I wanted to pass on a couple of tips that are working for me. you kind of covered them in step 3 and 4. build a foundation. I do not have a practice partner, so I have been dinking on a wall with a white line at 34 inches. sounds funny, but you do what you have. I am older, 70 . first, I saw a lot of improvement . By watching the ball into my paddle, I used to look at the net or players when hitting it. It's not so good. second, when you use a wall or plywood with a line, my target is 12 inches above the line. A wall lets you see the height of the ball above the line. Also, I noticed an improvement when squating down about 6 inches. you covered that,I am just wording it differently. this may help some older players.

Great Vid Jordan. As always you continue to have the most relevant, well detailed videos in the PB industry. A side bar to proper dinking is patience. I talk to a lot of people that say they don’t like dinking for very long. I think this is a lack dinking confidence. Personally I’d dink all day long if I had too. It slows my came down to where I see more opportunities to go on the offensive in a more calculated better timed manner. We’ll done Jordan. You are still my Pickleball Jesus. Good luck with your new change. U have an army of fans to help support your move!!

Generally when you are hitting harder (drives, punch volleys, etc), you should have a slightly tighter grip pressure. For soft shots like dinks and resets, you will have a light grip pressure.

How do I force my opponents to have a low contact point when they have a wide range (tall with long limbs)?
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball Год назад
That’s going to be tough, but it’s always doable as you improve your dinks. Dinking more cross court and also outside their left and right foot, and also to the middle of the court are the only ways to force low contacts on taller players. Keep working on it!

As always, another very good and clear video. So glad to see camera angles and editing are as good as they've always been. I hope things are going well for you in AZ. BTW, what paddle is that? Looking forward to more videos.

@@BrionesPickleball how do you feel about the Poach Infinity? I just saw a review that said it's great for touch and control while giving up a little on power. One commenter said he loves his Poach Infinity for the control and resolved the less power issue by adding a little lead tape. I've only owned 1 paddle, the Z5, so I have nothing to compare it to because I've never used another paddle. I find that often it sends the ball flying without my having exerted all that much swing. And so I'm wondering if a better paddle will help improve my game and help with control and finesse, like 3rd drop shot and dinking which are weaker points for me. I'm a 3.5 player but know nothing about paddles and feeling overwhelmed about what to buy because there are so many opinions. Any advice would be appreciated.

Jordan, I have a question. For the forehand push dink, do you ever advise using slice vs topspin? I find myself exclusively using topspin on the forehand. On the backhand, I mix it up with push slice dinks and doublehand topspin. Thoughts?
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Yes, I do all of them. Typically when dinking cross court, I will hit more topspin or slice, as you have more margin for error cross court. When dinking straight on, it’s usually better to hit more of a “lift” dink, so that you don’t pop up the ball.
@exploringtheologychannel1697
@exploringtheologychannel1697 2 года назад
@@BrionesPickleball Super helpful thank you. Interesting. I guess I will have to work on my slice push forehand dink. Are you just mixing it up to add additional pressure? Or is there a time where a slice push is better than a forehand topspin push?

@Alan_Kirby
@Alan_Kirby 2 года назад
Nice video Jordan. When dinking it better to “lift” the ball, as opposed to giving it more of a pop? I found that lifting can give me better height control but I’m not sure if it’s the correct technique. I believe you had a video way back that showed how to “catch” the ball while practicing hitting straight in the air, which I found useful in a lifting hit. Also just a comment, during doubles play, when my partner is doing the dinking, especially cross court, I’ve found it very important to track the ball with my paddle way out and in front. Besides being ready for a poach, tracking at such close range can be intimidating to the other side.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Not sure what you mean by “pop”, but due to the low contact point, you will more or less be “lifting” the ball on most dinks. All dinks at the NVZ are soft shots, so you definitely want to have a light grip pressure doing so.

@@BrionesPickleball Why the MX over the EX? Also why thinner vs a thicker paddle?
@BrionesPickleball

MX has a longer handle. Great for ex-tennis players or anyone who likes to hit with two hands on the backhand side. For the pursuit, the thinner model has much more power, as I thought the thicker model was just a little bit too soft.

Congrats on the new channel spot. I noticed you did not talk about the angle of the face upon impact. I've watched a ton of tournament play and some really open the face almost like hitting a sand wedge in golf. Any ideas on face angle? Also i'm using a "ping pong" grip and I realize that is not the norm. I watch JW Johnson and see his face is really open. Callen Dawson has the "choke grip" as do a few others. I just ordered the new Diadem Icon as part of my paddle bag to see if it helps with my dink game.
@BrionesPickleball
@BrionesPickleball 2 года назад
Awesome! Paddle angle is very important. For any dink, you’re going to want to make sure it’s pretty open, as you are trying to get that ball up and over the net. I’ll definitely mention this in a future video!
