Side note: Not sure we’d be calling Utah a dynasty team, but if Utah had more playmakers, they could’ve been more competitive in those playoff series. Here are some other ones: 1. 1970's NJ Nets: They could have had Kareem, and they blew it. 2. 1970's Phoenix Suns: The Curse of the Coin Flip. 2. 1970's Atlanta Hawks: In 1971, the Hawks foolishly drafted someone in the ABA hardship draft, taking away their 1972 first-round pick. They would have picked before Milwaukee, and they could have had Julius Erving. If they didn't draft Tom Payne, and took Erving in 72, maybe they could have kept him, and they could have put together a powerhouse. 3. 1980's and 90's Rockets: In Hakeem's autobiography, he talks about how the Rockets almost traded Ralph Sampson to Portland for Clyde Drexler and the #2 pick in the 1984 draft. Imagine Hakeem, Clyde, and MJ for 15 years. Scary! 4. 1990's and 2000's Magic: First, they let Shaq go in 96. Then, in 2000, they could have had Grant Hill, Tim Duncan, and T-Mac on the same team (they also could have had Ben Wallace with them if the Pistons take C John Amaechi for Hill in the trade instead,). 5. 2010's Blazers: If Roy and Oden didn't get hurt (sigh).

You can also include the Houston rockets in the 90s where they won 2 chips in 1994 and 1995. But in 1996 vs the sonics also in 1997 the rockers traded Kenny smith, casell and horry to the phoenix suns for Barkley which would create a big 3 but the team was aging and had injuries

the first thing that came to mind for this video were the late 70s and 80s 76ers teams with 5 hall of famers all (mostly) in their primes, dr j, moses malone, mo cheeks, bobby jones, and a young charles barkley at the end. they were a lot better than people remember them for in the 80s, which is seen by most as just "the lakers and the celtics" but before the pistons came around, every year the celtics didn't make the finals in the 80s the 76ers did

The blazers could have been on this list 3 times. The first being '77, the second being the early 90's drexler lead blazers. Had they got Sabonis when they were sabonis to, suddenly you have one of the best centers of all time playing alongside drexler BOTH IN THEIR PRIME. There's no way even mj's bulls compete with that. The third time being the roy/oden/aldridge injury teams. Blazers are freaking cursed, man. Also I HEAVILY resent referring to okc as a homegrown team when they were practically gifted a contender.
@aleksaracic8866

I think that one dynasty that could've been is most certainly the Houston rockets in the 80s, in two ways. No. 1 They got to the finals with Olajuwon and Sampson knocking off the showtime Lakers, so if Samspon doesnt get injured they would probably go on to win a few even before the Jordan retirement. No. 2 They got offered a package of Drexler and a first round pick in th '84 draft for Sampson. That picked turned out to be #2 overall, so they could've paired up a sophmore Drexler with #1 pick Olajuwon and #2 pick (the Blazers picked Bowie but since the Rockets took Olajuwon they probably would've picked Jordan), so they could've had Drexler Jordan and Olajuwon for about 10-15 years

Definitely gotta pick the Orlando Magic from the 90's. If they'd kept Shaq they could've won multiple championships. Especially with Jordan retiring in 98. The Lakers and Spurs were juggernauts but neither of them have perfect Finals records.

If nobody got hurt, the Magic would've been winning as early as 1998 possibly. The Bulls were starting to crumble in the last dance, & I think a healthy prime Shaq & Penny would've won, especially if the Pacers pushed them to 7. Now the East remained really weak, so Orlando could've easily made the finals every year up until 2005. Age would've caught up by then, and the only real threat would've been the Spurs.

I think the technical definition of a dynasty is 3 chips in 4 years. But I feel it should be a little looser than that. Like the early 2000s spurs should count (they one 3 in five years and obviously 5 in total). But I'd throw teams that go back to back if say they made it to the title game 3 or 4 times. At least for basketball.

Kawhi winning a title in Toronto was a bit of a welcome surprise for everyone, including Kawhi himself. It was just a consequence of KD & Klay Thompson's ACL injuries that gave them a real chance of winning the title. So Kawhi wasn't looking to build a "dynasty" there whatsoever.

Knowing what we know now, if that thunder team had stayed together could they have been a formidable force? You had a young Westbrook, a young Harden who hadn’t quite come into his own yet, and one of the best players in the game in KD. They could’ve been one of the best teams assembled. But that trade worked for everybody. Harden became a superstar in Houston and Westbrook and Durant became a great duo.
