Sat down to share some information on things that I have learned after spending time in the Philippines. This is my 3rd time being here and I have some insight on the daily workings 😂👍🇺🇸🇵🇭.
*A thousand US Dollars per month sounds reasonable to me. I am getting ready to spend one full month in the Philippines with good chances that I might not be coming back to the United States. Reason? A pretty Filopina.* 😊
It’s not cheap there in the Philippines it’s so expensive there! cheap labor that I will agree. My expenses in California same amount went i came in the Philippines
That doesn’t make any sense. I live in Vancouver and my rent is $1,600 which is a lot more than the Philippines and similar to many places in California…….
@@aaronaround I have an account with TD Bank and use there app regularly. I can deposit checks, check account balance, check transaction history. Today I had a message stating that TD Ameratraid and Schwab merged.
It depends on where you are based in the Philippines...if you are in Dumaguete which I think you visited, you might find a better value of your dollars there.
Travel isn't cheep no matter where you go. There are all these videos saying paradise is in all these places and chep to live. I live in America. Been all over and know paradise is not somewhere else. Have learned that no matter where i go, it's all the same place it just has a different name. And the people are people no matter where I go. They're all the same Doesn't matter what culture, language, lifestyle or anything else. People are the same all over the world. Stop kidding yourself. I'm comfortable, content and happy. And no one will take care of me as well as I do. If you're wise you'll find out the same. Make good choices and weigh out the consequences before making them and you won't go wrong.
Ya I hear you William. I agree with you a lot on that .. seems like people are the same in high tourist areas.... and yes of course you have to take care of yourself and happiness comes from within yea... thanks for the comment
Gotta be careful too not be shot dead in a US street for nothing, be one of an American mass murderer's victim, be stalked by an American serial rapist and killer, or be told to "go back to your country" at a visiting tourist's first day on American soil. Stupid
@@elisdayanikhodim because foreigner can not own in Philippines, it's not worth the risk. It can be a nice place to retire but it's still best to just rent not buy
DO NOT BRING CASH…!!!! The banks here in the Philippines will ONLY take CRISP $100.00 bills. If there is a crease or mark on the bill, they may take it, but at a SEVERLY discounted rate. Use ATM’s and avoid the brain damage…!!!
Thats correct , but, i had a damaged bill, (avoid street money changers if yu can) I went to Fisher Mall Quezon City, after the bank refused it, they exchanged ,also gave me exact amount the bank would have.
This boy, if his expenses are about the same in the Philippines as wherever the hell he lives in the states that's because of his lifestyle. Number one she needs to eat at home and eat more vegetables so he can exercise and work some of that fat off along with walking. The problem is with him and his lies is that he brought these Western European ways to another country.
Well Sir you are Exactly Correct. It’s not cheap in the Philippines. It’s the same in Thailand. If you eat and live the western lifestyle you are really going to pay ! Be Advised !
Philippine National Government and Local Government are rubbish. Corrupt down to the core. Everything is expensive in major cities and most people are living in extremely poor conditions. Gas is a hood examplr compared to Malaysia it's three times the prices same with food and other products huge unreasonable taxes.
@@keithtaylor8898 there is absolutely nothing wrong with his lifestyle. He’s a tourist & getting acclimated to the Philippine culture & is giving us excellent tips or free info so we will be aware.
@@aaronaround I disagree with Ron and agree 100 percent with you. Nothing against Ron comment but it just goes to show there is different reasons for everyone. I will be retiring in the Philippines in about 2 years. I have been retired here in the United States for 10 years. When I say retired I don't mean retirement age I just mean my money is right where for the last 10 years i never needed a job and never will. I live very good here but I always wanted to live somewhere else as I get older. So long story short number one reason for me looking at the Philippines is because things are cheaper I want to ensure my money is strong anywhere I go. So thank you for this video its very informative.
He's probably talking about the cost on traveling perspective. Cause if you are retiring here you need to consider the things that you need to buy that in a long term stay, would save you a lot of money. On traveling though it still depends on a lot of things. Well ph is not on par with US or even in other Asian countries in terms of transportation, so you are paying a premium rate for grab. Bottom line, in ph metro traveling, if you want convinience you got to pay extra than usual. Else, you plan it and save . Thanks!
