You are right - maximum improvement. I challenged myself to 10 days in a row for 10 minutes. Doesn't sound like much, but it really translates to my game on the court. I'm loving it so much, I'm now doing 15 minutes! Thanks for all your videos on wall drills🤩
What I've always loved about your videos and I recommend them to people all of the time is that you focus on a specific drill and then explain it so clearly while also providing great camera angles to show what you're doing. And they all feel actionable.
@@BrionesPickleballWhen I dink, the ball does not bounce back directly at me like it is supposed to. Can you make a video of you going step by step on how to dink it? Like can you show us the positioning of your legs SLOWLY?
It definitely has improved my reaction time ( especially being 66 years old , lol ), my brain process so much faster, sending signals to the hands and legs that the guys are inviting me to play making up the team.. Thank you Jordan.
Thanks Jordan. I love these kinds of videos, there are times I don't feel like group play and need to work on the basics. I've been out for 2 months with a back injury and now that I'm healed I must begin all over getting back in shape physically and start working on my game basics again. Look forward to your upcoming drills. Thank you..
I just did 2 days of wall drills and my hands hurt. I know I need to relax my grip. Also, it takes all my brain power to focus when doing wall volleys. So watching you do the drills and talking at the same time is impressive!
Jordan, I always enjoy your videos and I've learned a lot from them. When I practice dinks against the wall, I try to make sure the ball is descending as it hits the line on the wall I am pretending is the net. This is fairly easy to do while drinking at the wall, and I think it more closely mimics what I am trying to accomplish than just hitting the ball above a line on the wall. When I practice volleying against a wall, I try to alternate between hitting shots like you are hitting in this video and hitting shots that start to descend before hitting the wall. Once again, I think this more closely mimics what I am trying to accomplish than just hitting the ball above a line.
Hi, I can't find the training drills # 2 and 3 that you mention in this drill. I love your drills but need drills for backhands, forehands, overheads etc.
Jordan these drills are awesome, I play alot of singles and these videos have really improved my game, thanks. Wish I could take some lessons from you !!!
Thanks Jordan! Awesome vid. Now to find a brick wall, cuz the drywall I’m surrounded with has people on the other side that don’t seem to appreciate my Pickleball dedication. 🤣
Informative! Good to have a planned workout drill rather than just banging away at a wall with no objective. Will see if the park district I attend will tape a wall for those wanting practice, especially on days/times when there are not enough folks around to play.
I just did these drills, 1st half 10min and 2nd half 3min , what a workout, definitely need to keep working on my back hand double tap. Thank you for this. Makes being solo easier
Coming from Paddleball my whole life. I enjoy the wall drill lol. I found Pickleball very easy to get right into it. Im totally hooked. Thanks for all your pointers. Im sharing it on the courts with others. 👍
The hardest part for me on wall drills is getting the tape straight on the wall. Im jealous at how straight your tape is.. How long did it take you to perfect this?
Hi Jordan. I just put up some tape on our gym wall and did yhe first 2 drills. Can't wait to see how good I can do the advanced drill where you have to bounce the ball as well. I think it will be a good measurement of where I am on the 3.5 spectrum.
I have played on several pickleball courts. I started playing at our local YMCA and the color of the court, the wall, the ball and the lighting of the court make it a little more difficult to play. Where I play at our local church the color of the floor and the color of the ball makes it hard to tell if the ball is in or out. The Kingdom pickleball court looks like the ideal place to play. The environment looks like a lot of effort went into the planning of the court and its environment. Looking forward to the next video. Thank you Ben
Wouldn't it be important to have a second upper tape line on the wall about 12 inches above the net height line to practice dinks and resets? And, while the volley practice drill may help develop eye-hand reflex skills, it appears to reinforce hitting up to your opponents vs. lateral or down.
You can do that if you want. No, volleying on the wall like this does not reinforce pop ups. If you can control the ball against the wall like this, then you can control the height of any ball.
