This list is on point! I managed to avoid four of them. 😁The main mistake I made was listening to the wrong people, reading the wrong books and wasting time trying to implement flawed processes. Luckily, I found your site and your Domination course. You mad so much sense, I was able to stop floundering around and begin to focus on your suggestions. I think that have a string of GOOD events helps, too. I found a great software package for publishing (Affinity Publisher/Design/Photo). I also snagged some great deals on stock photos. Together with the ideas I learned from your course, I was able to make my first imperfect book. Ten months later, my second book was done! Promotion is a HUGE part of the journey. That's where I struggle. But my expectations are realistic.
I’m so excited to hear your progress! It sounds like you’re on the right track. I actually bought infinity publisher but haven’t found time to dive into it just yet. I’m not sure where you get stock images from but deposit photos runs great deals a couple times a year. Please keep me updated on your progress!
Great tips! Not setting realistic expectations was my 'fav mistake'. I'm learning and accepting that things usually take longer than we think they will... and being proactive with marketing is the way to go!
Glad you enjoyed the video and I completely agree with your choice on ‘fav mistake!’ Especially with so many ads spouting claims that this is a get rich quick business, it’s very easy to get disillusioned and then disappointed!
Thanks for highlighting the PURPOSE of the publishing. I made a book for me for my first, so I would at least enjoy the process while making all my mistakes. But it still felt like a failure because no one was telling me that this is a perfectly valid reason to make and publish your book. That was a few years ago, and now (after a bit of Life Happening and a lot more learning about self-publishing) I'm just sitting down to do my first mini-series. I know the things to avoid, and I know the things to do, so hopefully this will be a better experience overall. I won't be running ads to start with, but waiting to be strategic about them - so I can target exactly the people I want.
Excellent advice, Keith. Thank you 🙏 Numbers 2 and 5 probably my ‘favourites’ but I think all of the ‘mistakes’ you mention are well worth taking into account. I’ve been aware of number 1 for a while now not just in book creation but in other areas too. In fact, I’ve often wondered why YT keeps very very old vids up in such fast changing areas but I guess that’s just an algorithm too far! 😄
Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, YT doesn't take down old videos. It's up to the content creator to unpublish it. And many creators don't bother taking them down. Unfortunately.
You're quite welcome and thank you for the kind words. I certainly hope it helps you and others see success faster. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
You're VERY, VERY right, Keith about all five! My favorite is the one about our written art that is perfectible and deliver it as well as we can.And from there, it can be further improved. I agree on focusing on one, two genres to start with. And, you're absolutely right that we must do some promotion for the book. Thank you, Keith! 🙂
