Another big downside of Rolex is the amount of counterfeit out there. U cannot tell who is wearing a genuine or a fake Rolex which make the genuine owner feels ‘shameful’ wearing one
“A british guy named Hans Wilsdorf”😂 we have all heard of those British guys named Hans. In fact, he was German and only took British citizenship when he was in his mid 70s (1955).
Things to like... 6) Assuming it's worn...the Rolex is an instant family heirloom. 7) Parts are available for vintage models (the Rolex of today will be a vintage model eventually). So that's nice. 8) There are lots of videos and IRL watchmakers around who can confirm a real Rolex and what should come within the box. Things to hate... 6) -2 to +2 s per day...no one wants to be late...should be 0-4s imo, i know it doesn't sound as glitzy...but still no one wants a watch losing time. 7) There is a visceral dislike for the brand among my friends (blue collar workers...) it's kind of 'uppity.'' They assume a Rolex = $10k...they've never even checked the prices of AD or used items. They do, however, tolerate my explorer 40. -YMMV
people can cry all they want about the AD situation, but when you finally get one, there's nothing more special than solid Rolex piece on the wrist. Its not high horology, but its a dang solid watch worth paying a few extra thousand than an Omega that loses 30% of the value when you walk out the door.
The brand name Rolex is quite appealing. I love that ending scene with The Founder with Michael Keaton playing Ray Croc on why he wanted to own and buy McDonalds. It's because of the name. There may be better watches or fancier watches but Rolex will always have the highest brand recognition.
ADs have the power and strength in numbers to change the game. Rolex makes more watches than any luxury watch company in the world. They could easily fill AD cases with watches if they wanted to. I’ve owned 14 Rolex watches over the past 20 years. I sold the precious metal ones Pre-Covid and released another 4 or 5 in the last three years. I’ve bought birth year DJ watches for my 3 kids when they turned 30. I still own and wear 6 SS Rolex watches, all 5 numeral models. I’m done with Rolex. Why? Because there are numerous companies building much better watches at better prices and making them available when I want them, not when they want me to have them. I’ve never considered owning a Rolex a special privilege, just the tangible result of years of saving and hard work. Now it’s just a flex to own a Rolex. Makes me sad.
Just a shame you can’t walk into a AD and buy a Rolex, when I last bought a Rolex in 2009 (a GMT Master) I got it at a reduced price because no one wanted them.
I appreciate you are American and don't speak the King's English, but Toooooder is actually pronounced with a "Ch"..... "Chooder" if you will. The "T" is like you would pronounce the "Ch" in the word "Church". As for the rest of the video.... It'd not really worth commenting in...
Here’s the way to buy Tudor. Wait. Wait more. Add time. Just enjoy your own collection and wait. A few years after they have been released and readily available in an AD window drive a hard bargain on the used market. GMTs were once the shit. Now they lie gathering dust in secondary sellers windows with barely a mark. It’s just dynamic pricing style spiking of demand and supply. Economics 101. Don’t be a victim.
I own Rolex 1665, 5517, 16800, 5512, 116500, YET my most worn and favorite daily wear watch is the BB54. I wear what I like, and I really like the BB54.
All of these tactics are all fun and games until the hype dies down. Yes, during Covid days, this tactics would have been "okay". But with more and more inventory, it would be difficult for these AD's to sell just like how it was pre-covid. From the stories I've heard, AD's were struggling to sell pre-covid with some of the models are even discounted. Models such as the Sub Hulk. AD's keep playing these games with customers willing to pay 10k plus, when the tides turn which it will, they will struggle to sell. Gotta keep in mind to, 3 new Rolex factories will be opening soon!
Nice watch, ill have it someday but in the meantime I got its little brother this week. Tudor BB Panda is a great watch & will keep me satisfied till the bottom drops out & people sell for a reasonable rate. Congrats
What crash ? Its just the watch market returning to sane levels, that existed before covid. The desirable Rolex Sports models, are still impossible to obtain from your AD, and even if the prices have fallen, the majority are still trading well above retail, on the Grey market. So what crash ?
I have been waiting for a TT Daytona with a national AD for over 2 years. Five months ago I was offered the current reference with diamonds, which has gold subdials, but it wasn't my taste. I said I'd wait for the regular black dial rather than purchasing one I didn't love. During the wait, I have purchased a Cartier Santos, a watch I really like, from the same salesperson. Hopefully the Daytona becomes available soon.
Goldberg you’re back. Still gonna break you balls when I told you the market was gonna crash when you said Panda was going to $100K lol. Still one of the most memorably bad predications ever made. That said, I hope you’re doing well
Such silly games they play. You waited 3 years to buy a watch from a specific store playing head games with you when you could’ve just bought it on a random evening from a grey market for a couple grand more? How much is your time worth? Did you really want the watch THAT bad that you weren’t willing to just fork out a couple grand to get something 3 years earlier? Silly.
Imagine you are in High School and the best looking Cheer Leader is your Rolex AD, except, that SHE is the actual Rolex ... so, ask yourself, how are YOU going to get that Rolex ...
