Recently we had the opportunity to take a look at the 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec to see how it fares against the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. The RDX's spacious interior is going to make this crossover appealing for families. With the A-Spec package, you're going to have more of an aggressive and dynamic appearance, while also have suede inserts for the seats. While tech is lacking, the Acura RDX A-Spec might be a great option if you're on a budget.

Not sure whats not to like about the track pad, its pretty easy to use. It's better than a toouch screen

I had a 21 rdx tech package took getting used to but now don’t think I could go back. I had an accident last week a bad one with a Subaru. Car was speeding and hit me head on. His car was demolished, my car was totaled but I walked away with air bag and seat belt burns. I’m convinced it’s the safest car out there.

I have a 2021 Volvo XC60 Inscription and knowing what I know now about it, I would have rather had the RDX Advance. Why? Because of a few things that are missing and/or quirks of the Volvo. The XC60 doesn’t have fully automated heated and cooled seats, the heating is automated to a degree. It will come on automatically but it won’t scale down as needed like the RDX. RDX has a better standard sound system. The RDX has a much bigger engine, 250 vs 272 hp. The auto high beams don’t stay on from one day to the next. Mine came with built in child booster seats in rear which negated the ability to have heated seats in the second row. However the Pilot Assist is really nice and it does have some other safety features not found in the RDX like large animal detection.

We love Honda products but they can be slow to adapt to new tech. CX5 vs RDX is where I’m at now. Thinking about trading in a Grand Touring CX5 for the Advance model. Love the ride of the RDX but the brake noise, reported by many, is concerning. Other than that it looks like a SUV.

I wish they had a V6 option. The 4 cylinder doesn't have low end torque like the V6. The engine has to rev higher before you feel something there. So, if you have the previous gen ( V6 was the only engine for those who don't know ) the 4 cylinder might disappoint you.

I'm not sure why people set such great store by touchscreen tech. My IT support has always told us to stay away from touchscreen laptops because they frequently have issues. Is the same true for auto screens? Has this been fully vetted and how, since the tech hasn't been available in cars that long? I suspect this is why Acura/Honda has avoided them to date.

I have a 2014 Mazda3 that has a touchscreen but also the little control knob on the center console and I rarely, if ever, use the touchscreen portion. It's just so easy to navigate using the buttons/knob on the center console, especially when driving. Once you get use to the center console controls I don't see why the lack of a touchscreen is such a deal breaker for many.

I have had touchscreens in three different Audis and I have had the touch pad in two Acuras. The touch pad is a horrible interface that requires you to look both at the touch pad and the display screen. The Audi touchscreen is 100% reliable (they actually have two touch screens in my vehicle). As a note, even boats have large touch screens and being in an outdoor, salt environment is an abusive environment - and yet they work 100% reliably on a boat as well. The bottom line, Acura does not want to pay for the more expensive touch screen. By the way, I have a Masters Degree in Computer Science and have designed and implemented software and hardware systems for 35 years. Your IT guys are wrong. If it were true, why would you have a touchscreen iPhone, iPad, etc? Their argument is archaic and makes zero sense, especially with cars.

What does your comment mean about people wanting "German" engineering? Why don't you define that including the reliability and maintenance costs over several years vs. Honda or Toyota products.
@joskjj3625
@joskjj3625 Год назад
Here’s the thing the only reason why German engineering is “unreliable” in your view is because you couldn’t afford to own a German car in the first place so what do you do? You cheap out on not doing maintenance to save money and you destroy your car,the problem with German automakers is they are making too many low priced cars for people who can’t afford a real German luxury car so they price their cars to cater to people who want the badge but German automakers still require expensive parts and expensive maintenance so you still can’t afford maintenance in the first place. German cars require money and attention if you don’t have either then it’s your fault your car is having problems,plus i still don’t understand the hype around Honda automobiles there quality has tanked miserably and they are no where as reliable as Toyota,why get a modern Honda when you can get a better built Mazda,Toyota or even a Hyundai and Kia?
@NBPT428
@NBPT428 Год назад
@@joskjj3625 I'm probably older than you because I've owned three german cars over a 25 year period. I could afford them then and I could afford one now. I take meticulous care of every car I've owned. afford them and they were maintained by the book. A BMW 633csi with a 4 speed manual, a Porsche 911S Targa with a 5 speed manual. and an Audi A6 Wagon bought new which repeatedly had problems both recurring and new,. I sold it before the end of the warranty. Most of the time the dealer wasn't sure how to fix it. I wrote a letter to the then President of Audi North America and got a gracious letter and apology and a request to give them another chance. You are welcome to buy what you want. My experience was one I don't choose, not one I can't afford. My Honda's are my choice. Thanks for replying, have a great day.