The "American" in you. You, as a traveler must adapt to the cultural difference of the countries visited and leave the American in you for a simple reason, to immerse yourself in theirs. As in many videos, it is said, have patience, and that's easy said but hard to do, simple you're no longer in the USA or any other developed country, and even in the developed country it is in your interest to display same. Great points spoken about, cost on airlines/hotels, taking currency instead of using ATMs but the lingering thought of losing it, seeing the country, why else would you be there....keep preaching your reason for traveling, and you will get a convert, good video but show the beauty of the Philippines in your upcoming vid's 💪😁👏👏
In the Philippines many small to midsize companies don't have websites because they cost money So they have a Facebook Business page instead because they are free
Websites with just a few pages for the essentials like location/opening hours and special sales do not cost a cent anymore. Every business owner needs to learn to design and maintain there simple website just like they have to learn to fill out a tax form. It's absolute incredible how dumb and willfullness ignorant and technical illiterate small business owners are.
Philippines is expensive period. Filipinos have patience because they have no choice. Everything in the Philippines is slow. They are not used to being fast because they're not busy like foreign countries. Make sure you tell them Philippines is dusty rainy muddy so wear rain shoes plus potholes everywhere. Filipino nationals don't travel in the Philippines because ride fares are expensive they can't afford it.
What? I live in The Philippines. All my bills, including rent, electric, vehicle payments come to less than $450/month. Add another $200 for groceries. Don't know what your doing but you're doing it wrong.
yea I know you can do it cheaper.. this is to the average guy coming to the big cities... I think at least 1000 is fair for a major city... I know it can be much cheaper but that won't be for the average person
Do you live in the city or province. How much is your health insurance? Everyone talks like there’s only budget in the Philippines. That’s like comparing cost of living in New York to small town Mississippi…..
I have been visiting the Philippines twice a year for over ten years. I take jeepneys in Cities and buses to go long distances. I drink delicious Filipino coffee for about 50 pesos. I prefer to buy and cook my own food but if I do eat out I prefer the food malls in shopping centres which has good inexpensive food. My wife has a home in the Philippines and I would live well on about €100 a week
Eating out, if you compare portion size is double or triple the price i pay in Europe. 120 pesos for maybe 50g or meat is now normal and absolute insane. Only local veggies are affordable but because nothing is harvested in a modern way, even they are at best compareable to what i pay in Germany (where i can always find special sales). I honestly are shocked, same goes for every kind of health related service, for humans or animals. I need 200 Euro a week, despite not eating out often
@@llothar68 wtf 100€ a week is insane enough, 200€ a week? Lmao you can easily live on 50€ a week if you live alone in my country 100€ a week is not cheap at all

Philippines Can be Dirt Cheap if you live like a Filipino. Don't come to the Philippines and bring your country with you. Do you want to eat dried fish and rice for dinner? Not Me. My G.F. , her sister and myself live very comfortable on $1,200 to 1,500 per month. If you are traveling, living in Hotel Rooms, taking Taxis, and eating every meal out It will cost you much more. Filipinos are very Polite. The best advice I can give is Be patent and Polite. Obey the Laws, Respect the people and the the country. If you just do these few simple things, You will be treated very well and you will enjoy the Philippines.
I bring cash, but only as backup and emergencies. Most experienced travelers will open a Charles Schwab account - they reimburse all ATM fees at the end of month.
But eventually, once they learn of international residence, you will be cancelled. Think of all the money Schwabb will lose. Temporary yeah, long term, not so much.
I never viewed it as relaxed. I viewed it as inefficient. Everywhere u go there is a long ass line up and traffic is horrible because of overpopulation and roads just arent constructed efficiently. I think you would have to live outside of the city to get the relaxed vibe where population is smaller.
I love the Philippines! But if and when you do business, do not pay up front, do not deal with anyone that has no references, not even a lawyer. I hired a lawyer who, once they got paid, ghosted me during trial! Only in Philippines
The thing is , if you live like a Filipino most of the time, you can live much cheaper than on the west.... theres coffee place where you'll pay 35cents or Starbucks where you'll pay 5dollars
Oh so very true. Go to the small local sari sari store to get some supplies, and a coffee. Eat at the street food vendors (food is almost always great). Buy some fresh fruit at the local markets. Travel on busses and jeepneys, even trike.
In the Philippines, we embody too much 'patience is virtue' but, I think this is what made us to appreciate everything we have especially even the smallest things.
That virtue is fine in personal interactions with others. Unfortunately its not great in all of society. But I look forward to the slower pace to retire too. But I don't look forward to long lines. 😂 LoL right.
