I’ve discovered a universal truth: Rolex is dooshy. Modern Rolex, that is. That’s why a hipster may favor a 5-digit. And a Tudor looks like a 5-digit. Therefore it’s not dooshy. And I own Rolex x 2, as well as a vintage Tudor. Edit: there’s no question a Rolex is better.
Great to see u back... missed your videos..always fun, informative and no bs...btw..just got a 10 week old labrador who will start puppy classes next week and then obedience... also want your views on training and will read the book you recommending working with a young dog... trying to stop him from being so mouthy...
I'm pretty sure that aluminium bezels are photo-anodised, not merely printed. The ink used actually sinks into the structure of the metal a small way and is then sealed there as part of the manufacturing process. The resulting oxide layer is very hard. Same as a Pepsi can actually!
Rolex will always be better than Tudor. No one should be arguing this. What Rolex is now doing is allowing Tudor to make a stake in the stainless watches while Rolex focuses more on precious metals. This year’s Rolex releases clearly show this. Only one model was released that was under 30k (the SS GMT) Also, why would Rolex allow Tudor to release a budget Sub if they weren’t trending into the precious metal space.
@@Andrew-yy2ye I definitely wouldn’t be embarrassed by wearing a Rolex these days. Yes, they are not easily accessible for most folks. However, they are the most desired and recognized watch brand in the world for a reason. Of course there are better watch brands out there. It just comes down to wear what you like.
Surely this is subjective? Your rant shows bias. The trouble with Rolex, is that they were watches with a purpose based existence. But they have become so fancy, that my friends keep their Rolexes in the safe. It's too special, to wear it. Now, compare that to a Pelagos. So the watches have literally taken different paths. The days of using Rolex cases, with ETA movements is long gone. So comments like this need to stop. They're just made by old men who can't see what's happening.
@@verynormalman My “rant” is not subjective, but factual. Just look at this year’s Rolex and Tudor releases. Your friends choosing not to wear their Rolex is their own choice. I know plenty of people that wear theirs as a daily driver, GMT’s, YM, DJ, DD, etc. Unless you guys live in London or LA you should be ok with wearing them out. Also, your rant just proved my point that Rolex is valued more than Tudor with your buddies locking up their Rolexes and wearing Tudors instead. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Tudor. They are a solid watch maker that are giving the masses what they want unlike another major METAS certified brand. I do agree that Tudor has shook off the “poor man’s Rolex” label and can stand on their own, but Rolex will always have the upper hand. Tudor just released an 18k BB58, which retails for 32K. We all know no one is actually going to spend 32K on a Tudor, but if the same watch had a crown logo on it then you better believe people would want it. My point is that Tudor will take over a lot of Rolexes sub 10K space if Rolex continues to shift primarily into precious metals. Tudor absolutely beat out Rolex this year. Rant over.
Welcome Back, Marc. I Just took delivery of (last week) of a YM40 Rhodium dial from my AD. He then asked me what Tudor I wanted next, looking a Pelagos, just not sure which one. I own 3 Tudors now, they are great watches, and I believe they could charge more. I do need to let the wallet recover some, though before I dive in (hahahahaha) to a Pelagos.
There's a famous phrase, "those that can, do, those that can't teach". I wish to update this as, "those that can, wear a Tudor, those that can't, are awaiting their watch from the AD and are working out how much money they'll make, when they sell it, and I'll wear my homage watch until my beloved Rolex comes, but then I'll sell it because i can make a profit, but I can always keep wearing my homage, and bore everyone senseless by talking about the Rolex I owned, but I infer that I still own it".
I 100% agree with you about Tudor using aluminium bezels instead of ceramic. I thought I was the only crazy guy thinking that. I'd surely get a Tudor if they used ceramic.
I love both, own from both and i think for the money either beat the competition. Wilsdorf foundation make exceptional pieces that you can enjoy all your life and pass on.
Own both as well. You are not wrong. But I am completely satisfied with my meta certified burgundy BB movement. Do wish bezel was ceramic. I also feel more comfortable in the city with Tudor over Rolex. And if I am mugged for a watch, the monetary loss of the Tudor will hurt much less
I admit that I like Rolex and Tudor. I have three Tudors, date day 36 mm , just serviced at Rolex . Tudor Submariner 36 mm and my Tudor Hydronaut I , blue Dial with the Rolex triple locking crown 200 meter water resistant automatic ETA movement, all this for $1866 USD. The essence of Tudor is Rolex quality at a more affordable price.
