Is it true that the USMNT Manager salary needs to be equal to that of the USWNT? So hiring a high salary coach for the men's team implies a substantial rise for the women's manager no matter what.

@@gustavoalvarezmontero1545 I cannot tell you 100% because I'm just some dude. But the reporting coming from people who would know or be able to get that info from an inside source suggests that the equal pay mandates are not applied to coaches on any level. So no. They can pay as much as they are able/willing. But that only means so much when you're talking about a guy like Klopp who can get that money any time he wants.

Pep's contract is up next year. So realistically, it would not be wise to sign him 1 year before the WC. There will be little time for him to implement and scout the players he wants to fit his system. Klopp can start today.

@@alexz.8302 "time for him to implement and scout the players he wants to fit his system" What? This is not Citeh buying up whatever players Pep wants with blank checks to fit his system so he can play Pep-ball. USMNT has the players they have and that's it and if we are being serious, none of the current USMNT players are capable of playing Pep-ball. Because if there were any, they would be playing for Citeh. IF Pep or any coach/manager do sign up after Gregg is fired/resign which is not given, they are gonna be stuck with more or less same players plus/minus injuries for the WC2026.

@@harrynamkoong3361 Very wrong. We have a wide (not deep in terms of talent) roster pool and some players just won't fit his system. I doubt he's paying attention to the team now so he'll need to study each player for at least a few months. You also have to consider which coaching staff he'll be allowed to bring in. It'll be a whole shack up once the USMNT get a new coach and 1 year with no tournament before hand will hinder the progress. Pep cannot work miracles. He needs solid players and sorry but the USMNT isn't full of elite players. They're above average at best and Pep will need a good amount of time to restructure that shit show.

I cant see it being Klopp, hed want an insane amount of money, also i think if he takes a national job itll be Germany, i agree with you i still think Joachim Low (providing he still wants to manage) would be my choice, he was also Klinsmann's tactics guy with Germany in 2006, Klinsmann was never the same without his brilliant tactician, also brought through that brilliant young German squad that would eventually win the World Cup, i think Mauricio Pochettino would also be a decent choice (ignore what happened at Chelsea, that club's a mess right now from top to bottom) Poch has experience and works well with young players, really any of the names you mentioned would be an improvement on that bald fraud

If you are the US, pay the money. It is a wise investment. The US showing well at the 2026 World Cup is a gold mine. The MLS would benefit the most - get some of their billionaires to kick in. As far as Klopp wanting to coach in Germany. What's that all about? He left Dortmund in Germany to coach Liverpool in England. If anything, it appears that he doesn't want to coach in Germany.

@ortforshort7652 moving clubs is a whole different thing, frankly it made sense to go somewhere like Liverpool after Dortmund (apart from Bayern Munich, name me a bigger club job than Dortmund in Germany) he's a bit older now, and older managers are more likely to consider national jobs, and Klopp is German so the Germany job makes sense, even if he has to wait a bit (the guy said he's burned out at the moment, so will probably take a break for a bit) the US don't necessarily need a big, expensive manager, just somebody competent, with experience that can help guide a bunch of younger players, I think Tac named some good candidates, there are guys out there

I’d be cautious with big managers that are successful at big clubs. We have good talent but not great talent. We need to stop trying to copy Spain’s tiki taka style that takes away our best qualities (speed, athleticism, grit). The German style is what fits our player pool. Jurgan wasn’t our best manager but he’s been our most influential manager. He should be our Sporting Director if I’m being honest. Low would be my pick for the Manager position.