@@kendethstryke3020 yep, unfortunately can't do anything about it since we're still inly a developing country unlike in the US, things here aren't just 1 click, almost everything is still done manually & systems are just faced with unnecessary complaints instead of compliance by the locals that's why it's quite chaotic here, only in places like bgc, makati & filinvest were systematic & convenient due to developments in those places
@@nightparalysiscatdemon well not to criticize but yeah. They do cater to foreign and money interests. That tech and infrastructure needs to be everywhere. Not sure why Malaysia gets that kind of investment but not the Philippines. I mean I get it with Indonesia, that's a military dictatorship. But I do look forward to time in the PI. Philippinos are just some of the nicest folks.
@@kendethstryke3020 i agree, sadly, many filipinos doesn't fully understand the concept of "infrastructures for development/economy boost" they mainly thought that infrastructures are just mainly roads & bridges, I hope my fellows could be educated about it so they would support it instead of always criticizing the infra projects.
single person about 1000 to 1500 hundred per month. Couple or with kids 1500 to 2000 thousand living simply. You want more western lifestyle, 2500 to 3000 thousand. Bottom line. This includes from nice apartment, maid/cook, medical/dental, transport, food and electric and water bill and private school.
The one thing that is quite shocking is the level of peoples trying to scam you, it’s like a way of life. I have a Filipina partner and it’s so frustrating..that not only she has the same experience but if you throw myself into the question it’s 3 times the problem.
The U.S. has the highest level of scammers admit it or not. They scam you big time, they just do it with finnesse. In the Philippines it's just a penny.
you can be scammed here in the philippines if you're not observant or sensitive enough to see the loopholes on what they're offering particularly online.if you believe for example,on buying P148-P153 smartphones in one of the leading online shopping platform here, (which they claimed they were constantly being hacked and the average cheapest phones here were priced up to P1,000+)then it's up to you.being married to a filipina,i think you should know that's there's a popular saying here that says "there's no deceitful/ deceiver if there's no willing victim/ willing to be fooled.or walang manloloko kung walng magpapaloko. especially, during and after covid pandemic where many people lost their jobs.a recent law had already been passed requiring for a compulsory registration of sim cards but still will take a while to be implemented.
Compared to the USA the number of scams are much lower. You don't realize it because US americans are the most dumb homo sapiens when it comes to handling money so they don't know how deep in the scam world they are.
Having lived and extensively traveled in all of these places, including Burma(Myanmar), these rankings look all out of whack to me. Post what "Crime Index Ranking" numbers come from please.
@@jameshepburn4631 Read the replies. I mentioned it there.. These are for countries as a whole. Though here in PH, crime is much more concentrated in Manila. But as you go outside of Manila, it gets much safer.
I disagree with you completely. If you compare apple to apple you will find out that lifestyle cost in the Philippines is much cheaper. For example, you say you are a traveler. It would be fare to compare the price of the airplane tickets, taxi, hotels, and food. You will pay lots of money just to travel around here in the US vise in the Philippines. You can do more in the Philippines with less.
oh yea for sure 100% I am just saying you are going to spend a lot more than you would expect... but no I agree with you on that 100% buutt there are times when it is pretty dam close but overalll yea cheaper all day in ph
My budget is going to be 2,000 so I'm good everything is so more expensive I can't live in Atlanta its 1400 to 1600 just rent.u need a minimum of 3,000 in usa
As soon as you leave the airport leave your American arrogant ways. Plus if your retirement in Philippines the best bank is Citibank without fees, however its a deep minimum Balance required. PayPal or western Union is always a better solution to send to yourself in Philippines definitely cheaper then ATMs also. Make sure your bank is aware of your travels too. Get it in writing too. BC they will shut you down over seas. Then your STUCK looking for other Americans for help. ( I had MANY Americans begging for help) Average every $20.00usd for 1000pesos Just an average, Philippines is definitely very Do it tomorrow vs now and youll learn real quick To be humble and patient. Remember vacations we take in the STATES we spend @ $5-10k and why not 250-500k PESOS anf have an amazing Vacation
He can afford to have western style living in the Philippines but not in his own country USA. This is one good reason why some expats come to the Philippines to retire. Its still cheaper to live here.. western style. If i retire in the Philippines . One big savings i will have is Property Tax of my house in the US.
yea I could afford to have in America as well... the thing is when you come to Asia you live the "western" lifestyle but really you're just living how you did back home.... but yea I am sure you could save a lot on the taxes 👍
Lol... You got to have $1,000 a month.. to eat at home and be a homebody..??; Well guess what here United States which right now is almost 2023 you can't even barely pay your rent for $1,000. I'd love to live in Philippines..👍 no disrespect to your video I actually appreciate you sharing what you did and thank you
yea no worries yes I hear you on wanting to live there but if you havent gone make sure when you visit you make it as long as possible to really see if you wanna live there 😂
It's not really that Filipino culture is more patient. It's that it's a siesta culture here...time moves much more slowly and often it's "Mañana Time." Service is so slow here and that's not going to change, so people simply have to wait and they're used to doing so.
