Thanks for sharing this Jordan. I was running into the same problem when I original started out with just the satellite duo. The LA2A and 1176 was killing my DSP. Also, I'm glad you touch the subject on wanting a hybrid setup and being a gearslutz. I feel a lot of the new age engineers and producers frown upon professionals that have high end gear and/or hybrid setup. Saying things like "You don't need all of that." With that being said, you don't really need high end and hybrid gear to make great music but as professionals we definitely want to have the high quality gear to make the highest quality records. Also, it feels great to walk in the studio with gear that you know the smartest minds in pro audio handcrafted that outboard gear with love and passion. Once again, thanks for sharing this bro.
I'm thinking in your situation, if a client with deep pockets comes in your studio and won't do vocals through a simulation of a 1176, or a LA2A, you have to provide that to get the his business. That WOW factor gets the business.
Analog gear or even MIDI controllers can sell for you big time, on the other hand you see beatmakers with a laptop, M-audio controller and HS7 who just rip it. At the end of the day if you have the money I say it's nice to invest, is more like a statement and you should feel good in your workspace.
I'm in the process of upgrading my production studio and getting all my stuff either used or refurbished. I used to obsess about having the newest and shiniest gear but eventually realized that it's not gonna make or break me, only gonna break my bank
I literally JUST upgraded to pretty much the same setup. I have a MK II Twin Duo, and I just got the flagship Apollo 16. I cannot wait to get this puppy set up . Thanks for the video. Scared away all my buyer's remorse
First off amazing video. I grabbed an apollo 8p during that same sale. Cant believe so many people slept on it, but before the end of the year they were all sold out at sweetwater. The deal was so amazing I almost picked up 2 for the price. Lol Secondly I have been building my home studio in a hybrid fashion. I picked up the Avalon M5, UA 710, and must say I haven't looked back. If I can find another awesome deal on a Manley Voxbox I may cop that and be done with my preamp collection. I've purchased an amazing microphone cabinet collection in 2018 and now I'm working on getting more work and mixing done (Thought I was out of the Recording studio world, but it keeps calling me back!!!) Lastly I love to see other gear heads and RU-vid producers give love on each others youtube channels. Jordan you and Archie have helped me knock soooooo much dust off these old mixing ears. Rotfl, I watch you guys using new and different ways of mixing and add it to my collection. I also use other major engineers as learning experience. Welcome back and keep the information rolling.
Congratulations. I have an Apollo 8 and added an Apollo 8xp. Love their stuff. Congratulations. You too have GAS. (gear accusation syndrome). Lol. Check out the SSL Fusion and the IGS Rubber band EQ.
@JordanCriddle would you mind doing an in-depth video on your Heritage Audio pre-amp? Including how you’re using it in conjunction with the Apollo, how it’s setup and the difference in sound quality it provides?
Just bought open box A7x pair, got a GREAT deal. Will be moving from my "first" monitors (persons Elis E8's) to these, so I am really looking forward to the clarity.
Nice video. I looked into the Heritage73 preamp but ended up finding a Warm Audio wa73 demo unit on sale and got it ASAP. I haven’t used my UAD 1073 since. It’s amazing. Running through my Neumann tlm49. I’ve been tracking with the CL1B (UAD) still. My next goal is a kaotica eyeball even though my mic too fat too fit it and moving towards analog summing. Probably a D-Box. U should look into analog summing as well it’s next level shit. Felt like I had been betrayed for years for no one telling me about it. “Dangerous D-Box” is definitely the move.
I feel your journey bro. Did a similar thing with adding UAD DSP, I’m up to 8 cores. I currently use mostly UAD and Console 1 SSL strips for mixing. I feel you will be adding a summing box next, to step into the hybrid world. A D Box or SSL Sigma is in my future plans. Currently I’m doing the best with in the box emulation, using Waves NLS along with the Console 1 and a Behringer X Touch for that tactile hardware feel. It’s a good alternative for now and definitely adds some of the width and colour you get from analog summing.
The apogee duet sounds amazing too. I have a friend who has it and he tracked some vocals with it and I really like the sound, is different from the UAD apollo.
I’m getting the Adam A7x! I’m very excited... In another topic, don’t now what to do with the dsp because I use waves plugins... any suggestions? (Love your vlogs keep going man!)
Jorden. Thanks for sharing. I’m about to get into the Apollo Game. And I’m so confused as ever but I’m leaning. I don’t know which to buy 1st. I may end up buying two of them. Oh and I’m working the 9 to 5. So I’m about to go Reckless 💰 only because I don’t wanna work anymore.
Hey jordan, I had my Apollo twin moded for that upper harsh mid range you’re talking about. After getting the mod it got rid of that harshness and the sound was just so transparent and clear.
This video discussion was sick! Yeah, I know what you mean about it being “fate” - I bought the 6 plug-in bundle for Christmas and yeah, like you said. I’m running out of DSP so fast and already looking at a Satellite.. Got myself a Distressor, SSL stuff, Lexicon but can’t use much of it. ): It’s good not to be wreckless with money and I feel like the sales choose us. Lol - keep posting more stuff!!! 💯
Sweet video Jordan. I've been looking at investing in an Apollo rack mount as well but DAMN, I haven't even scratched the surface on all of the UAD plug-ins ;-; slowly but surely! haha. Would you say your UAD plugins are more or less the workhorse of your setup for mixing?
Good stuff bro! Not sure if you read my comment in ur last video - but u answered- Hybrid setup is the way to go!!! I got the Adam A8x so I know u love yours! What are your thoughts on a second pair to a/b them? I was thinking focal?
my next step is getting a amp for the reftone for a true mono monitor and using that to go back n forth between the adams. Eventually I would prob want to add another set and Focals always grab my attention so i'd prob lean that way. But yeah man really loving the A7x right now
Looking at the Apollo 16 mkII pictures, I dont see any jack inputs in the back? I mean... where do I plug my outboard preamps? Im currently using a RME FF800, but looking to upgrade. BUt the 16mkII dont have ANY inputs at all? Im sure Im missing something... Anyone explain what Im not getting? Cheers.
From my experience let's say like 30% better, the are more powerful, have more bass, better separation, better stereo image, they are made so you are less likely to have ear fatigue, they sound somewhat warmer, but it really depends on what you are doing and you room if you want to upgrade.
I’m thinking of replacing my Presonhs FaderPort cause it’s not working with Logic anymore. I got the classic. Missing the feel of using a fader to do gain staging so badly!!!
@@SAINTBROs it's Universal Audio's hardware accelerator technology that lets you offset their plugins processing power off of your CPU and loading it into their own technology so it free's up your computer's workload to let you run more plugins
@@SAINTBROsA lot of them have some. But not enough to run UAD's plugins. You would need to get a UAD interface to be able to take full advantage of their plugins
Sick bro glad you’re back I’m actually looking to sell some high end pieces if anybody is interested and in LA I have: Sony C800G Lauten Audio Atlantis Tube Tech CL1B Distressor EL8Xs Bricasti M7 SSL Sigma Antelope audio orion 32+
The apollo third generations are a significant improvement over the mkII. I'm wondering why you didn't go for the x16? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GngxT-vww3M.html
