My grandparents on my mother's side lived in St. George decades ago as did my grandmother on my dad's side. I have not been to St. George for over 20 years. I am traveling down there next month for a visit for about 8 days. I have concerns about my trip down there because I know not only has St. George grown a lot since I was last there but the whole of Washington County has grown a tremendous amount in population. That's sad as I don't think that the desert community down there can sustain that kind of growth for very long especially when it comes to water usage. I hope that the growth levels off and that the community thrives down there.

All cities have good and bad and that combination is a personal choice. We lived in St. George, UT and didn't find it suitable for our family. It is SO HOT there. We were told we would get used to it but we found people just worshipped the vent gods and stayed indoors. When our daughter passed out from heat exhaustion several times, we made the choice to move elsewhere.

I moved from St. George, it does have its cons but I think it’s a great state. Small city not too big, they have tons of out doors and great scenery.

@@BrianWaller-qe7gr It is cooler than Meas on average St. George is between 5 and 8 degrees cooler than Mesa year round. Accurately I like the hot weather and I miss Utah so that area will be just right for us.

Just a note... Soon enough the St. George Airport will be ready to accept larger airplanes as they have short term and long term goals on expanding the airport. It's a slow process but definitely in the works.

Another reason I would avoid St. George is that it might still be radioactive because of the intensive atomic tests from the 1950's.

Although that used to be a problem, it was so long ago that any and all radioactive elements have left the area. My grandparents have lived here since the 80s and none of them have had cancer as well as my mom growing up here with my three uncles

I like it here. Not rich. Not LDS. Have hot rods and Harley’s. Some of the locals can be judgmental but I have zero major problems. Of course I bought my house 24 years ago so it was affordable but it was a great place to raise my sons and I love the climate.

From Indio, CA we go to Hurricane to cool off in the summer! My wife and I are non-denominational Christians and we fully appreciate the LDS influence as the overall morality of the community is so much better. As to the watering, none of us really want to be mowing lawn on the weekend. If you want to farm it is a deal breaker. As to transportation, I wonder how many people know that Skywest is based there? Also, it’s a great place to learn to fly!

You did not mention it is a "downwinder" area from the nuclear test site in Nevada. Fallout from above-ground testing settled there at times in the 1940s to the 1960s.

You want to talk about Nuclear Fall out, just live in Los Angeles. The Smog their is a heck of a lot worse. They have advisory days where schools don't let the children outside during recess. And the big joke in New York is all the chemicals they receive from New Jersey. St. George is a dream compared to those places.

I lived and worked in Utah for years. Many of my family members still live there. I would never live in St. George. Too hot, too expensive, too touristy, too close to Colorado City and all the weirdness there, no water, and a minor pet peeve are all of the roundabouts they keep building there. Cedar City and Richfield are far better locations...

In 2024 3 bed/2 bath new house is an average of $430K. Grocery stores are an average 13 miles away.The heath is on for 5 months of the year.Medical services are good.The services and other shops are insufficient for the size of the population.Water scarcity is looming on the horizon.Pretty generic western town in a way to Las Vegas.

There are many reasons to avoid St. George. #1 reason is growth. We are growing so fast that our traffic is horrible, we are unique for our lava rocks they are being removed for resorts no one wanted and our way of life that we have known for 100yrs is being torn away by the newcomers. We were nicknamed DIXIE by the pioneers and the residents of 10 to 15yrs who don't know or don't care are trying to remove that name from our city. We have greedy developers who want this place to be so big that we are literally are dying inside. As a 40+yr resident having lived here since 81 I have seen a lot of change, but this recent change has been the worst. PLEASE THOSE READING THIS BEWARNED WE DON'T WANT ANYMORE TO MOVE IN WE ARE OVERCROWED AND WE HATE NEWCOMERS. STAY AWAY.

Salt Lake is experiencing this 10 times worse than you guys down there. I blame Utah legislatures and their relationships with developers. We are putting ourselves on a path to being a miserable place to live. We don't have the water or the infrastructure for any of this.

I lived there for 6 years. Mesquite is designed and tailored for those who are retired and waiting for death. There is absolutely no other reason to live there.

For rich people only. I survived out there for a while with my skill in tile. Worked on the homes in Entrada. Long shifts and stressful pressure from the contractor to complete parade homes. The wealthy don't understand how lucky they are.

@@72dodge340 They don't pay fair wages. The only people who can afford homes are the ones who come from out of the area with a boatload of cash and bid the homes up overvalue. You won't find realtors complaining about that, but they are part of the problem.

We have the best of both worlds, winter in SG and summer near Spokane, WA. Retired so we go out when others are working. Financially we are better off with Washington as our primary residence....

As a Catholic that lived in Tooele UT I can say I never found another Catholic Parish in my 80 years of .of living all over the USA (and Germany). LDS community make for the best Catholic Parishes.. I suspect it the same for all Faiths.