Interesting. I don’t think people stopped buying the RDX solely because they prefer German engineering. For years Acura’s styling has been seriously lacking, to say the least. Not just Acura, by the way; Honda as a company. They rested on their laurels for way too long. However, recently there has been a resurgence at the company, and it is evident in products like the Accord, the new Civic, this RDX, and certainly the new MDX.

Recent obsession with performance? Apparently not familiar with Acura
@BostonAutoBlog
@BostonAutoBlog 2 года назад
I'm very familiar with the Acura brand, which is why you can't tell me with a serious face that what Acura was doing in the time between the TL/TSX era and the reemergence of the NSX nameplate was anything close to being performance inspiring. What Acura was producing from 2009-2016 is nowhere close to what they're doing now with the Type S line and even their non performance models.
@04tsxpower
@04tsxpower 2 года назад
@@BostonAutoBlog 😂 I’m talking well before that for Type S model. You pretty much proved my point no clue. Type S now is slowest in its class and is no where near what they use to be. But hey thx for playing along.
@BostonAutoBlog
@BostonAutoBlog 2 года назад
Actually you proved my point since I said their return to a performance lineup was recent. The TLX Type S can only truly be compared to the Cadillac CT5 as it’s significantly larger than the Audi S4 and BMW M340i and in fact is only 2 inches smaller than a 5 Series. If anything it doesn’t really belong in the compact luxury sedan segment, but the pricing is what makes it competitive and it undercuts the mid-size market by a wide margin. Also performance goes way beyond straight line speed as its handling capabilities is on par with the S4 Speaking of the Type S badge, the MDX Type S is going to outperform it’s closest rivals, while once again undercutting the European competitors to give buyers an affordable alternative. Interesting that you only focused on the Type S (and only the TLX) as the re-introduced NSX put Acura back on the map. Let me guess the sub 3 second 0-60 time isn’t good enough?
@04tsxpower

@@BostonAutoBlog you can write novel my man but your still repeating yourself . Post measurements of cars all you want it's being compared to audi, Mercedes and BMW despite what you think and your unbiased opinion 😉. Far as mdx will end up against GLC 43 no comparison. Yes TL TYPE S was my original comparison why wouldn't I stick with it? The OG of the brand then not now. NSX goes without saying it's the original power for honda and everything trickles down through line up because of it. Those yrs were so dominant because of the Senna enspired NSX. This car goes without saying and you pumping your original argument. New TYPE S is nice all around car but that's it.

One really good reason NOT to buy. Their tech stack is terrible and the touch pad interface is impossible to use and dangerous. Unlike everyone touchpad interface in the world, it is not “drag the cursor”. He calls it a trackpad. You have to touch specially on the touchpad - the area on the pad where you touch matches to the area on the screen. Yet the touchpad function becomes drag and drop for Apple CarPlay or Android. It also adds a split screen with a scroll option. I am a technologist with a Masters Degree in Computer Science and I find the touchpad VERY confusing, inaccurate and dangerous. You are constantly looking at the display screen and the touchpad. This is very dangerous, even for people like me who are used to many different types of interfaces. I have owned Acura RDXs MDXs since 2011 and will never buy another one until they change this. THIS IS NOT JUST SOMETHING THAT YOU LEARN TO LIVE WITH - IT IS CRITICAL FUNCTIONALITY.
