Don't move to St George without knowing these 13 Reasons. I’m a Realtor® living in Santa Clara, Utah. I love working with families since I have 5 kids myself. When we told people we were considering moving to southern Utah, we were warned not to go because it is too hot. We moved anyway and have loved it ever since!

I love your honesty in this video! I think every town should have a video like this. It would be wonderful to know ahead of time what living in a area is REALLY like, before moving there. Thanks for the insight, Sharee!

Living in St. George my entire life... 1. Reptiles such as lizards and other insects (ants, butterflies, etc) you usually only see in the summer. This isn't even a huge part of St. George. 2. As a church member, this is extremely helpful. 3. This is also helpful for people that work on Sunday, get to go home to their families earlier. 4. St. George isn't a huge drinking place, so it's more special when you go out to Vegas. I find this a safe place to live for families. 5. Same as #4. 6. I don't know ONE teenager that doesn't have anything to do or complains about living here. 7. Our Mall isn't huge, but there is always something to do and they are adding more and more stores each year! 8. I have lived here for almost 15 years and I have experienced 2 "bad" monsoons. Other then that we just get heavy rain storms it isn't that bad as Arizona's. 9. The pay isn't great, but everything is a lot cheaper here. 10. I love the snow and when it snows its amazing, but Brian Head and Pine Valley are such fun places to experience when this happens. 11. The visitors are great because it's so fun meeting new people!

I live in Santa Clara and I see tons of lizards year round, I think it really depends on where you live because there are literally lizards on every sunny surface here. I also have scorpions and tarantulas in my yard every single year, and a some years even in the winter on warmer days. There are a few snakes around my house too, but they’re not as numerous as lizards. So I would say this applies to downtown St. George, but not the communities further out in the Mojave.

Oh, bless your heart for reuniting the lizards together, and your patience for not trying to remove the ma-ma lizard, but you listened to her message and figured out why she was not moving. It makes me so happy to hear how you compassionately treated the lizard babies.

My husband and I are retired and moved to St. George four years ago. The only drawback for me is the heat in the summer. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. I am a quilter and St. George is rather a quilter’s Mecca with five quilt shops (six if you count Ace Hardware) and several quilt guilds and groups. I spend the hot summers inside sewing.

We moved here 4 years ago and some of this stuff is true. Luckily we've never seen a scorpion or snake and I'm an avid hiker. No rain at all! Maybe there's a drought for 4 years?! Main things I don't like about this town are the heat in summer and that there's too many people so trying to hike alone to get some peace and quiet is not going to happen.

This was actually pretty fun to watch👍😆. Yes the mall is so pathetic I don't know how they get away with calling it a mall😂. The holiday thing I believe is the same pretty much everywhere. I've lived in few states and have family all over the world and Sunday holidays being moved to Saturday is actually very common. I personally LOVE the lizards because they keep the massive spiders and cockroaches at Bay 😅...I feel lucky when I have loads of them around my house👌. One thing to mention as well is southern Utah is not by any means pet friendly. If you own a house, great👍. If you're a renter don't plan on owning a pet. I have seen and heard too many stories to count on how many people had to get rid of their pets because they were moving to St George and no place allowed pets. Anyhow, fun video! You were spot on in your description of this place 👌😊. Also, quick note for those who care 🧐... We have nasty Coyotes that'll eat your pets. Here in St George you're paid $50 per coyote if you hunt them. I do not hunt them, never have, never will but totally support it because they've killed so many house pets. So if you're a hunter....
@ComeHomeStGeorge
@ComeHomeStGeorge 2 года назад
Hi Carina! Thank you for the great comments! That is a great perspective on the lizards. I will have to remember that 😊. Also, I didn't know about the coyote problem and pets. Maybe I will start a side job hunting coyotes 😊.
@StompMom5
@StompMom5 2 года назад
@@ComeHomeStGeorge Do it😅. If I could stomach a kill I'd totally do it. It's $50 per coyote and there's so many you don't have a limit to what you're allowed to kill. I live in hurricane and there's loads of them up here not far from where I live. And yeah the summers we have the most lizards are the summers we never see bugs so they're welcome help👌😄

I wanted to take a photo, ran to get my phone but upon my return it was gone. Can't believe how impatient Texas scorpions are. Thanks for this information. P.S. Good to know about the 'monsoons'. Might affect my choice of abode, if I make the decision to relocate there.

Great video. I've lived in St George for 9 years and am thinking about finally buying, in Hurricane, but the only question that keeps me up at night is the water issue. Do you think we will run out of water in 10-20 years, is there a chance that owning a house here could turn into a bust/full financial loss because of the water issue one day?
@ComeHomeStGeorge
@ComeHomeStGeorge Год назад
Thank you! Hurricane is beautiful! I have heard since I was a young child that we were going to run out of water and we haven't. I do believe we need to be wise in the use of our water and have been very impressed when listening to the Washington County Water Conservancy District speak about all they are doing to make sure we don't run out. It has given me a lot of confidence that we will be okay. That being said, I don't have a crystal ball, a massive draught could wreak havoc anywhere.