DO NOT!!!! Bring more the. 10k pesos it's against the law to bring in more then that in pesos they can take it from you on arrival..!!! But u can bring up to 10k usd in any other currencies
Well, not all ex-pats are disabled VA or living on Social Security. I have a mansion next to Manny Pacquiao and my own private helicopter in my backyard, so we don’t count pesos.
Expert after 2 months in phil..and obviously Starbucks is empty coz smart people can buy nice good coffee elsewhere…1000 usd per month haha.u definitely don’t know where to eat nice and cheap👎👎👎👎
Extravagant lifestyles cost more money than a simple life. If you and your wife own a home then it's cheaper than paying someone else's monthly mortgage in rent. Paying $3 for a cup of coffee is more expensive than making your own at home.
I wanna sell my house and go rent a phillipina for a couple years before I die but idk the rates for a 20s skinny one to escort a 50s fat guy. Short of that I wonder if I could just live in a tiki hut and eat sea critters like do the $1 a day challenge
@@aaronaround Tarlac city is usually my homebase there, services usually is crap. Understand though I would never blame the workers. The fault lies with whoever trained them or the owners being too strict
Well sometimes, we are also upset if our order was not delivered on time. We are also upset to line up for just ordering food. Everything here is that you have to line up like ordering food, going to the toilet, line up for transportation, withdrawing money etc. But we know how to hold our temper. We don't show to people our disappointments, or if we are upset.
Since you are traveling to the Philippines, the assumption is that you want to experience the culture that is different from where you come from and we Filipinos take jeepneys, we hardly take a grab or uber unless you're working because our companies reimburse us for that.
I agree. I am and American and when my wife, myself and our kids go back to the Philippines unless we are going a long distance drive we take the trikes. When we are back in the Philippines we go to areas where there are very few if any tourists. We do not need western style places to stay. Far too many westerners go to the Philippines and try to bring western mindset. Other than our oldest son we prefer to eat street food or the small food joints on the side of the road.
I'm sick of this rat race in the U.S. I'm 26 and want to be a father and husband to a Filipina woman. I'm half Filpino myself. Do I really need to be 35 to register to be a permanent resident of The Phillipines or is there a way I can without trying to marry within a 30 day visit?
You know honestly I do not know information about stuff like that.. but I will say I do recommend trying to work as much as you can back home and save as much if you really are going to try and move 👍

Dude, how do you get started doing this? I've got to get out of the States but no one will go with me and... I don't want to be one of those people that are never heard from again, you know?
well first you gotta buy a ticket and then come.. then just make sure you call home and visit 😂👍... just gotta take the plunge and try to save as much money as you can
well if you can pass it as a backpack then no its free bug a larger duffle type bar will be but you usually get a personal item and a small carry on for free
well maybe start renting a fully furnished pad outside of Manila like in Cebu where you're closer to the beaches or the mountains.. rentals start at $300 per month for a fully furnished pad...then you can start stocking on meats or food and start cooking for yourmeals..this way you can avoid spending $20 per day on foods...you need to pay for electricity also like around $100-150 per month if you have aircon or A/C ..then maybe on weekends you can hit the beach.. pay entrance of $5 rent a hut for $10 also you can spend your day in the malls but avoid shopping though... you can also get a call center job easily here🤪😁
Yeah when I went to the Philippines I sent all my money to myselfe through Western Union. It worked vary well for me. You just have to have those 10 confirmation numbers with you to get your money. That's vary important!!!!!
Hey Trucker, I'm filipino I used to work in the Middle East and have done it several times. As far as I know it is Central Bank of Philippines regulation/rule to declare if you carry with you any foreign currency in excess of 10,000 USD or equivalent. You can clarify this matter through a Philippine Embassy or Consulate near you or through Central Bank of the Philippines(BSP) or Bureau of Customs websites.
Dude. Just go back to the US. If you want to live there, adjust to the culture. Not the culture adjusts to you. One month as a tourist, would have been the right amount of stay for you.
wow in Indiana huh? I never made it out there ... but yea at least it sounds better on the surface yea? you should go out for a long vacation first a couple few months if you can
