I need a showerhead with PRESSURE! I want to feel it in the back of my pores! About wool rugs, which I prefer for all but wet high traffic areas; our neighborhood vacuum salesman let us know that if you use a vacuum like a Dyson with ridiculously strong and fast beaters (the spinny brush part) you can damage wool and other natural fiber rugs, causing them to shed more and sometimes voiding the warranty. Our vacuum has two settings; we use the lower one for wool and the higher one for synthetic rugs and hard surfaces.

I have mainly wool rugs. I'm in Florida. I use my Dyson on them. But sometimes you have to look at the perspective of "thank God I have a roof over my head during this pandemic.". So every time I am vacuuming something in the house such as loading the dishwasher, etc -- anything I feel very blessed that I have the ability to do that person because the options suck.
@annesandstrommusic7538

Thank you for the wool rug segment. I had (had) a lovely wool rug in my living room. Expensive. Beautiful. Hand woven flat weave. Had. Past tense. I now have a synthetic flat weave that looks like a neutral kilim. Low care. Durable. Inexpensive. I love it. And even if the cats have a hairball moment, it cleans up like dream and looks brand new. So, I’d rather have a new looking easy care faux kilim than a ratty looking wool rug.

And it will all balance out. Because if your space is ever really done and it's perfect just the way you want it, you'll start wanting to move things around because you're now looking for a new adventure. When you get furniture that works all throughout, it's easy to make changes and it gives it a fresh new look. Just a thought.

"I collect vessels for sport."!! Love it. I have also loved my glass dining table for years BECAUSE I could clean it with Windex. Having said, that your points are well-taken. I bought the glass table years ago when I lived in CT. I wanted a light-airy table in the dining area. I juxtaposed the table with inherited cherry chairs (the cherry table was in the dining room with Ghost chairs). When I moved to FL, I gave away all the cherry furniture. The glass table is too much of a good thing in my new, three sets of sliders room, especially with the Ghost chairs. So, I'm looking for a wood table but want something old or truly distressed that I don't have to worry about. You are spot on that a tray is needed when styling the glass. Love your sense of humor.

I once stayed at an Airbnb that had the perfect solution with a rainfall shower head: they had a normal regular sized shower head + the rainfall farther back. You could use one or the other or both at the same time! Of course, that's twice the fixture and plumbing cost.

I wear a shower cap when I don't want to wash my hair in the shower. I have a 3-tiered coffee table. The top 2 tiers are glass which ate set in the oval wood surrounding. The bottom tier is all wood. I love caring for my coffee table; it is beautiful and houses my well-chosen decor items. 😀 There are beautiful vases to be found at places such as World Market. I have two large that are afrocentric in style.

I completely agree on all the critiques about the rainfall shower, except for the handheld unit. My handheld shower is positioned on a tall grab bar, so we’re able to adjust it to get the same spray pattern as a traditional shower. So I’m able to use either the handheld or rainfall head depending on my mood.

Re: Rainshower head -- yes yes yes to what you said! I'm one of those people you describe who like to do my washing in separate parts -- e.g., wash my hair, condition it, then leave conditioner to be absorbed in while I wash my body, then rinse. I don't want a shower head that doesn't let me do that! (I have other separate washing routines also) p.s. badminton inside! That's an excellent idea!

I am really shocked to find out that wool rugs have this big shedding problem because I have been buying hand knotted Persian rugs for the last 35 years, and shedding has never been an issue. I found these rugs to be not only beautiful but very easy to clean and maintain as they repel stains more effectively than those cheap nylon or acrylic rugs. I am wondering if the rugs that people purchase these days on crate and barrel, pottery barn, etc. are obviously machine made and not as well-made as the ones I have, and that’s why they shed.
@sarahwags5897
@sarahwags5897 3 года назад
Same! I have one I bought and a couple that were gifts or handed down (all handmade) and have never had this issue so I’d guess it’s part of the machine made ones.
@rosezingleman5007
@rosezingleman5007 3 года назад
@@sarahwags5897 It’s the age too. The shedding is self-limiting. If it’s an older rug, its shedding days are likely over. ;-)

Apparently some machine-made tufted wool rugs are not of high quality and may shed. Here’s a good article about how to select a quality rug. rugchick.com/buying-rugs-tips-for-the-nervous-rug-shopper/

I have two hand knotted wool rugs that do not shed at all. But I have also had a machine knotted wool rug that shed all 7 years that I used it. Warning though... Wool rugs hold a lot of dust, if you buy a vintage one, vacuum it several times in the garage before bringing it into the house. And then several days in a row after that. I have dust allergies and did not think it through and almost sent myself to the hospital 🤧.