I don't even leave my doors open and I've still had seriously 5 or 6 baby lizards sneak into my home over the past 10 years. I don't mind them, I think they're cute. I've gotten pretty talented at catching and releasing lizards after having to do so many times over the years, lol. My current community has more lizards than some of the others that I've lived at in St George. I'd say where I'm at now is like a lizard sanctuary, there's so many here, it's insane. Many people who live here may not have the lizard issue, but plan on it just in case! Where I'm at now does have less spiders so even trade. I'd rather have lizards than spiders. In some of my old houses and apartments I had spiders (wolf spiders) run across me in my sleep and wake me up. Gross. Only had that happen here once at this place that I'm at now.

We lived in northern Idaho for many years and over the last 5 years, Coeur d' Alene as well as the surrounding towns and cities have exploded in population. Mostly Californians who are simply looking for a better life for themselves and children. Sadly, the very thing they had hoped to leave behind became what they had left behind. Crowded stores and restaurants with long lines, traffic jams on highways and freeways as well crime and home cost sky rocketing. We have visited allot places while on vacation in order to find a slower pace of life but what we found is that these places are also filling up and changing fast. We now live in the small desert town of Mesquite NV about 40 minutes south of St George. We shop in St George and our doctors are in St George. What is now happening in St George in the way of population growth is the very same thing that has happened to Coeur d' Alene and Boise ID, as well as many small cities in Montana. People are looking for higher ground so to speak. Some place that they can feel safe and raise a family without worrying about crime or all the bad things going on in the world. For now we will enjoy where we live but it is also changing.

I really want to move to St. George! I’m torn between there and Boise, ID. I’m a Vegas native. I want a slower paced lifestyle, smaller and safer town to raise my son. The weather is similar to Las Vegas, so I’m definitely not concerned about that. I’ve just heard from many many people, including some LDS members, that if you aren’t a Mormon , they will shun you and exclude you. I’m worried that if I move my business to St. George, it will suffer because I don’t follow their religion. Also, if you really want a night out with bars and gambling, Mesquite, NV is much closer than Vegas.

St George has grown and changed quite a bit in the last few years. I'm sure the people talking to you are telling you the truth, but I haven't heard of any mormons shunning businesses since I've lived here. In fact, the only business I've heard of being shunned was run by a mormon who was shunned for being too conservative. Boise, ID is a great place as well. And they also have a large mormon population. Have you visited both places? I just don't want you to not go after your dream because of other people's opinions.

I've lived here for eight years and there are actually a few other popular churches as well and I feel like we all get along pretty well. If someone had a bad experience with members I can honestly say the only thing I can think of are elderly people who aren't real happy with the growth of this place. We have had few experiences there but only with the old people and they can be hard whether it be church member or not, it doesn't seem to matter. We don't wear masks here either and only the old people threw massive fits and tried to create problems but if ignored they go away😂😅. The politics are quite nice here, we don't believe in following Cali or NY need for massive control👍😊👍 so that's gotta be a plus🥳.

Ive lived all over the country and personally st. George was my least favorite. I LOVED vacationing here but living here was a struggle. Here's some things to know .. a list of negative and positive (-) 1) I grew up in the north east. My brain loves the greenery, trees, shade, and wildlife. Hearing many birds chirping or even deer and squirrels makes me happy. There was very little wildlife which was hard to adjust to. 2) privacy. With many trees in the NE you get a nice sense of privacy. It's nice to be able to feel somewhat secluded on a hiking trail. Utah is open sky and you can see miles in front of you. It's breathtaking at first but it felt a little exposing. 3) culture. I grew up in a coffee, beer and sports team culture. Most people are LDS so if your meeting neighbors you can't bond over beer or coffee for the most part. Also it's nice to have football culture which isn't a thing here 4) "oh my heck" lol..cursing is not instilled in me but I definitely let out a few mild curse words here or there. I like to be respectful to the established culture where I live but feeling like I had to watch my every word was mentally exhausting. This isn't mandatory at all but I do feel a little bit more comfortable not monitoring my language to feel respectful. 5) no shade... The sun is beaming down for weeks in a row. I had a constant headache in the summer from the constant sun 6) connecting flights. It is nice living near a major airport 7) lack of events (+) 1) restaurants.. I can't believe for the lack of diversity how amazing the authentic food is here. I think the best Indian, Korean and sushi I've ever had was in st George. The Google reviews are a little critical...the restaurants are great 2) rodeos. This isn't so popular all over. The rodeos are a treat here 3) access to national parks 4) safe. A place where you don't have to look over your shoulder. I always felt extremely safe. I lost my wallet in a store and it was returned with everything in it at the front desk

