I have never seen anyone hit the nail on the head as well as you do. I feel like 99% of fitness content out there is incredibly tunneled, focusing ONLY on one aspect of health -- be it nutrition, muscle growth, cardio, metabolism, fasting, etc. -- and completely disregard everything else related to that one aspect. Abby truly advocates for health as a LIFESTYLE, which encompasses so many facets that people can't keep track of -- and honestly shouldn't keep track of. And while a lot of fitness influencers claim to use science to back up their facts, they often isolate scientific facts or studies, while Abby includes the entire scientific process and analyzes multiple aspects of scientific studies to make sure they're accurate.

That perspective on decision fatigue is something I needed to hear. I live with my dad and we have very different shopping habits and I find myself eating more junk food because it's on the table right in front of me and easy. At the end of the day, I forget I have veggies and hummus in the fridge when a bag of chips is the first thing I see in the kitchen.

That last myth got me to me man. Its literally me I struggle with that bad mentality sometimes & I try so hard to change that & have more faith in myself but I still have my moments some days. I have lost weight don't get me wrong but not in the way I wanted. I still have stubborn fat & I feel like my skin has become loose & that really makes me feel really insecure. As of right now I'm struggle to balance work & working out but I just keep falling off track & its making me feel more & more discouraged & disappointed in myself. P.s. sorry for my long rant that probably nobody even wants to know about 😅. Btw absolutely love the video Abby.

For myself personally I find it easier to meal prep that way I only worry about what I will be eating for one day then I will meal prep for Monday-Friday which is my work week and then Saturday I just stick to my diet and Sunday is my cheat day. I struggle with a eating disorder so it helps me sometimes I don’t eat all my food which is okay I can only try my best, I’ve gone from thinking about food and being scared of certain foods 24/7 7 days a week to thinking about food for only one day and thinking of it when I eat I’ve improved a lot although I am still scared of a lot of foods cheese being the main one. I’ve over come a lot and your videos really do help thanks for coming to my ted talk

I've been struggling with working out at home right now. For me it was so much easier because all I had to force myself to do was get in the car. I always had my gym bag packed and once I was already there I didn't have to bargain with myself because I was already there so I might as well just work out. At home I have to convince myself to out on the workout clothes and move my rug and pick a workout video and then do another. I also much prefer weight training, which is just not totally possible right now.

I use to feel the same way that my husband was trying to keep me fat 🤣 by bring cookies, cake, icecream etc. In our home and I would give him a piece of my mind. Lol!! Well, I started following his workouts and food routine that included all those sweets just to see if it would work for me. Well, I'm 40 lbs lighter 🙂 with 50 more pounds to go. I don't eat the portion sizes he eats, but I have learned to eat smaller portions and he wasn't trying to sabotage my weightloss. Lol!! Sorry babe!

Hey Abby, as a medical student I believe the intestinal absorption of macronutrients is also quite variable from individual to individual, and that could also explain why some people seem to eat their whole weight in food and not actually get fat (a lot of what they ingest ends up being excreted in the faeces). I happen to know a lot of people who are pretty sedentary and yet extremely skinny, so I don't think that's mostly due to the calories they burn as you say in the video (I hope I didn't misinterpret it 😅). However, it's important to emphasize that this is also not as good as it may seem, since these people have a lot more trouble getting the nutrients they need from food and also tend to have a poor diet since they don't get fat anyways.

Whenever I start thinking I can't do something, for example, recently I've been writing two essays along with falling behind on schoolwork, I go for a walk and have a talk with my dad, and have a cup of tea. I've also recently realized that I'm in a better head space when my room is clean and devoid of distraction, and when I have a routine for going to bed and getting up in the morning. Especially in a time like this, having a routine has helped me feel more comfortable. The quality of my work has gotten much better, one of my teachers said that I had one of the best projects he's marked, and I felt giddy and ready to take on whatever other work I had. You can prove it to yourself that you can do it if you set small goals.

Quick question-oriented journaling helps my self esteem. It’s not a miracle but I am the most unmotivated when I feel bad about myself and everything seems to suck so realizing that things / me aren’t as bad as it seems helps me with believing in myself. ^^ There are books for this like the 5 minute journal or apps like grid diary but it can be easily done in your paper or digital calendar, on a piece of paper or just your mind. Examples of what I ask myself every morning: Name 3 things that make you happy, name three things you love about yourself. And in the evening: name three awesome things that happened today and three things that have you done today to get closer to your goals. Even on what looks like bad days I always can find something small, like how good breakfast tasted or the beautiful weather or the glass of water I drank instead of soda or how I love my eyes or even just the fingernail on my left pinky or my stomach because it digests my yummy food or my legs because they carried me around. For weight loss you could maybe ask yourself: name three reasons to eat healthy today or three reasons to move your body today or I am proud of myself because I did these three weight-loss related things or three things I‘m looking forward to when I reached my goal etc. Given that asking yourself a few questions takes like 3 minutes a day and you could even do it just inside your head if you feel lazy, it actually can do quite an impact in your mindset. It may take a while to find the right questions and words that work for you but just toss the ones out you don‘t like and don‘t try to overdo it with 10+ questions because at least my lazy mind will just avoid doing it altogether if it feels like a lot of work. :D

The biggest mistake I made when I was starting out was doing the same routine throughout the whole month and not taking my cycle into consideration. Once I realised how much stronger I am after my period and how much more rest I need before it, my progress went through the roof. Rn I'm using Bellabeat app for my workout plans because they are actually designed based on my period and the goals I put in and I love them.

Sometimes I'll put on my gym clothes, drink pre-workout and stand facing the mirror ready for a warm-up, see all the fat on my arms, my hip dips, and walk right out of the room to go eat to feel better. Then crawl into bed. 🤣

Also, people who care about you sometimes want you to be with them, they don't want you to eat a salad while they are eating pizza. Because they will feel guilty by eating "bad" food and you are not on their side. No shame no hate, but sometimes your friends or family are just your biggest distractions. But I agreed with Abby about we need to make any decisions by ourselves.

The decisions that a Judges makes are life-changing to the person, I don't think it is comparable to making food decisions. A judge can take a person's liberty, sentence someone to death etc.

Honestly I think like she's saying over planning is just stress AND energy draining. Sometimes it's just easier to try being mindful and focusing on ur hunger sensor/stomach when u start to get hungry (not when ur starving) that's when u look throughout ur kitchen and make the best decision for what u can eat in that moment. I have anxiety and that sometimes helps so I don't start over thinking therefore over planning and get stressed about food which u really shouldnt get too stressed about. However idk how to work out and I dont really and ik I probably should. :/
