Er... hagwons aren't the only places to teach English in South Korea. You missed the public sectors: EPIK and GOE (my employer). There's also teaching English to adults. Secondly, some places require a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification, instead of TESOL. Make sure you check the requirements before applying to your certificate program and/or school. Lastly, it's illegal (at least on an E-2) to work multiple jobs at one time. So as a public school teacher here, I'm not allowed to then be a teacher at a hagwon after school for extra income. I'd get kicked out!
@MiKole86
@MiKole86 5 лет назад
Funny you say this. My next video is ALL ABOUT EDUCATION! I will go into EPIK, International school teaching, hagwons, etc. Any information (besides from what you wrote above) you think I should include? I’ve never worked for public schools here.

@@MiKole86 Awesome, can't wait! If there's time, one thing I didn't see a lot of when researching to come here is the foreign/Korean co-teacher relationship. I have 2 main co-teachers and 7 homeroom co-teachers and the dynamics between each of us are completely different. Some are very hands off and allow me to actually teach, while others only have me there to press the button on the computer and pronounce certain words. Some love for me to speak up and show my knowledge of the English language, and others get prefer you not say anything (even if they're completely wrong, which is a huge flaw/problem). Thankfully, the students are very smart and often know the correct way to say certain things. But the relationship with those kinds of co-teachers is a bit strained, if not strange. You kind of feel helpless. Anyway, love these videos!
@MiKole86

I taught English in Korea for 2.5 years, studied abroad in Korea for 6 months, I have a TESOL, a bachelor's, and an Associate degree. I just want something very part-time so I can get to know the nightlife and the area. If I can get a job at a university that would be great or an after school program that ends around 6pm.

@strawberryshortgirl2637
@strawberryshortgirl2637 3 года назад
You would need visa and need the business to sponsor your visa, it cost the business out of their pockets to sponsor your visa so they would rather have a fluent Korean who they don’t need to sponsor a visa for. Why would the sponsor someone who doesn’t known conversational Korean when there’s a bunch of Koreans to hire. Not only that, when companies sponsor a visa, they want to be very careful. If a person gets a sponsored visa then commits a crime, steals a hat or whatever gets in a fight, that company will also get in trouble and have to pay a fine. Which is why it’s not as easy to get a visa since companies don’t like risk. Also in Korean law it is said that a Korean will be chosen over an foreigner. If the job cannot be done by a Korean, then a foreigner can get the job which is why so many foreigners are either English teacher, in entertainment or have highly professional jobs because they can other work that a Korean can’t really do. Like Koreans can’t pretend to be fake foreigners in entertainment so they hire a foreigner to show perspective.

What about technical jobs/skills? Web/tech/etc? Years ago moderate web skills (HTML) could get you a visa in some countries. I wonder how flooded the market is and what kind of skills they would want from outside tech employees.. In the US particularly the west coast, even a year of tech training can land you a 6 figure job because the shortage of skilled workers. Does Korea have a “startup visa” like Japan? If I remember correctly Japan has one where you can come in with a bucket of money under a business Visa, and then another for like 6 months or something then you create a company with a native and your visa changes... something like that..

There are investment visas available in Korea. The amount of money needed is absurdly high, if I remember correctly. Korea is not really interested in foreign owned businesses and seems to make it as hard as they possibly can for non-Koreans to run businesses.

I'd like to know if perhaps it is possible to work at a gym as a foreigner (be it a PT or simply an assistant at the gym) Thank you for the video btw, super useful info! Great to hear one is actually able to work at Korean Airline, but just got me questioning about their requirements besides knowing English (more like appearance wise requirements), because I know a lot of companies require specific very strict features, be it a certain minimum of height, weight, etc. Do you know about that? Keep up the awesome content Mike! ♡

Id love to know more about nursing! I'm a german geriatric nurse and work in a hospital now as a regular nurse. I think its especially hard because the german education is so different that nothing seems to be okay over there. Also I'm not a native english speaker so I cant apply to plenty of jobs such as teaching english. I'd also like more in general about jobs for people that do not come from an english speaking country

Hey man, not sure if you're still seeing these comments but I was wondering, as someone not from a country where English is the native language, I assume I am not eligible for that teaching visa? I mean, I am native-fluent in the language because I've learned and been educated in it my whole life. I am about to finish my bachelors degree in Economics and Management, and I often wonder 'is it possible for me to get an entry-level job for my degree in Korea?'
