Hey Becky, when I first started watching you I was living in Illinois. And I dreamed of living in the countryside and hear chickens all around me. Thank God my dream came true. Although I don't own any chickens; my neighbors free range chickens come into my property which is out in the open country. I live in a mountainous region in Puerto Rico. I also have a creek out in the back. And I just love it. A few weeks ago a hen had ten little chicks. And I helped to feed them.

Its like watching a commercial, but much, much better; better personality, not scripted, informational, and its actually entertaining

Thank you for your “reality” videos about chickens.....they have been a godsend to me and have made me feel confident about buying and raising chickens. Your videos have helped prepare me for what’s next! I finally fulfilled a bucket list and got some chickens and a coop (we built one) about two weeks ago. I bought my set-up supplies and chickens from tractor supply (4 little chick hen). I also had the best customer service. Tractor supply also has a type of pull off “how-to” instructions for people like me that didn’t know what to buy. I actually went back a week later and showed the staff what my coop looked like and thanked her for the information. She about cried and was so appreciated that I found her to thank her. I want to thank you too! I prefer your videos over everyone else’s because of the informative, information and your personality! Love it!

Great video! I agree with the heating plate to keep the chicks warm but I would not have purchase that particular one. I am not wanting to do any more cleaning than I have to. I got the square 4 peg adjustable one WITH A CONE SQUARE SHAPE HOOD. So if the chicks jump up on the heater, they slid right back off; no poo-doos to clean off!

Tractor Supply is great I find things I need all the time in that place.

Our coop is built inside a dog kennel we weren't using anymore, skirted around with chicken wire to help keep chickens in and to deter some pests. It opens out into a yard, but we close them in at night to keep bigger predators, like possums, out. As to chicks, we were able to use a plastic tub or other lining inside of a dog crate we had on hand, of course with all the warming, feeding and watering supplies needed.

I viewed some cctv with nest cam which is an internal video monitor system and it will probably be a good use for a barn with issues. But for cctv on your barn there are free versions of security camera monitoring that are interesting in terms of security.

a huge list of things in this eg Coop Control (for fowl odors), Poultry bedding, poultry pen/coop, chick starter, forage cake (for chicks kept in coop), chick grit, thermometer, rolled oats, elecrolytes, 5 grain scratch, dumor organic (16% layer pellets), oyster shell (for calicum) etc

Hi Becky I am 14 years old I’m from Ohio you have inspired me so much to get chickens or as you say “little chickie babies”. I got 5 silkie bantams and then another breed that is unknown but is a bantam. I was wondering how old do bantams have to be until you move them into a coop? I heard it was different with silkies. I have been watching you for 4 years now. I never miss one of your videos. I love you and your homestead and your channel so much. You have a great voice. Lots of love from Ohio

New to the channel. I am big fan of the channel. So much fun

I have to tell you. Since I have become joyfully single in the last 8 months. I have had to figure out how to treat my flock of ladies 😁 The first thing I did was to get rid of his rude attacking rooster (they seemed pleased) I became worried because 1 lady almost every 2 weeks lost a bunch of feathers. We were nearing colder weather yikes ladies. Then time change. Then predators took 2 a week or so apart. Egg laying dropped down to 1 every few days (13 ladies) Well then I was blessed to find your videos 😁 I had heard about fermenting the food, started that a month ago. They are back to laying again with some easy changes. This is great since it is their 2nd full laying season and family had told me to kill them and start over. No I will not. I'm going to try doing some sprouts for them too. I love my ladies 💖

Becky, I am so grateful for your basic, clear instructions. Also your sense of humor. I can Not get enough of your videos and instructions. I do have a question about the chick set up. I was kinda surprised you didn't put any of that white powder earth stuff in or maybe under the shavings. I have some of that in my Amazon cart by the way. We have a lovely flock of 5 hens. But, is putting that stuff in with babies a big nono? Would it hurt them? I know other types of birds have very sensitive lungs.

We used to have a regular water thingy that looked liked feeder. Now we have a nipple thingy so they can get water without it having to be dirty all the time with poop.

Love your happy attitude. I have raised chickens for over 30 years. You should dip each chicks beak in water as you put in brooder. You can put a few marbles in the water, it attracts the chicks to peck at them. I did brain fry a 10.00 barnevelder chick on a 100* day in Nebr. with a heat lamp....made me sick. Speaking of sick ....those electrolytes help people too if you have peuks or diarrhea.

It's nice to see stores like this. Why on earth we don't have like this in Philippines where you can buy ready-made chicken coop for poultries? so many good things available.

You need a good broody hen who likes hatching eggs, but more important to take care of them until they are 6 weeks old when they fend for themselves or 2 1/2 months of time. I have a great broody hen. She even steals eggs from her sisters. All I do is provide an isolated space in the coop, water and feed then take her out once a day to poop and have a sand bath. Good broody hens don't mess up their nest area. When the new chicks hatch I just provide baby chick feed and keep a light for extra warmth at night, but momma hen really keeps them warm. The usual chicken feeders are too big so I just use tops from plastic containers checking and refilling 3 times a day. It isn't cute, but it works for my chickens.

What I don't love about TSC is they they have made in China cheap fence clips that break in installation. I prefer to support local, small businesses vs big chain stores bc the merchandise is usually better quality and it keeps the economy local. I have friends that work for TSC and there was a bad manager that discriminated against an older and new mother and TSC was cool with that and fired the mother. For being a mother. No.

I got my first chicks 3 weeks ago and these videos help me out so much. They are Golden Comets and almost full feathered. Thank you Becky!! One question when they get bigger and move outside do I have to keep buying grit?

We actually bought a bunch of paullets and one of them is a Brahma chicken we named her butters and she’s really big

I just went shopping at TS and got everything I need except they didn't have chicks yet but I found someone local incubating some and will have some in a couple more days.

We use the orange one for duck eggs the size is good due to theduck eggs being large size
