I heard a billionare once say that poor people work for money and rich make money work for them. Its also knowing the difference between an asset and liabilities. Keep up the great videos.

Your insight into the industry is spot on. I try and explain this career path to people and they look at me like I'm bonkers. I liken it to a medical career. Where you may have tondo 10/15 before you get the recognition as a master of the craft.

Great advice I’m in the same boat since Covid just doing the odd job but keen to get bad to work. Did a couple of PR jobs and a wedding, all word of mouth and an old client.

This was the right amount of reassurance and kick and the pants to keep moving. I'm just under 4 years in, I've had a really solid client with regular bookings in the low-mid 4 figures range, a few other small headshot and branding shoots for my local network/friends here and there. Bills are covered but not much more. Still trying to turn the overthinking down on the marketing but I'm making agency connections slowly. I'm definitely in the slogging phase. With that said I'm happy with my portfolio growth and direction. I think it's time to have you rip it apart in a review! Haha

Here's a reply to an old comment. I think success in photography is 80% personality, 10% talent or at least copying trendy styles, and 10% basic business skills. I've seen this across all photography disciplines. There is a reason photogs like this guy dress in hipster outfits and can communicate well. That's the bulk of success. Agents and clients eat that up. He even says that clients do not have him shoot the way he likes to shoot in his personal work for the main ad campaign, as the art buyers just want to play it safe and are hacks. It all comes down to who they want to hang out with.

Thanks for the advice. What would you say the outlook is for someone in their mid-forties, currently working full-time as a non-photographer, parent to newborn, very little expendable income and suffering from an exhausting chronic illness. I'm trying to practice when I can, but it's extremely challenging. I agree that 10 years is about right to get good at something, but I'm wondering what I should realistically be aiming for.

Can you show some of your photos from that early time? One of the things that's difficult about figuring out what to charge is not knowing where I am on the scale of quality.

Thanks Here is my question please What amount do you think if photographer must make minimum ? I know there are many facts involved in this My question is how many is ok to keep going do photography in uk only every country is different I know that In my case I make 30000 a year max honestly I am thinking if I keep make every next year I think better find other job because 7 days busy with client what is the Point if I can find a job pay me that mentioned amount without kind of headache ? What do you think please your honest feedback!

Thanks, I needed this. Recently got the opportunity to do a test shoot for my ideal client. Feedback was quite positive, and they asked me back for three more 'test' shoots this year. I'd love to work with them, but the fact they're not actually booking me (someone else is doing that in parallel) is confusing the hell out of me. Any tips on what to do next?

@@chrisrussell7035 you're right, but there's also an opportunity there. That's what makes it difficult to say no: there are no similar clients in my area so getting their business is really important.

Anyone have opinions on the value of what is called a vanity toll-free number (e.g., here in the US someone who does pet photos might have 1-800-PET-PICS)?

big percentage just shoot stuff with ther 1000eu phone , the rest buy camera and 2 ligths , and hire full time 20yo photographer/editor/sosial media /reseptionist/ big jobs just go directly to throw big company that do everything in house , and the rest that want to get a photographer want the job do so cheap is not worth it ,

When I go on Instagram, I see a very wide variety of images, all with different unique looks to them, some are spectacular and others are mundane. I don’t believe there is a way to take photos that don’t look apart from what’s on Instagram because everything is one there, so you must mean something else. Could you please be a bit more specific or give some examples of what you mean by that?

Does anyone know what point he was trying to make at 1:44?.. All I hear is a story about how he upped to 750, got no work and then upped to 1200 and magically got more work. No reason why, no explanation as to why this method worked, literally just sounds like a boast about how he was able to charge more than double and get the same amount of work. Seriously, what point are you trying to make because that entire anecdotal story sounds like some dumb luck to me. Not trying to rip into you by the way, just genuinely confused as to why you wasted so much time talking about the pricing and then just sped on to the next point. Explain please?

Sorry I didn't explain that point very well. No clients exist at certain price points. Small clients might have 500, larger ones might have 1200, but no one has 700 budget so there is no point in being at that price. It's called a black hole price. At the commercial end no one charges 6k a day, because its too hight for the 2k a day people, but not in the price range of a 10k client. And a 10k client will spend the full 10k rather than going with someone cheap. Hope that makes better sense.