Great video. Enjoy all your tips. On the volley, when you talk about keeping your focal point on the wall is that playing as well when you volley? Or should you follow the ball to the paddle on volleys?
The wall That I use has the small bricks and with the mortar in between the blocks the ball often bounces off the wall in different ways. But I have been doing your drill for some time now. Thank you for your drills. You should try it on an uneven surface for a challenge. Thank you
Another really good drill but that is very hard is a modified version of the double touch drill. You start on the forehand side and hit it to your backhand. On the back hand touch instead of hitting it straight vertically for the backhand double touch you chip the ball back across your body to the forehand side before hitting the forehand volley at the wall to the backhand. I find this drill really helps with backhand resets and also creating space for the forehand around the right hip area where most people get jammed up in hands battles and on forehand resets. It’s definitely a hard drill but well worth the effort.
Another great video Jordan! I have a general question on grip changes within a point. Is it normal for a player to change from continental to eastern if I decide to drive the 3rd shot instead of dropping? Or is it better to just drive with a continental grip instead so I don't have to change?
I love this video! I have a concern about though- I see your feeding the balls on the volleys high up on the wall. I know from experience w/ drilling on the wall if you do it straight ahead it comes back way to fast. However, in a game if I was to feed the ball that high like that wouldnt that be an opportunity for my opponent to slam the ball back?
Yes. It’s all about technique and control. You can also adjust and get closer to the wall and hit it closer to the line. This was just an example. So adjust accordingly.
For the volley drills, why are you hitting up so high? Isn't that a bad habit to instill? Cause you wanna volley straight forward or downward if you have the angle, right?
Great video, Jordan! Is it okay to do these drills with a sponge ball (inside my home), or would that not be as effective in terms of touch, etc.? Thanks.
I thank you for your videos they have help me. I am watching you play a game on you tube and I have a tip for you. I have learned that when a player is retuning the ball from on side of the court do not hit the ball to the other side hit the ball to where he is. He is going to the center of the court and thinks that you are going to hit the ball to the other side. It is hard to change direction so hit the ball behind him not in front of him in the direction he is going. What do you think Ben
Hey Jordan, this is so helpful as someone who tends to show up to open play settings where everyone just wants to play and not necessarily work on their game. As a former tennis player, what do you find are the biggest habits I may need to change first?
Two great videos for pickleball. Hand coordination gained by juggling ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BaXWuA_mxe0.html and how to practice focusing on the ball ru-vid.comO1egKCoZ3RM
Something unusual happen in playing pickleball today. On the serve the ball hit just past the kitchen and I hit the ball back after it bounced. Did I need to let my team mate hit the ball or could I hit the ball. Does it make any difference who returns the serve. Thank you for you input. Ben
Why focus your eyes straight ahead. I get not tracking the ball entirely to the paddle face but why not look at the ball much at all but instead looking at the wall?
One thing I've also added to the wall drill is a reset shot. I'd hit either one or twice real hard and then do a reset. Found out I was reaching for the reset shot too much, which usually lands in the net. Now I've had success just resetting closer to my body just from this added drill.
Great Video! I'm Kelly from SpoxFit, which mostly focuses on sports equipment. Do you have interest to test our new released pickleball paddles? We are happy to send you a free sample as a test if you wish. Looking forward to your reply!
I have developed the skill of changing from my right hand to my left hand for ball that are far to my left that I am unable to reach with my right hand. I do wall drill where I change hands. It has come handy in games. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Thank you Ben
It’s All about technique and consistency, if you can’t volley the ball back to yourself off a wall, you won’t be able to volley it in a game. Don’t worry too much about where it “would” go for wall drills. When you do drills on the court, that’s when you should focus on where your balls are landing.
Thanks for the demo. I'm newbie and having a different time to keeping the ball lower when returning..either from the baseline transitional place or close by NVZ. Could you please post a demo for the newbies? Thanks.
