YOU ARE JUST AMAZING TUTOR!!!! Just found your video. You are contributing hell Good knowledge in society. You know the fundamentals which play the most important role. However, other people, they are just teaching Softwares. Since I started my Journey in this art I have not found any single person with such great content and knowledge. Your way of explaining is amazing. You would grow dramatically I can bet. i never take the pain to comment on any video, But I can't stop me to appreciate your work. Thanks for creating this chanel.
Kashish, Thanks so much. That's just about the most supportive comment I've gotten. I do my best to give great value and knowledge out to my subscribers fast, clearly, and for free. I really, really appreciate you taking the time to comment- seeing that you never do! LOL.. I hope to see you again in the comment section. ~Peace
As a designer working in the public sector, I've sadly become stuck over the last five years. Mostly because it's an environment where any random manager or higher, will dictate your design based on their personal taste (which is ALWAYS amazing) and your job is to be the 'pencil' that brings it to life. They of course get the credit for the product...but the designer is treated like someone scribbling in the corner with crayons and not doing 'real work.' I've subscribed to your site and newsletter just now, because in the space of watching two videos I felt excited again! You validated the fact that I do have a clue what I'm doing, even if my 'clients' (aka. bosses) don't want to listen. :-/ And that design isn't some random "fun" thing or about making things look "pretty"--it's a skill that takes years to master and we never stop learning, because design trends will always change.
Andeen, Thanks for the super insightful comment! You are so totally right and you've articulated the biggest frustration we all have as designers. Check out a few of my videos on design strategy. Framing your presentation of your work in strategic business theory and consumer-centric terms rather than aesthetic ones is the KEY to selling your ideas and design through to clients.
I most definitely will! Wish I'd come across your site a few months earlier. I literally resigned from a project on Friday because one of the major components was re-branding the organization. As much as I tried to explain it from the strategic angle (since they were also launching a new three-year strategy), the 'boss' refused to listen and took it as a personal attack on her taste, so she doubled down and it was crazy-making. If I'd had your tips in advance, I might have had more ammo to make a dent. LOL! Ah well, live and learn. :)
You're not alone. I've bailed on lucrative client projects because of crazy-making. Life is too short to suffer the insufferable. If you're having any problems you'd like me to do a video about my POV on, let me know. I take requests. email me though my website. I'm getting so many comments these days I can't keep up and I don't want to miss it. Also, sub to my newsletter - I share stuff you might like there too. Hope to "see" you back.
I can totally relate to your experience. I often deal with managers and colleagues that are happy to give feedback on designs however when challenged, their reasoning often falls flat...and instead of accepting and moving forward, they take it personally. Some people have a very hard time in understanding what is personal opinion and what is not.
I work as an Art Director I went to school for Commercial Art. I have lead many a designer in my time and unfortunately I experienced what you are going through as a young designer. I feel that designers need to design and sometimes those designs are not how I would execute or solve the problem but it is solved by the designer. I choose to not change my designers vision in fact I embrace it. I design a lot as well in my job which really helps me as well. Like there are good there are bad directors, it is all part of the process.
This is THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT GRAPHIC DESIGN VIDEO ON THE INTERNET. PERIOD. Thank you for such golden content. Honestly wishing More growth and success to your channel.
Bankole, Thanks so much!~ Can you do me a favor as a small thank you? Please share my video with a friend or two! I'm trying to build my subscribers. More to come!
I am passing along the link to this very helpful video to an associate who was just discussing the importance of branding an activist group he works for. Thanks for this very excellent video.
Been watching a few videos yesterday and all day today, on creating a brand mood board. I'm so happy your video came up. You've added some deeper perspectives that has shifted and refined my entire thought process and potential branding style. I'm so happy to have found this video 🙏🏼 Lots of gratitude and love from the Caribbean island of Trinidad & Tobago🇹🇹
Despite this video is getting a bit old, I'm just watching now and still have amazing content. Btw very interesting way of making a presentation Philip!
@@PhilipVanDusen I'm sorry Phillip, I made the comment on the wrong video, I meant about the original video you posted the link on the description. Anyway, both are awesome.
Thank you Phillip for another useful and inspirational video. In my experience, the most information (copy strategy or brief) you have about your client requirements, the better results in the final product. One of the most important keys in developing a success Brand is the previous information you can get from the client. Best regards.
Phillip, thanks for explaining things with the humbles every designer should have. Everytime I watch your videos I get more and more confident about my work. Thanks you for passing good information with amazing pedagogics. I'm in Argentina and my designer institute doesn't offer that much actualization and modernity. I'm showing your channel to all of my college companions though I'd love to see some subtitles in spanish. Again, thanks a lot to help us grow! ♥
I really like your videos, among lots of lots of lots videos out there you are the one that speaks normally and to the point, just explaining how it is. Please more vids!
I think there has to be a certain point that is critical, and this is: design is an universe, and no guide is absolute. For example, right now I am working on the personal brand of a fashion designer, and there are a couple of things that I have to take into account like store fronts, that you wouldn't have into account on other projects like a software developing company, on the other hand this software development company is far more likely to have EXTENSIVE animation elements because the branding will appear in the software and in videos and trailers and in social media, but store fronts will not be as important because generally, software studios don't use stores as their primary selling checkpoint. Anyway, amazing video and really helped me, loved it!
Sabiki Kasukō, Thanks so much!~ Can you do me a favor as a small thank you? Please share my video with a friend or two! I'm trying to build my subscribers. More to come!

