The Ultimate Practical Guide To Japanese Wisdom: 1421948574585.gumroad.com/l/l...
What is SHINTO(神道)? SHINTO is a Japanese indigenous religion, more of a philosophy of life that brings harmonious living. SHINTO literary means, Way (道) of God (神).
When it comes to Japanese religion, you may think of Buddhism. However, the most unique aspect of the Japanese way of life is deeply rooted in SHINTO, tracing back from Jyomon period 14,000 BC - 300BC. There is no Dogma, no founder. It is based on the belief that gods are in nature.
We connect to the god through our seasonal and daily rituals for purification. SHINTO, a way of life is open to anyone.

I have no real religion, just a nature-based spiritual belief (some of my friends call me "pagan," my Catholic mother called me "heathen"). I moved to Japan and lived there for three years. Both spiritually and mentally, I felt so much more at home there. Is that strange for a foreigner to say? I miss living in Japan. I'd like to move back someday.

I am still learning many Japanese philosophies. Many times there are such beautiful revelations such as, "Nature is the way to connect to our higher selves..." And learning that Buddhism and Shinto have co-existed peacefully for over 1500 years is wonderfully reassuring for someone who finds religious zealotry a form of aggression and therefore distasteful. I have much gratitude for this talk and I will seek out more of your wisdom.

I’m still young and 17 but I have always believed in my heart that their is energy all around us and nature is sacred. I’ve believed in something more but never a bible or a singular god. I’m rlly glad I learned about Shinto and am excited to explore as I think it fits well with my beliefs. Can you practice Shinto if you are not Japanese? Thank you 🙏🏻

I love how your teeth sparkle like diamonds(emphasis on sparkling quality). Speaks volumes about the quality of diet and overall life style. Western idea of healthy teeth means just white which can bleech off the healthy shiny enamel and results in unhealthy sensitive teeth which age faster.

Domo arigatogozaimasu! I appreciate your detailed translation and explanation. I like the concept of purification, cleaning ritual. Do you think it originated from when Izanagi-no-kami returned from the underworld and bathe in the river? Also would you consider "kami" more of a spirit or god? Thanks Azumi 🙇
@Taiyo_Jingu
@Taiyo_Jingu 10 месяцев назад
I believe the concept of kami-sama as actually more complex and in fact transcends the concepts of spirit and god. It feels to me to be an honorific of something or someone.
@commentarytalk1446
@commentarytalk1446 2 года назад
I think "Shinto" = "Way of Spirits". It would in fact be a more favourable translation into English because the Western concept of monotheistism of G-od with a capital G is not the same thing as that in Shintoism which is more diffuse eg spirit of pebble and spirit of forest for comparison. The Western concept of G-od is very Human-centric focus also. Kami = Spirit in general and the vague of the term is imo it's most useful property. The endless nonsense we've had to witness over the centuries in the West trying and failing to define God by contrast... A great example of this blunder: Often messages are of the the type "JC saves!" Wrong. "JC's message saves!"

Hi! Excited to watch more of your videos! I do have a small question should you have time? I'm considering placing a kamidana in my home, however the only place I have available that's suitable for one is a large, shallow closet which unfortunately faces north, but after searching, I couldn't find anyone explaining how taboo it is. Would it be better to not have a kamidana for now or would it still be acceptable?
