Great video. Don't forget to replace the timing belt according to factory specifications. That is the weak spot of the engine. If it ever breaks you pretty much have to replace the entire engine. And they burn a little bit of oil by design so check oil level every now and then and add if nedded. Use oem oil filter and full synthetic oil.I have 2006 with 170k miles. I love this thing. This is by far the best vehicle I've owned.

I’m currently driving the GX’s cheaper sibling, a 2003 4Runner with the 2UZ engine. My Grama was the first owner, I’m now the 2nd. And even at 296k on the clock, it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever had the pleasure of daily driving ❤ In the unlikely event my baby ever blows up or starts rusting away to the point it’s unsafe, I wouldn’t bat an eye picking up an ‘03-‘07 GX. For now though, I’ll just keep up on the maintenance with my T4R and pay the $1500 premium to have Toyota do timing belt jobs every 90k.

Great vehicle for sure and yours looks to be in pristine condition. You said the engine would last forever by just keeping the oil changed, however you missed the biggest and most important maintenance items for the 4.7, timing belt and water pump. If the timing belt fails the engine is trashed so it needs to be changed every 100k miles. I have a friend who bought a V8 4Runner (same engine) and they didn’t know about this particular maintenance requirement. At 250k miles, the timing belt failed. The engine was turned into a boat anchor and the vehicle was scrapped. You are correct about these engines hitting a million miles, just gotta take care of all the maintenance items. Nice video!

Hey Brian, thanks for watching! I didn’t miss it per se, I just didn’t mention it in this video. See my video before this about what to look for when buying a GX and you will see I go into the timing belt and water pump there. Watch my video before that about me discussing the purchase of my GX, and I discuss how I waited 4 months before buying this one, because I was specifically looking for one that had the timing belt and water pump done already and documentation. My point being with the video and like you said as well, they can last forever, but obviously standard maintenance has to be done. I appreciate the comment, you are 100% correct!

I just got a Lexus GX 470 and I have not driven one b/4 the DAC light is on making the RPM to rise with it I consume fuel,I don't know how to Operate the low and high range gear, I can't move until I engaged the low range gear and how do I remove DAC light from the dashboard.

To get to 1 million miles you would to do 10 timing belt and water pump jobs at about $1200 a price! That's $12,000 into just the timing belt on that engine. Good to go? It's an interference engine so it's a must every 90,000 mile.

@@bigfootnmore6619 I agree with what you said. But that still remains a far lower cost than buying a new or CPO vehicle(s) and eating the depreciation each time to try and potentially reach that many miles.

I. bought a 2008 GX with full dealer matience the car has 190K miles, the thing that bugs me is the horrible gas mileage, maybe 12 MPG.

12 is good for a gx 470, most used ones now with 190k+ can get lower than that freeway

Thanks for watching Joe. I spoke to the transmission shop after this video was made. They said the previous owner had a tear in her transmission line, which caused a leak of fluid. The previous owner ignored the leaks in her driveway and basically ran the transmission dry, which caused the internal failure.

Hey Rob, i have 2005 gx470.. recently brake fluid was keaking i found that brake reservoir cap was loose and a screw of brake cable on back was also loose, my mechanic tight the screw and i changed reservoir cap as well but next day i got abs and brakes lights ON now mechanic says youll have to change abs module whilst i think there must be air bcz it was working fine.. he did bleed as well but still i have same problem.. pressure on back is not good while front brakes pressure is fine. ... what should i do?? Any suggestions??

Hey Ahmad, since you had a leak, make sure you have enough fluid in the reservoir. I would then disconnect the battery for five minutes and reconnect. See if it goes away. Otherwise it might just be a weird coincidence that happened and then you got the abs and brake lights. Check your front axle bearing for any leaks. A failure could disrupt abs signal. If not, if no leaks, it very well could be the sensor needs to be replaced or just cleaned. If they get gunked up they won’t work properly. Good luck!

Owners manual and gas tank area says premium fuel only. I put in 91 or 93.

Bro, great find! That looks good for 2007 with 150k miles... that’s a baby not even hitting the puberty yet. I see that you’re from New Jersey... any rust from salt?

Thanks man, I appreciate it! I agree, a lot of life left in this one. Some minor surface rust on the bottom of some parts of the frame, which I will address with a wire wheel and some Por-15. But no rot or anything crazy. Thanks for watching!

So should I not be concerned that before it hit 150,000 miles it already needed a new transmission and a new catalytic converter?

I wouldn’t be. Factors come into play, high miles being one of them. Can’t avoid these things sometimes. If you replaced it, you should have another 150kish miles out of it.

If you go on auto tempest there are definitely some GX for around that price with similar miles being sold by dealers. However, there are far more with less miles or similar miles for $15-19k. So you would probably be buying at the top end.

After 3 months of searching for a car in this market, I got lucky and bought a 2006 GX 470 with 155K miles for $10,500, new rotors, pads, calipers, tires, and 100% garaged from the original owner--a soccer mom who seems to have driven it like a baby. Looks like a 5 year old vehicle and drives like a dream. No history of a timing belt change, no stickers, nor any recollection from her. The way she drove it probably didn't put too much stress on it, but to be safe, I already ordered the replacement kit with water pump included.

The lexus GX 460 is based on the prado, not the 470. The 470 is based on the land cruiser.

The prado is a Land Cruiser model, just the smaller version. The LX (either gen) is the one based on the full sized Land Cruiser, not the 470 or 460. Both 470 and 460 are based on the Land Cruiser Prados of the same year.
