Thanks, Jon, for creating these videos! As an accountant I use Excel all day and the knowledge I learned from your videos has helped me do my job quickly and more efficiently. I use right click, V. I just realized that I have a Menu Key so my new favorite will now be 3. Menu Key+V!

Thank you So much. This has been on my mind for ages when I have to copy values from one line to another. right click is fine but there has to be a keyboard shortcut. It is a lot more involved that I expected. the fastest one being Menu+V requiring me to relocate my entire hand across the keyboard or move my hand from the mouse, so I guess I'll need to memorize the multi keycombo letters.

I use number 5 when I'm working on 1 same workbook. When I try to copy and paste from another open workbook I usually ecounter issues, that's why i go with values without formating but I haven't found a shortcut for this process. Thank you for your videos.

Hi Jon.. thanks for the various ways to Paste Values. My goto has always been Ctrl+Alt+V, V, Enter, although after watching your video, I like Alt, H, V, V, since it reinforces the Alt key sequence for the ribbon menu and is a little shorter. Note that for people who don't have a menu key on the keyboard, Shift+F10 will activate the right-click shortcut menu. So, Shift+F10, V will work like Menu Key, V. Thanks and thumbs up!

I use the Custom QAT method, but I add Copy as (1) and Paste Values as (2). This way my left thumb can stay at the Alt key, and I can process a lot of data quickly by just pressing it + 1 and 2.

If you have a large spreadsheet, Ctrl+V, Ctrl, V can be very slow. Ctrl+V pastes the formulas and the sheet recalculates. Ctrl, V pastes the original values.

Great video, Jon! Do you have any advice on the SENDKEYS method you mentioned? I am curious if there are any best practices incorporating that in macros. Also, are there other ways to retain clipboard history while using VBA?
@ExcelCampus
@ExcelCampus 5 лет назад
Thanks Kyle! The SendKeys method can be a bit buggy. I've done extensive testing with it to get it to work fairly reliably in my Paste Buddy Add-in. You have to add a little bit of wait time between the send keys when mimicking Alt, E, S, V, Enter. There is a developer version of Paste Buddy (www.excelcampus.com/paste-buddy/) where you can see all the VBA code that makes it work. I will also add this to my list for future posts and videos. It's a great workaround to retain the undo history for a lot of tasks. There aren't many other ways to retain undo history that I know of with Excel. VBA pretty much clears it on any action that modifies the workbook, due to the complex nature of the formula dependencies and calc engine. I hope that helps. Thanks again and have a nice weekend! :-)
@kylebuggie
@kylebuggie 5 лет назад
@@ExcelCampus Thanks Jon! I will check out developer version. Careful with the use of the word "buggy". I am somewhat sensitive to the negative connotation. ;-) Just kidding. Thanks for the great videos!

I will probably end up using 5. Ctrl+V, Ctrl, V as I use a lot of computers and this will be universal. I do like 4. Custom Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) Button very easy to hit Alt 1. 1. Alt, E, S, V, Enter does not work on Office 2021 On a laptop you can at least on my machine hit Shift F10 to bring up the context menu ie the same as hitting the menu key. However as I have the function keys in priority to the F keys, I would have to hit Fn + Shift + F10, V, Enter. (too many keys) As I said I'd rather hit Alt 1 if I always used the same machine or Ctrl+V, Ctrl, V Thank you for your video most helpful. Regards Damien

All browsers use control-shift-V as Paste Format-Free text. Microsoft Word can be made to do the same thing. But how can that be done with Excel? Or do we need to install Steve Miller's PureText for Windows?

I have a menu key but it's not working for menu+V. The key says Menu (and Fn), it doesn't look like the key in the video. Is the Fn messing it up? I'm on MS 365.

Do: 1. Alt, E, S, V, Enter 2. Alt, H, V, V Still work with excel in 2021. Im not getting the same result as you. I dont have any of the symbols you have on the h, v, v as you have on number 2. And I am not able to paste in the numbers with decimals with number 1. With number 1 I just get the choices; HTML, unicode text and "text".

Thanks Jonathan. I'm used to calling them accelerator keys, as this is what they are called in VBA userforms and Windows forms in general. The underlined letter in the option/control can be programmed with the Accelerator property...
@JonathanExcels

@@ExcelCampus As I said, I was just being fussy. your video is great! For people that see how fast I can accomplish tasks and want to learn more efficient methods I teach: 1) one button shortcuts like F5 vs Ctrl+g or F12 2) left handed short cuts like Ctrl+c or Ctrl+x or Ctrl+v because you can navigate with the other hand and arrow keys 3) two handed short cuts like Ctrl+Shift+down arrow 4) menu acceleration like Alt, h, v, v (old school Alt, e, s, v) 5) combinations like the sequence F5, Alt+s, k 6) context menu (with our without mouse) 9) mouse (although the mouse does excel in specific in stances like autofill) Not sure if it was 'Mr Excel' or 'Excel is fun' or someone else that coined the phrase "productivity killer" in reference to the mouse but I agree.