Very good video! I'm a digital marketer but my job right now requires me to design artwork and create brand guidelines for my company. I'm learning from the ground up but this video was very cohesive and helped me understand what I needed to know to start creating! Thank you so much for this :-)
Gabby- there are a LOT of templates out there on Envato.com and GraphicRiver.com for creating brand guidelines documents. No need to reinvent the wheel.
Thank you so much for posting such high quality videos with great content this has been so helpful and easy to follow. You are also a very engaging speaker, wonderful energy. I cam listen to you talk about any subject because thats how authentic and engaging you are. Wishing you great success!!!

Thank you so much for this awesome info packed, easy to understand video! We were shown your video by our business teacher down here in Western Australia. We love your content! I’ve shared your content with my friends too! I’ve been to your website and I’ve downloaded your awesome resources ☺️ but but I can’t for the life of me find the one page brand guideline template you were talking about anywhere… Wishing you well and more success to come (any help with the one page template would be great) thank you Thank you Philip 🙏
Thanks for the great comment. I literally created that template in Keynote on the slide for this video. It doesn't exist elsewhere. It's very basic, you could just take a screenshot and re-create it. But I do have a more robust template and you've given me the idea to create it as a download! So watch for that in the future.
Bobby, Chris is a great guy and a good friend of mine. I'm sure you will get a ton out of his content. You should check out the Youpreneur mastermind community. It costs $, but it's really worth it. There are a LOT of really smart folks there who will ad rocket fuel to your business (me included...LOL) Cheers mate!
Chase, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. It’s nice to know at least a few people are making it past my trend video into my much larger body of video work. Thanks for taking the plunge!
Jarmelo, I just did a video talking about this very subject a few videos ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FrPtBZCeTk8.html Personal Branding with Personal Style. I'm of the opinion that anything you can do to make yourself stand out from the crowd is good. You just have to do it consistently. Style - or how you look is a very personal thing. Just be authentic to who you are as a person.
Philip VanDusen Yo that's wassup Phillip. I was thinking to get larger clients. I had to always wear button downs and loafers... But you got me motivated to add some personal swag... Thanks man!
When it comes to interaction with clients: You can never dress up too well, but you can dress too casual. Always err on the side of formal. No one wants a sloppy designer - or one who doesn't seem to care. Business is business.
Wonderful again. I'm just starting out but I've nailed a few of the points you've made which is good to know although I've much to learn still Thanks for the insight.
Gilberto - Soooooo many people - and brands- need to see this video. The world is full of so much...oh don't get me started. I aim to please - glad you liked it.

I am using Canva to design coordinated t-shirts and dog bandanas etc for my new shopify store. I am incorporating clip art illustrations with commercial license in my designs. For now I don´t have the money to hire a designer to create all the exclusive designs for my brand (as I would like). So I plan to use different dog images for each collection (adding always the same brand fonts and logo). But I am worried that I will loose my brand identity. Please help this rookie! Thanks!
Great guide for those beginning brand design. Wish I had clients that had the budget to address some of these elements, eg sound. Also anyone else see the irony that a great designer has an absolutely awful graphic design background on his mac haha.
I've been curious about my Instagram. I've created one to show my photography style. However, I'm also an illustrator and I want to to show my illustrations. The question: Should I make two separate accounts, one for each; or should I display my photography and illustrations on the same Insta?
Hi Philip, I come across to watch your GREAT video. I'm not a native speaker, but your speaking is pretty clear and quite easy to understand. Thank you so much for such a great work you have done, and thanks for your kind heart to share these knowledge to the world. I'm seriously doing my branding now, but being as a novice on branding, so would it possible for me to reach you somehow and have your kind advice and education? I subscribe to your Channel, and will try to watch more and more of your great videos. Thank you sooooo muchhhhh Philip. Have a wonderful life. Karin Hualthanom
