Thanks for taking time from Ph.D. and your commissions. Some days you teach us how to be Donatello's assistant, some days how to be Donatello.

Overheating on sharpening a tool must be considered. It will make the point weak and soft. Very nice tips !

For drawing a flat perimeter line, just put the stone on a flat surface and attach a pincil to the top of a block of wood. Then you just need to move the pencil block around the block drawing a linevat the same level. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks so much for the tips! For tip #3 I’ve always use a chalk line, even when it’s not a flat surface.

My pleasure! Yes, a chalk line works great too!

I use a line laser for this purpose. I'm generally leveling blocks of stone that can only be moved with heavy machinery. Repositioning the line laser a few times to get a line around the entire perimeter seems to work out accurately.

I have a question for someone of your skills and talents. I have a large selection of limestone rocks and boulders ranging in size from 20 lb. to about 8000 lb. The hardness varies along with the color and surface. There are many shapes that already resemble future wildlife head/body projects. I'm hopeful that you can point me towards your experience with limestone creativity and skills videos.

Hey Dave, sounds like a great selection of rocks you have. 8000 pounds?! That must be huge! I'm not sure I understand the question though. Do you mean how to bring out the shapes that you already see in the rocks?
@davemeeks8109
@davemeeks8109 3 года назад
Yes that is correct. These bolders are huge, heavy and in some cases you can imagine animal heads of various species in the rough stages. I have the tools and abilities to duplicate all things that humans can do if I can observe a real professional preforming their God given talents. I've watched a number of your projects with marble yet haven't seen you work with limestone. Do you have limestone projects in the past that I can view?
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 3 года назад
@@davemeeks8109 I used that technique many times, just getting inspired by what the stone suggested me and carved what I saw in the raw block. But I have only done that with marble, never with other types of limestones. You can see my works on my website: www.atharjaber.com

What should be the angle for your chisels for cleanest strikes? And best amount of meat removed?
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 2 года назад
That depends on many things. The type of chisels, the type of stone, what texture you want. Check out my videos on the chisels, I explain the carving angles there.