I love these videos critiquing the functionality of popular trends. Is it practical? is the question the salesperson cant, or wont, help us with. More of these please Kiva. BTW I continue to love your gold-and-non-black fashion style! Wool cut-pile rugs/carpet: you can get a preview of the shedding when you examine the item in store. you grasp the ends of the tufts of pile firmly with your fingers and you draw your fingers across the pile. you rub your fingers back and forth, back and forth. shedding will happen right away, if its going to happen at all. Shedding is caused by rubbing/abrasion ie where you walk on it and also from vacuuming! yes dragging the vacuum head across the pile can cause shedding even as you suction up the fluff! don't use the "brushes" setting on the vacuum head, use the flat setting. the good news is that the more you vacuum, the faster your carpet will get through its shedding stage, and then it will stop shedding for good. Glass-top tables: there are even more reasons that Gumtree/Craigslist is groaning with glass top tables that owners can't wait to get rid of. > open glass edges on coffee tables are just waiting to be cracked by a collision with the vacuum cleaner. That happened to my aunt, sadly the coffee table was Italian with gold legs, hugely expensive. A timber table can always have a knock repaired, but glass? no >glass is COLD. I have a glass dining table and a glass desk. In the supercold winter we just had, i had to put thick runners on the edges of the tables to protect my wrists from the glass which felt cold as stone. Timber is so much warmer and cosier. (Though glass is delightfully cool on the hands in summer :)) > glass dining tables have legs which aren't attached like a normal timber table, which has lots of screws. So unless the glass table top is sitting in a full metal frame welded onto metal legs, glass dining tables can be surprisingly WOBBLY- even though they weigh So Much More than a timber table. If you are buying one, test the wobble factor by grabbing the glass edge with both hands and shaking the table top firmly in all 4 directions. Better to know sooner than later!

And if you slather some shaving cream on your body won’t it wash off before you even have a chance to use it? Things like body scrub will get diluted before they even reach your body. No more deep conditioning my hair in the shower either.

I feel like the luxury of a rainfall shower though is that you have it in addition to a mounted/adjustable showerhead on a vertical wall and it can be turned on and off independently by default. You use it exclusively to rinse everything once you're done or during the summer if you want to cool down for 1-2 minutes

I'm so happy I discovered you and the down to earth wisdom in this video. Let me add another thing to think about where glass tops are concerned. I have a coffee table with a glass top that I liked even though everything you said about them is soooo true- very high maintenance. Recently, when I rearranged my furniture in a way that better suited the room and how I use it, I discovered that the sun coming in the windows created a blinding reflection off of the coffee table that was so uncomfortable I couldn't be in the room- it actually made me feel nauseous. Yes, I could close the shades but that kind of defeated the purpose of the lovely light filled room, so I ended up switching tables with another room. I don't like it as much a the glass one in this space, but it works for the improved furniture arrangement. Just something to think about before buying that reflective glass topped table 🙄

Kiva what are your go to Apps that you use for home planning? Or useful shopping apps? Love ❤️ your practical tips ! You changed my whole perspective - Functional & Aesthetic- Dual Use - keeping things cohesive throughout your home in small ways without being Matchy Matchy , Buy Once Cry Once 🤣invest in the important things like your sofa .. choose a sofa that you can live in , have a unique piece of Art on Etsy! So your not buying pieces to “fill your space “ .. what is our style? Well Kiva has a video on that too - defining style terminology to be able to search terms in search engines - mid century modern side table … so so helpful.. I’m starting with a completely blank space in My new home 🏡 (literally a bed and shower curtain) so it can be overwhelming & tempting to “fill it up”- This was so long winded💨But Being intentional with our choices ! You are so talented

I have used spray and brush on sealers on rustic and textured items that have the "crumblies" going on. You can get it in a matte finish so it doesn't look shiny and lacquered. When redoing my house, one of the main concerns was how easy things would be to clean afterwards. I painted or sealed everything with textures that tended to catch dust and hair or make my dusting tools snag. This included wooded beams on my ceiling and the undersides of my cabinets, and an antique corroded brass floor lamp. Matte and satin polyurethane topcoats are brilliant! Cleaning is so much easier now.