Thank you for this informative video. My thoughts are as follows: 1) Klopp should be the main target. If you're serious about swinging for the fences, you have to go after Klopp. He's available and he likes the US as a country. More importantly, for someone burned-out on European club football, the USMNT job would not be a 'grinding job' at all. Klopp is unique among managers in that he offers both a sharp tactical acumen and excellent motivational skills. This guy should be priority # 1. 2)MLS -based Managers. The two flavors of the month who are on everyone's lips are Nancy and Cherundolo. They've easily been the two most successful MLS coaches in the last few years and have some hardware to prove it. The only knock on both of them from my perspective is their failure to win the Concacaf Champion's League. In my view, winning this tournament is the ultimate performance measure for an MLS coach aspiring to become the USMNT manager because it shows his ability to get his team to succeed in a competitive, international tournament. These were winnable tournaments for both these teams and they both played poorly in their respective finals. I might be harsh in my assessment and know there could have been certain factors out of their control that weighed against them but I honestly believe they both had the squads to succeed. Therefore, these missed opportunities fall on the shoulders of the managers, which brings me to the main point of this section: If you're going to hire an MLS manager to succeed Berhalter based on results, it would have to be Brian Schmetzer. For the record, I'm not saying Schmetzer should be the hire, but he has the most accomplished resume of the current field of MLS managers: 2 USL Championships, 2 MLS Titles and 1 Concacaf Champion's League. No one else comes close when it comes to delivering results, and he's the only one on this list who has won an international tournament. Realistically, I don't think Schmetzer will be interviewed, but even if he is, I think he would be reluctant to leave his comfortable situation in Seattle. 3) Marcelo Gallardo. Probably the most successful club manager in Argentine history considering all his local and international trophies. It was all with one club, though. He reminds me of Boca's Carlos Bianchi who won every title a club manger could possibly imagine but who didn't do very well the few times he tried to coach elsewhere. I don't know much about Gallardo's stint in Saudi Arabia but it could be that his approach to football isn't a good fit there. However, I think USSF should interview him on the basis of his impressive record with River Plate in helping them win some very prestigious international tournaments. The language barrier can be easily overcome by hiring a fully bilingual assistant coach, such as Tab Ramos, who could serve as liaison between players and coach. 4)Herve Renard. This guy would be an interesting choice and a real wild card in my opinion. The Pros: He's won two African Cups and has shown the ability to build strong, balanced teams during his streaks of success. He prefers a possession-based attacking style that looks to exploit defensive lapses while maintaining tactical soundness in the back when his team loses possession. The Cons: His success is limited to African Teams in African tournaments and while he secured a 'Signature' win against Argentina in Qatar '22, his Moroccan and Saudi Arabian teams crashed out of their groups in Russia and Qatar respectively. Moreover, his hybrid system would take some time to learn, and if the federation were really interested in hiring someone like Renard, it would have been wiser to do it at the beginning of the cycle which would have allowed the players sufficient time to fully absorb his ideas. I think he's currently coaching the French women U-23 and will be available after the Olympics. It would be worthwhile to interview him. 5) Hugo Perez. It blows my mind that this man wasn't interviewed during the federation's so-called comprehensive search in the wake of Qatar. Perez absolutely ate 'Berhalter's lunch' with a very inferior team the two times the teams faced-off during the last qualifying cycle. The way Perez kept the very limited El Salvador competitive in World Cup Qualifying was a testament to his coaching ability. Christian Roldan's brother was his best player for goodness sake! Another advantage to hiring Perez involves his direct familiarity with the current team. He actually coached Christian Pulisic and some of the other players of the current squad during their U-15 days by playing a very attractive and attack-minded brand of football giving the players a lot of freedom to express themselves. Perez is available, obtainable, and affordable. I think he would jump at the chance to coach the team for whom he wore the jersey in a World Cup. Perez resigned as the US U-15 coach in 2014 under unclear circumstances but that took place under the prior administration and don't think it would serve as an impediment to his potential hiring. Crocker would be nuts not to interview him.

