videos and check for new ones every day. I think it's awesome how you guys get together and have fun building and fixing things. I can't wait to see the rest of the Briggs 4 cylinder. I'm a 21 year old college student from Wisconsin BTW. Just to give you an idea of the diversity or your crowd. lol Thanks for posting your vids! -tlum
You got to love those ic engines! There's a real diffrence between those cast iron and the aluminium bore models. Most of my briggs experience has been with smoking because of scored bores and not worn rings. Those cast iron bores are really great. Take care guys :)
thanks Steve!! We knew the Carb would work good on their because we've used them on other briggs but that's the first one that fit right over the original studs!!☺
Two for two, that scrap yard engine for $15 and now this one, pretty sweet. Maybe it's me, but it seems like small engines used to be pretty hard to find and pricey when you did find them. On the other hand it seems like there is a lot more equipment with small engines out there now-a-days, so I suppose it makes sense.
Those are the good newer briggs engines .. If ya gotta go newer thats the engine for the 5 HP to go with ..Those carbs are way better than the old tank mount carbs .. That carb had a broken ear on the float mount or I am sure it would have cleaned up fine .. Thanks for the vid !!
Geez, the guy you got it from was going to scrap a perfectly good engine. All it needed was a little carb work. You would be surprised what people want to throw away.
i was working on the same engine but it only had like one tank of gas through it and it wouldnt run so i checked the compression and there was very little. i pulled the head and it all looked good till i wiggled the valves and the exhaust wigged all over there was no way the guide wore on the first tank of gas so i pulled the valve cover to find that briggs didn't have the valve sprig retainer in all the way so the spring was at a bad bad angle pluuing the valve sideways till it got to the point it wore the valve seat, guide, and valve to nothing. i had a spare block so i put all his new components on the other block and it still runs to this day
fix the weak recoil spring, i hate it when people dont fix them on push mowers and stuff like that and just allow them to hang out 2 feet, next thing you know the rope and handle are sucked under the deck and little jimmy next door has a deep cut in his foot because a starter grip flew into it
