Erik's Earth that is not dictated by the logo, that is dictated by the success of the brand. In my opinion there are tons of big companies with really old and ugly logos but they last because of the sales of that brand
In short: • Creative type like dripping text • Double exposure, composed images of more than one picture • 3D, see virtual reality • Vivid colours and gradients • Geometric shapes and patterns
Hello Will, As a new student at Full Sail University going into Graphic Design, I noticed alot of what you mentioned in this video is what they are really driving home in our work. Simplicity, color palettes, geometric shapes, everything. Good call and great video. Im only starting out and just recently started learning photoshop. Im nervous as heck but once I get it, I’m confident I’ll OWN it :)! Thanks for the video and sharing your thoughts.
Hi Will. Great vid mate. Seriously, as somebody coming back from a few years out from the graphic design and the game industry, your content inspirational. I Know you have something like 300 and odd vids on youtube, so I'm going to make it my mission to get through them all and learn by your example. Anyway I wish you and all your viewers a fantastic Christmas. And thanks for creating all these vids, us fellow you tubers are lucky to have you give so much.
Love love love colour!!! Thank you, another great vid. I bet your mother loves you. I can imagine you having a lot of enthusiasm when you were younger. x
Excellent information and research. I strongly agree with your final speculation on the increasing prevalence of simple geometric forms utilized in repetition in order to create novel, elegant, and expressive solutions to the contemporary problems related to brand identity penetration.
Loved a lot of the points you made. I've noticed on behance MANY fonts becoming more playful and artistic. My current favorite being futuracha... it's brilliant.
I really hope bold colours comes back, you can even see it in movies now too, because for the past few years we've seen a lot of de-saturated colour-grading, but colour is beginning to return, even in superhero movies.
I think that we will have a very heavy influence of the 80s and Bauhaus this year. It has already become a trend in Hollywood and in the music industry and things like IT of Stephen King, Drive, Bladerunner... All had a huge impact in 2017 and inspired a lot of people and Sparked that 80s love again. It will come to design. I know I will be sporting it!! Cheers
This was super helpful! I am currently rebranding myself as a recording artist/producer and singer. I go by 24Tye, and I've been trying to come up with designs that will stand out to my fans and new listeners. I will definitely subscribe to keep up with your videos. Thanks Will!
I think it is an interesting video, but i have to say. A good designer does not follow trends, a good designer always tryes to get a creative solution for an specific situation (situation meaning creating a visual identity for a brand, for example). And also, you can’t make an investigation of design trends by going to behance and instagram to see what people are posting. Or by watching the most famous social media logos change to bright colors. The design word is much bigger than the things you can find on behance or instagram, in fact, the greatest things on design are the ones that aren’t there. I think is a good video, you talk about the things you are interested in (logo design amd lettering). But i also think we should think design as something much bigger than logo design, the logo is just a part of brands visual identity, and it definetly shouldn’t be think as the ultimate identificator of a brand, there are so many things that make you identify a brand apart from their logo. ✌️
Maybe you should create a visual design that applies all these design trends or part of these to give your viewers a visual representation of what youre talking about.
I agree with the 3d VR/AR thing! I am currently at one of the only unis offering VR within their 3d syllabus' and we trippled our applicants when this happened, a lot of our sponsors have interests in us creating VR and AR content for them also,
Great video. I've been waiting to find the time to see it. Worth the wait. Sad to hear how "deconstructing" type is going to be a trend. Really? We have Hallowe'en-type lettering to look forward to all year? Everything else to spoke about is very interesting. Thanks so much for the post. And ignore the negativity.
Thanks for sharing! We're excited to utilize some of these trends for our clients in the New Year, especially with your creative entrepreneurs and agency clients. Our service provides unlimited designs so we love to learn how to innovate our designs.
One day, I wanted to see what Color Code RU-vid's Red is (It was long before I watched your Channel firs Time). Then, I found out, that it is actually the Standard FF0000 Color Code. I never thought, a Logo with this Standard FF0000 Red could look professional, so that I never noticed that it is the Standard FF0000 Red that was used for TV Test Screens
Glitch doesn't seem to go any time soon. In fact recently Adidas launched it's new ad designs, all based on sporty, urban underground theme and mixed it with glitch. And contrasting Neon Colors. Wish i could share the link but i don't know how to.
wow! Thank you very much for sharing this useful trends for design. I guess you put a lot of effort into Researching and gathering information. :-) By the way at the end of your video, you showed pictures of invoices for "Charge Late fees"... Who charges "late fees" to their clients? If I do such a thing, then my clients will never come back.