Not a question related to this post, but who came up with the Rolex nicknames I.e. Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, etc. In my opinion these nicknames cheapens the brand. Never understood why this is.
Tudor does make nice watches, but it will never be a Rolex. Just the name on the timepiece is something special and that’s just a fact…like it or not. Both great watches with their own identities.
Tudor is for losers. It’s the cayman/boxer against a 911 turbo. If you cannot afford the Rolex you want, just buy an Omega (not at retail). Or save your money for the Rolex. A Tudor will never make you happy and it will never retain value. Your friends will mock you, your girlfriend will not respect you.
What constitutes “better”? I own pieces by both brands..one has become elitist & one is everyday luxury. Roles is purposefully more refined with more finesse than Tudor - that’s deliberate: but as one vs the other, not sure that’s “better”
Well, for me, Tudor has to be better than Rolex! Why you ask? After buying three luxury watches and some jewelry for my wife, my AD still does not believe that I am worthy of Rolex! Since I refuse to pay over retail on the gray market, I am not being given the privilege of comparing!
First, they are different watches. People need to realize that if you want a Rolex, buy a Rolex period. I love both, and let's be real. Most people will not spend the money on a Tudor. Only us crazy people that are in this hobby. Peace!!
I respect your views but for one. I HATE ceramic bezels and that is why I will never buy the 2018 seamasters. I love my Tudor reverse panda and miss y bb41 red bezel Tudor. Aging and patina for me make a watch much more interesting. My 1994 Bond seamaster was stunning with all of it's beautiful patina.😊
Unfortunately the reasons for why Rolex is better are pretty thin. Finishing of the watches? Barely.. However more people want Rolex. The problems they’re about to face though is: Diluted grey market Grey dealer purchase favoritism AD or now directly poor treatment of customers, remember they bought bucherer. The negative far outweigh the positive. While Tudor is becoming what Rolex used to be. In 2-3 years time Rolex can be out of favor
Why keep on saying the history look what we had today with Tudor it’s not a mid level now it’s more on a higher mid…. We should accept the reality how Tudor have improved from the pass…
Did you say attack? OK! Your reason #1 isn't really a reason. Yes Rolex started as Rolex, Tudor a little later. Your reason #2 is correct but many people could care less about ultra finishing which even Rolex is not the best at. Your reason #3 is the same as your reason #1. Snobs are snobs, and yes Tudor has their snobs too. Your reason #4 is weird. Tudor is almost a Rolex, but not quite. Yes, you are right. And neither is Omega, Blancpain, Grand Seiko, or JLC. Your reason #5 is correct. Rolex has more classic designs. But I believe that Tudor gave up on many designs and didn't continue with some great classic watches. Tudor went 20 years (1990-2010) in some sort of a funk. Not sure what happened. Poor leadership and lack of vision maybe? Tudor could easily go back in their archives to bring back some awesome classic watches (Prince date, Date Day, Big Block Chronograph, etc.) in updated fashion. I wish Tudor would do that. And your last Ceramic comment? OK, yes Tudor only has 6 ceramic bezel watches in their line-up (All Pelagos). Obviously Rolex is holding Tudor back on this front. No other reason for it. The Crown is worried about the Shield taking more of a share which goes back to your reason #5 of classic designs. Rolex is holding Tudor way back! Attack over!
I think the rivets comments are surreal - they are barely visible - and maybe even a nice subtle touch anyway - of all the issues that one I think is not one of them!
@GlobalShutterNY To me it makes the watch look antiquated. The clean lines of the oyster bracelet is what I like. Rolex/Tudor only puts rivets on Tudor to "ugly it up" so it doesn't compete as directly with Rolex. It's a marketing thing to keep Rolex as the superior choice.
Marc have been coming into your youtube page once a week for the last few months and was about to write to you on instagram asking where you are So happy for the new video and dont leave us this long again!!
You are a bad boyfriend. Come and go, disappear for a bit and come and go again. We want you here with us often. Question- would you choose the new gmt or the lefty if you had to choose.