Klopp’s a non-starter. He retired because he wants to spend more time with his family. Really don’t see him taking this job. @@edwardnesslerg950 I would ordinarily agree. But Wilfrid Nancy is a legit manager. I am a Celtic fan (who opposes our own retread manager, Brendan Rogers), and I was screaming for the board to interview him. More important than not hiring an MLS manager, is not committing themselves to hiring an American manager. I'm not necessarily saying American managers don't possess the knowledge and skill to manage at high levels. In fact, I think there's unfair bias against Americans abroad. @@kentgrady9226 I'm a Columbus supporter from Ohio. Nancy has done great with the Crew, but idk how he would fair at the international level. He is similar to Berhalter, in the sense that he has a very specific "system" he likes to play. In international soccer, you don't have these players every day like at the club level. International soccer requires a different set of managerial skills. It's about taking the best players available in the pool and setting them up in a way to succeed with the limited amount of time they have together.
@kentgrady9226
@kentgrady9226 3 месяца назад
@@ZeroFamilon I certainly agree that Nancy is far from a slam dunk as an international manager. And the demands of club football are obviously different to those of international football. I could say the same about any club manager from any league in the world. The distinction has got nothing to do with MLS in particular. The best analogue I can draw is the distinction between college and professional American football. Nick Saban is arguably the best college coach ever - and certainly the best of the last 25 years. But he was a mediocre NFL coach. Conversely, Bill Walsh was a genius for the 49ers in the 1980s. But he couldn't coach college kids at Stanford worth a damn. I confess, I'm not a Crew fan and certainly don't watch enough of their matches to know all the specifics of his tactical philosophy. Based solely on results and what I have actually seen, the guy is indeed a hell of a manager. And his resume is certainly more impressive than was GGG's prior to his first appointment. And although my beloved Celtic won the league double and beat Rangers four times this past season, I would get rid of Rogers in a heartbeat if it meant bringing in Nancy, or Knudsen from Bodø Glimt. On the subject of the latter, I don't blame you if you've never heard of him. Not many people outside Norway follow Norwegian club football. but that guy can flat out run a squad. He's got an impressive collection of scalps - Celtic, AS Roma, Red Star, Legia Warsaw, Galatasaray... And he's doing it on a shoestring budget.

For me he is the best coach who corresponds the most to what the USSF wants and can currently have. He showed by leaving the Saudi Arabian national team for the French women's national team that he can reduce his salary (he reduced it by 20). So it is affordable from a salary point of view. He said he would like to win major titles with a national team on every continent. So coaching the USMNT could fit his personal plans. He has experience in coaching foreign national teams and taking them to the highest level they could hope for (Zambia and Ivory Coast). If his team underperforms he takes responsibility and does not blame the players or the referee (Morocco).

The Americans do not need to go that far, you do not need to implement the European style, the Argentians, far from being the best players on the continent, are also the best coaches, today the South American teams shine with their game thanks to the Argentians coaches. , then why do they want to go so far, Europe is a different style and I assure you from now on that if you go that far it will not work for you. They have the solution in front of them, they want to have a competitive team so they sign an Argentinian coach
@DerekLangdon

You’re way off the mark Danial….It’s not about coaching! The US does not have a domestic structure capable of supporting international football. Without home grown players the US will never be a football powerhouse!

@@DerekLangdon You know? It's not even your fault, Mexico has been deceiving you, your southern neighbors have made you believe that they are a soccer nation, that they eat soccer and their religion is soccer, Mexico sells very expensive players to American clubs. Everyone in South America knows that Mexico does not exist in soccer and that they are a farce. That is to say, Mexico sells them the idea that they are Argentina and that is not the case, Americans have to raise their standards and stop comparing themselves with Mexico, raise their rank or level by playing with better teams, if their competition is Mexico, USMNT are not going to improve a lot.

Absolutely bud! I bang on about this all the time. The US needs to concentrate on building a decent league structure, if they are really serious about being a association football nation…The World Cup is secondary to domestic football, and always has been..True football supporters want their local team to succeed more than anything else. This is just pie in the sky thinking. Is the US answer just to throw money at the problem? Most if not all top European managers won’t want to uproot their families and miss European competition. I mean football isn’t even in the top three sports in the US. Success at MLS level means nothing, look at Bruce Arena. People always want to blame the coach first instead of the players.

@@DerekLangdon Unfortunately, the MLS will not change. They are businesses that share TV money. If you get relegated you get much less money. They want their players and coaches to represent the US, not players in foreign leagues. It is sad, but it is the truth. In other countries if you only want TV money and do not care if you win games, you get relegated to a division with very little TV money. Sharpens ones focus.