I don’t know. We’re just passing an 80’s inspired couple of years and we are slowly bringing back the 90’s so I expect a lot of grungy, David Carson inspired designs in media and online marketing/advertising.
I personally like San Francisco even though it’s not that different than the older system font Helvetica Neue, but it’s so distinct than Myriad Pro that Apple used to use for marketing and product naming and I like that *bolder* approach.
Jonathan Hofmann I don't like it, it just seems less elegant to me, and Apple used to have the most elegant design imo. I don't like where iOS is heading (not to mention the iPhone in general)
I also bought a C# / Unity course on udemy to hopefully get into VR and AR. I only have a Samsung Gear VR but some of the content is mindblowing. Now I want to start this course asap after realizing that the future is almost here.
As I said before, please make some videos showing logos that are timeless and are versatile to be used on any platform and in any way. Fe of the 2018 logo trends are tempting but they appear to me as a FAD. But it is strange that big companies are accepting these changes and also implying it in their branding.
I made a social media thing for VR designers. It's pretty enjoyable. Maybe you'll make a video about it someday or I'll sponsor you to do a video on VR design tools. :)
what do you think about icongraphy or icons design since mobile app and web became a big thing... i saw a lot of new icons style popped up.... and a lot of new logos look more iconic .....
Sometimes (Like right now) My head is exploding.. Too confuse on what the heck to design even if the theme is already given. I guess this is what they called designer's block.
Interesting video. I enjoyed hearing of these trends. Since I've subscribed to your channel, I've started noticing lettering & design a lot more. I did find the pretty tubes in the first part of your video to be difficult to recognize the words they were forming even though I thought they were neat. Are there any 'rules' about do no harm to the message while you're keeping it trendy?
I'm starting Graphic Arts course and I want to make a LOGO for myself to start, have you ever mixed two different businesses into one LOGO ei: Hair Salon and Decorative Painting events?
I disagree with #3. VR and AR are already sliding back downhill again. Samsung has been giving us consumer-level, affordable VR with their phones for a couple years now, and the interest just isn't there even though the execution was done well. I can't imagine companies will be going further with this technology with watching how the marketplace has passed over the opportunity since Samsung, HTC, Oculus, and more have swung for the fences and come just shy of a homerun. It's really great to hear your predictions, dude! I love your insight and study of design!
I agree with the VR stuff. Same with consumer 3D TV's a few years ago - also advertised as "the new shit". Tech that requires glasses or something that shut you off from the real world just doesn't feel right. At least, for now.
Facebook is placing greater emphasis on moving from videos to VR. This is straight from a corporate employee who spoke on the way Facebook is heading (at a conference).
i hope that double exposure doesnt bevome a big trend. i personally do not like the look of it. BUT i hope there will be kind of an evolution of double exposure. like something more exquisite and high quality using a similar working process.
I definitely see what you mean about AR and VR we are going in that direction but i just feel personally for somethings its so gimmicky such as the Snapchat glasses, Google glass, PokemonGo(now not the beginning) idk does anyone feel this way?
Hey WIll - I really like your predictions... I'd love to have you on our podcast, Obsessed With Design. Let me know if you're interested! Maybe we could do a RU-vid and podcast version of the interview? Keep up the great stuff!
I'm curious your thoughts about the circle icon choices in Google's Android 8.0 update. I personally hate them. I think it's ironic that Google used to fire shots at Apple over it's all square-ish icons and how that made it boring and bland. Now they're doing the same damn thing with their circles. I think the whole appeal of Android to me is that icons can be anything. And now they can't. I wish Google would reverse course on that...
Karen Mitchell if he took the music out, it would be a really boring, empty-feeling video. There’s a reason every you tuber puts cc0 music over every video they make 😂
So basically what I heard of your third point is "We're kinda going back to skeuomorphism"?? Btw I do a lot of video graphics like lower thirds and animated logos and your tips are really applicable to my work So I wonder how 3D could improve mine, yours, and everyone's work. Hope to see some tips and examples in the future.
