May be odd, but I gave up on the bath and just hop in the shower with my pup. Which is just that much easier (no lifting, no slippery bathtub etc.). I think the fact that I am in there myself also convinces him there is nothing to fear.

I highly recommend using a Furminator. And my nail trimming was SO much easier once I started doing them when they were in the back of my Subaru wagon. They were finally at the right height! Had little success when they sat on the ground.

I own a 1 and a half year old German Shepherd. It took me an entire year to get her over two bad experiences in the bath as a pup. TAKE YOUR TIME!! Pay attention to how your dog is feeling. That's the only thing that matters. Time doesn't matter. Believe me, it's better to have a smelly pup for a few weeks or even months than to have a smelly dog for a year.

My puppies don’t like water/getting wet so what I started doing to try to get them to at least tolerate it is I’ve wet a towel so that it’s soaked, I lay it down on the tub and I stick one of those lick pads on the tub with some yummy treat spread on it, the first day they walked around all funny with like one paw up in the air trying not to get wet but too interested in the treats I threw in to wana get out Day 2 I did the same thing, day 3 they finally kept all the paws on the towel didn’t seem to mind the wetness, day 4 Same thing expect I fed them their meal in there and after they finished I tossed in some treats and put the yummy licking pad for them they ended up sitting down witch I was impressed, day 5my baby girl jumped in right away by herself, also when I do this I probly do it for like 10-15 minutes, I also don’t want my pups to jump out when they feel they are done so I’ll tell them “OKAY” loud n clear and lift them out the tub dry their paws and done. Gradually I will add more, n more water. To be honest I got this idea from someone’s video to gradually condition their cats to like water and since shibas are known for their kinda cat likeness I assumed why not try this xD so far I feel it’s working :)

Great tips for teaching the bath. Unfortunately the breeder I got my Poodle puppy from already traumatized my pup over the bath before I got her. Now grooming is not optional for poodles and I have had to continue to do the bath even though she's not happy about it. I do try to counter condition with food in the bath but still she doesn't have great bath behavior and I dread giving her a bath. Idk how the groomer does it when I bring her to get clipped. Please breeders train, don't traumatize! If you don't have the time to do it right, don't do it, let the new owner train the pup for the bath, etc

My girlei loves a Yak stick, but we have to limit her to 10 minutes - she can demolish a whole large one in half an hour! Her teeth are lovely though. She gets her teeth cleaned with a finger pad in the evening before bed when she's calm & a little sleepy, same with examining her feet and nails.

Hi please do a video with questions from videos here’s some of mine 1. Do I put peanut butter or a solid treat in a Kong 2. How do I know a dog thinks one treat is higher value them another 3. Do dogs have naps and if so long or short 4. What is the best chew toys to get for puppy’s 5. What’s the best way to keep a puppy calm when a lot of people they don’t know come to there house
@michelle.k9496
@michelle.k9496 3 года назад
1. Put peanut butter in it or something that isn’t super easy to get out. It will keep them busy for a while 2. Dogs will usually prefer a treat over the other. They will be willing to work harder for it and when you feed it to them, they will lick the surfaces of what it was in to try and get as much of it as possible 3. Dogs do have naps during the day. They are usually 3 hours 4. Soft chew toys are great for puppies, they are easy to chew however they probably won’t last long. I don’t suggest getting a toy with rope or fur on it because they puppy can pull that out and it can become a choking hazard. Hard toys can chip their tooth and they will have to get it removed but the tough toys usually last longer. You can ask your puppy’s vet about it. 5. You need to do a lot of training and socialising with your puppy, especially when they are 8-13 weeks. You have to introduce them to humans, different sounds, different textures and different environments. I don’t suggest you to being them to a dog park in that time period because they will be on vaccinations and they could get diseases from other dog poop. To train them, u would put a treat near their nose so they can smell it. Make sure they also see the treat in your hand. Then guide them to a sit and stay command. Then give them the treat and lots of positive reinforcement. Extend the time period they will have to stay to get the treat. For example frost start off with 5 seconds, then 10 seconds, then 20 seconds and so on. If your puppy moves guide them back to the sit and stay command and repeat the process until they have got it. Then invite some people over. Make sure to have treats in your hand. Let them stand outside the front door. And bring your puppy in a sit and stay at the front door. Open the door slowly and if they break that command then quickly close the door and guide them back to the sit stay command. Keep doing it until that person can come in your house without the dog jumping on them. I also suggest you drain their energy out by taking them on regular walks or you can keep them in the crate. If your puppy jumps on someone, take the back to their crate and let them back out when they calm down. This is just what I’ve have learnt. I’m no vet or dog trainer. If this isn’t working, you can get a professional dog trainer to train your puppy.

I do the peanut butter trick as well. Dogs aren't scared of the water, it hurt their ears as it pours, it's the same thing with rain. Imagine a million super high pitched explosions and that is what they hear. I fill the tub line the wall with peanut butter and use a shower sprayer. Then I do basic drying while they are in the bath so they can shake and shower me! Lol the towel dry is the best part because it's a power dry and then the door opens and they can do zoomies. Then I give them a high value treat, like a bone or their favorite toy.

Any tips for me? I have an 11 week old black lab. I’ve been teaching her sit, lay down, up, her name (Luca) and go to bed. She knows how to do all those things now but my problem is when I’m feeding/training her I say her name to get her attention and she immediately starts to do all those commands without me saying any commands. Don’t reward her when she does all of that without you using a command! Throughout the day just call her name and give her a treat right when she comes to you and then don’t do any commands after. And, during training do one at a time and switch up the order you do them. Sometimes make her sit, stay, lay down. Then, sit lay down, up. Keep them on their toes. Labs are smart (I have a 6 month old black lab 😉) and they do what they know gets treats/rewards!

Time to teach her stay, or wait. And they can sit or lay down while you make their food. But it takes some time especially if they really like that food. Haha mine is great at waiting and she lays down but she barks at me to hurry it up and tell her “okay take it” 🤣

I definitely would. My 4 gsd hates the tub because he slips. It got a lot better with a Matt. My lab pup slips but not as much. With tables it depends on what it’s made of. If it’s slippery on your hand when you put pressure, like sliding your hand on it, then I would invest.

Just saying purebred German Shepherds do have that trait of floppy ears when they are puppies but since the ears are so big some bigger pups take longer for them to straighten out which just means the ears are getting stronger as the puppy ages to lift those dumbo ears😂 but really you shouldn’t worry about explaining it’s a real German Shepherd you just got a big one, wishing you guys to have a fun and safe journey!

Hey just wondering if you thought about this, I would rather see a voiceover and someone in the background actually working with the dog without talking. Cuz what I have seen in the handling part of the video she was talking to the camera to us and then she put the "yes" marker in with that. Yes I understand that this is just a couple minutes while filming and this is not necessarily how training goes all the time but like I said I think I would like to see a voiceover instead of the handler talking through the whole thing cuz it could be very confusing to the dog to know when you saying "yes" to the dog or "yes' to the camera. Just something to think about and possibly add into your videos more.

@pottereli5954

My first thought is fear stage. I would work with a trainer but if that isn’t an option I would start with hand feeding them yourself. Toss the food away from you and over a few days or weeks start throwing closer to you, at your feet. If they get to stressed for back a step. Once they are comfortable hold your hand away from you with lots of food in it. It’s all about rebuilding the bond. I wish you luck!! As I said, I would recommend a trainer. It’s not going to happen right away. If you get frustrated they will pick up on that. Just take a step back and regroup later.

Start with having it around and having her interact with them. Teach a touch command or have them on the floor when you train. Not interacting but just there. Then with the sound of them.