I moved to the area 6 years ago and my biggest headache year around were the cockroaches. I hired a pest control company to treat the yard several times a year. I'd find dead or dying roaches outside and sometimes they'd make it past the door into the entryway and die. Still a headache to deal with every day. What made a big difference this year was putting out some roach bait. Within a few days 99% of the roaches were gone. Now it's rare to find any roaches, dead or alive. There are the occasional nasty looking centipedes and various sizes of scorpions but usually dead ones. I did find a 4" centipede in my bathtub once and another on the bathroom floor a year or two later. Scorpions have stayed outside except for one that I think hitched a ride on the coat of my dog. I found that, dead, and sitting on the toilet brush in the master bathroom. I love to see the lizards as they are busy all day and night eating bugs that would otherwise be a nuisance. Haven't found one in the house yet. I give them names, like Godzilla for this one particularly big one. (all of 6"-7") We get roadrunners and little bands of quail prowling up and down the street looking for something to eat. Bugs, lizards and snakes. We get lots of birds sometimes, robins once a year, sparrows, and you'll see ravens, crows, hawks, falcons, buzzards pearching sometimes but usually soaring overhead. This year I saw several very large flocks of pelicans, geese and ducks migrating through the area. There are coyotes, turtles, mice, rats, I've only seen one mouse that got into the garage, I trapped it in one of those traps that don't harm them and let it go in the undeveloped area a mile or so from the house. Haven't seen the other animals but others have. They are a problem almost everywhere in the US. Once a year we've had mosquito problems, especially on the walking trails. Lasts a month or so.

@Eren Cox I HIGHLY recommend you try the using the bait then. After 6 years of daily cockroaches, a week after I put out the bait stations I've been almost free of them. I had two come under the front door during a bad storm but it's been months since I've seen one of the buggers. Just be sure to keep the bait away from children and pets.

I can tell when an area is non-white because the park bathrooms have the stall doors missing and no soap in the dispensers, etc.. The more white an area, the better maintained the parks are.
@415oakland
@415oakland 2 года назад
Why do you think that is?
@supersnapp
@supersnapp 2 года назад
@@415oakland Typically, this is the stage when people attempt to come up with a reason which explains away the apparent difference in a way that is PC. PC means pretending that non-white societies produce as good an outcome and are as civilized as white societies. Being PC means just asserting things without providing evidence. PC means one can essentially know nothing and assert anything, as long as it passes through the PC approval meter. I have traveled extensively, and it is evident that different races have different outcomes. For example, North Asian public spaces and maintained differently from South Asian public spaces. One can be WOKE and try to fight reality and come up with reasons why they are related to something else or deal with the reality despite the apparent discrepancies. For example, one can't find examples of whites trying to immigrate to non-white societies. But non-whites always want to immigrate to white societies. When enough of them immigrate and have kids, the previously white society is reduced in its level to a sort of hybrid or middle point between white and non-white. I was just in St George a few days ago, and the city is very civilized. An opposite city from St George would be Yakima, which you can read about my analysis here. www.brightworkresearch.com/how-mexicans-and-agribusiness-ruined-yakima-washington/ Yakima, WA is no longer an American city. It is a hybrid between America and Mexico. I stayed one night and left the next day immediately. You can see the beginnings of non-white immigration. It is unfortunate and predictable. As soon as St George becomes less white, the non-whites will begin to move off their best behavior and act more like they do when there are more of them. That is, they conform less to white rules. St George is a very polite city. I am often in Phoenix and the West Coast, and I could not believe how polite people were to me. In just a few days, I saw more polite acts than would happen in months on the West Coast. As soon as St George becomes less white, you will see that politeness disappear. The whole point of denigrating white societies by saying there is no difference is for the elite to get more money from workers and say "all societies are the same" when it is obvious they are not. All races cannot produce the same outcomes. Better outcomes only come from adopting white societal rules. This is how Singapore became the best city in Asia through aggressive enforcement of European rules of behavior. However, Singapore still lags behind an entirely white city. By allowing non-whites, white societies are committing a type of suicide. This is what happened in South Africa. As soon as South Africa came under non-white rule, the civilization cratered. Every promise of the ANC has been broken. There is never any "Rainbow Nation," just one group replacing another group. The "Diversity-Rainbow Nation" stage is the intermediate stage before a complete takeover. This is because every group seeks to impose its dominance over society.
@415oakland
@415oakland 2 года назад
Shaun, Holy cow these most racist remarks I have ever read. And are incorrect too. Whites don’t migrate to non white areas.? The native Americans were here long before the colonizers. And 10 states were actually Mexico. Just to name two. So only countries that adopt white ‘ways’ will survive and thrive. Well, I guess St George is going to hell and a hand basket because I just moved into the area and I’m Mexican and I’m bringing my black child! And please delve into why the white parks are better maintained then the non white parks. It’s called money. Geez I’m done
@supersnapp

One problem also is the diversity in the state as well as jobs that have racism. I protested on Martin Luther King day and I say about 16% of the people didn't like it when I said end racism. I am noticing that majority of white people get jobs faster than the color people. This is not fair to the color people who have just the same credentials as the next person in line.
