Okay, so what if the steam locomotives DON'T have articulation but are still really strong? No Big Boys or Yellowstones here. These are the classic style of steam engine powerhouses. Also, they're all American. That isn't on purpose. It just happens to be that way.

(This is gonna make me look like a complete foamer but here we go lol) Fun fact: there was actually a variant of the 9000’s that could produce ~111,000 lbs of tractive effort. These were the OWR&N (a subsidiary of UP) 9700 class. They were equipped with Franklin tender boosters due to the steep grades on the line. The boosters gave the 4-12-2s ~15,000 lbs more tractive effort while starting, then we’re disengaged at around 15 MPH. (Also, slight correction regarding 9000 herself, she was delivered with her 4th set of drivers blind, but UP added a flange to it after curve tests proved it unnecessary.) Love the vid, and as a volunteer of the museum where 9000 is(RailGiants), am I glad that you covered the 9000s (excluding the 9018 vid lol)!

You and I have more in common than i thought, Mr. Darkness! I have always wanted to see a juggernaut of railroading be restored as well. There's this Canadian Pacific Railways 4-8-4 (one of only TWO 4-8-4S EVER MADE FOR CPR, btw) rusting away on its own on the grounds of a steel plant in my hometown of Regina, Saskatchewan. I have been wanting to see it and the dining car and caboose it "pulls" restored back to presentable condition, but it's owned by the steel plant, and they're NOTORIOUSLY difficult to contact. If i could just win a lottery, I could donate it to my new home pof Yorkton, Saskatchewan's Flour Mill Museum, who's looking for a piece of rolling stock to partner with their new museum building. If I won a big lottery, Madame Queen would be my #2 pick!

The strongest German steam engine ever built is the Br 45 with 28 built and around 420 kn of tractive effort. The usual German engines like Br 50's or 52's go with about half of that. This just goes to show the ridiculous size and power needed in Amercan freight service even back in the day. I just love these big loco's.

The I1-S is my favorite locomotive. My dad was a talented modeler and in 1984 he scratch-built for me a brass HO scale I1-S with a long haul tender, numbered 4587. It is my most prized material possession. If I somehow managed to get rich I would buy and restore the Boston and Maine Flying Yankee. Since I'm retired and living in Central America I doubt that will happen, but I'm willing to take donations.

I'm actually not that surprised that America has the most powerful rigid framed kettles, because who else has not only the wide open spaces to allow for more gradual curves, but the sheer amount of stuff needing moved that would justify building and operating such a large locomotive? It's _horses for courses_ writ large. Great respect though, because those are some hella strong draught horses you got there.

What about some of the smallest steam locomotives; especially in regards to weight? Specifically, the ones designed either for passenger service or heavy industrial usage that doesn't involve shunting or dedicated equipment style locomotives. Ones that come to mind first are the Sans Pareil replica (not the orignal) and Fairy Queen EIR-21. Heck, narrow gauge railroads had some of the smallest steam locomotives. Examples to start with would be Sea Lion, Polar Bear, Baldwin Class 10-12-D, Bridgton & Saco River No. 7, Dolgoch, Talyllyn, Latvia MI-657, Prince (Ffestiniog Railway), and especially DHR B Class 0-4-0ST.

#5000 had 70" drivers vs the later 5001 & 5011 class which featured 74" drivers for improved counterbalancing. They were good substitute fast passenger power when a 4-8-4 wasn't available. Got to climb around #5000 once when the Panhandle Historical Society was doing some cosmetic work. I'm surprised the C&O and Pennsy 2-10-4's weren't mentioned as they were close in size to the ATSF engines plus they had boosters.

In height, the Q2 16 ft 5.5 in, while S1 was 16 ft tall. Finally at width, the Q2 was 11ft 4in wide, while the S1 was 10 ft 7 in wide. So the Q2 wasn’t larger overall, it was larger in width and height, but not length.

The 9000 beats the Deutsche Reichsbahn Class 45 by just 9 kN, but she beats them.

I suspect that part of the problem with many of the articulated engines on the previous list was that they had nowhere near the boiler capacity to generate much power. All of those engines produced huge amounts of tractive force, but even huge tractive forces are not very powerful at low speeds. Three hundred kilonewtons of tractive force at one meter per second is only 400 horsepower. As the locomotives sped up, there was not enough steam generated to maintain a high tractive effort. You do not give the speed at which I can understand why people might want a list of engines that produced high tractive efforts and high power, but that might require information that is not published. You would need a graph of maximum tractive effort versus speed, use that graph to calculate maximum power versus speed, and then rank the locomotives by which had the highest peak power.

In each instance the Rated Tractive Effort has been used. Therefore there is no need to quote speed as at start up is assumed.

Twilight of the Gods from Shadows of Valentia. A terrific remix of an already very good final level theme from Gaiden.

I am not surprised there is no European locomotive, as the max axl load of 20 t limited the size of the steam locomotives. I would bet all of the locos mentioned in the video have an axl load around 30t.

id probably do something aweful here but i have to admit "Madam Queen" is beautiful so if i could get the money to buy her i would but heres the aweful bit! id change her paint scheme to be fit that of a queen whilst asking that it doesnt make the locomotive look outlandishly stupid, that it contains her company logo on her tender, that she be given a name plate "Madam Queen" and finally be made steam capable so everyone can see that the one true royal of America is still alive and well! and FYI im a brit we love our dinky choo choo's but there is something majestic about the American breeds
