Thanks for the reminder on chords. I do that exact thing now with 9th, 11th and 13th chords. Usually playing the root and the fifth with my left and the other notes with my right. I keep the root and fifth throughout and then play the inversions with my right until it repeats. I use the same technique with the minor version’s where appropriate for the sound. I work around the circle of fifths until the cycle is completed. You can then start adding the modified versions of those chords and do the same thing.

Hey no problem! Its sounds like you are adding a bit of 'extra' into your chordal practice! I will try this myself actually :)

@@UgniusPianist As I get into the the unfamilare keys, fingerings go out the window. I took a break for a while with the singing I had.

I assume you have studied species counterpoint. Playing a block chord exercise that incorporates the 4th species of counterpoint would be 👍👍. It will require some thought…but if your up for coming up with one…I am willing to help put one together. I’m not sure if anyone asks you questions like that..but I figured I would. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and videos. I’m currently working on techniques you showed on the Brahms exercises.

Hey! Your idea sounds really interesting, and yes you're right - this would require some though... I guess I am up for doing this but when the time is right and I have a bit more spare time! To make videos is becoming a bit more difficult now that concerts picked up again and the teaching business is expanding, but I love RU-vid videos! I will definitely look into your suggestion! 💥💥💥

Another twist is to pick a mode like locrian…and play chords based off that mode. This obviously adds a level of difficulty to playing block chords up the modal scale. It’s quite fun and is a great way to become familiar with modes and sharpen your knowledge of harmony.
