We can always hope the vert makes a comeback - one of the problems, of course is that it's that weird dichotomy of being [IMO] the most exhilirating discipline to watch and, at the same time, the hardest to approach [if you retain a normal level of sanity, that is]... Essentially, we need to get enough skaters coming through for the vert skaters to shake themselves out of the mix.
Well to start, it has to be bowls. Vert ramps are hard to come by these days. But there is a lot bowl activity, especially with the whole CIB thing. Sadly tho, much of the inline community is older, rusty, and refuse to wear pads. So they just wanna chill and session a ledge. Bmx recently had the fast and loose video, which is inspiring many. Skateboarders have brands like blood wizard which are really pushing it too, and Tony hawk starter vert alert. Olympics had park, which was just a bowl. Still tho, when i go to a park, the bowl is often the least used part of the park.
@@freedomcaller There needs to be a lot more thought put into bowl design then...many of them rely on the tired kidney shape and are, in many cases, pretty close to the actual size of a kidney :)
@@johniscariot5582 I'm lucky to be in seattle, where we have tons of bowls with insane shapes and sizes. Tho to be fair, since I have the ability to choose, there are like 2 great ones, 5 or 6 pretty solid ones and the rest are kinda trash.
I've been learning to skate vert for 6 months, a new blood, loving it! Fellow vert skaters are few and far between though on the Gold Coast, I'm a trend setter :)
Dont forget buying regular rollerblades to get familiar with the feel of rollerblades and taking out the two wheels in the middle of the frame that where connected to the boot and taking a file and file down the middle of the frames to create a groove in the middle of the frames for a better grind before grooves in the frames where created also taking the brakes off the back of the rollerblades
Didn't see that one coming with the Patreon teaser post 🔥 As a "New Age" blader these are so good man. I learn more and more about blading. Spotty Dog.
Ahh the sweet memories! I remember ramming socks and an extra pair of tongues in my skates. Good times. I also remember the monstrous vert at Southsea skatepark and I still hear songs to this day that remind of video parts from back in the day.
We used to sew triangles of fabric into our jeans to make them flare out in the 90s (Bryan Bell style). Then it switched to not covering your skates with your jeans. i still remember being at a skate park in Cornwall and the pros coming down from London with their jeans tucked into their skates. It was the weirdest, coolest thing i'd ever seen - Then the tounges kicked off. I had about 4 socks rolled up under my laces on my K2 fattys - A method I stole from Paul o Toole when I saw him at PlayStation skate park. Nostalgia trip!
I love inline vert. I wish it was still popular. The tricks they do on vert these days are FREAKING CRAZY. Great to see a channel dedicated to inline. You're right about vert ramps though Our local park used to have a huge vert ramp. But few riders used the intimidating vert ramp. So they actually tore down what was an insanely nice and expensive vert ramp.
Nostalgia is so important. Loved this little trip down memory lane. Yellow puberty grind plates, memorising VG 4, learning to grind and get a bit of air on Rehab's vert - good times!
Vert is fucking dope. Its so unexplored. Eito and Takeshi just scratched the surface of whats possible on blades nearly 20 years ago and there has to be skaters out there that can push the limits and show the world how awesome vert skating is. Eito was such a stylish skater the way he used his legs to generate rotation. Watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9PS0FfVTMno.html and tell me the xgames doesnt need this nowadays.
LOVE THE CHANNEL😂 I remeber well beefing out my skates… BUT we did even go a bit further… I remember having a pair of the yellow fatty where I kinda ripped off that front pad to make it look smaller (plus having the socks stuffed in them)… On the style points bob you even could remove it without ‚destroying‘ the skate… and that‘s what I did… oh dear.
@@TomMoyse at the time I felt like a king but looking back we did some pretty funny things in the early days of rollerblading, I even cut up a pair of axion skate shoes and stuck them to my skates during the fat puffy phase haha, thanks for providing a vital service to the skate community tom you absolute champ!
I’m so happy you mentioned dipskate as a skater who grew up in nyc and also was from Harlem where dipset was from they really unified the hood and skaters together and kept a lot of people out of trouble
@@TomMoyse I’m friends with ramelle knight he’s been trying to make a comeback and there was talks bring king dipskate back with him and Calvin but only time will tell
Came across this vlog today. I laughed so much coz it really took me back to the good ol' days. I remember when those grind plates were the thing. But living in a country where its hard to get thoz i had an idea to use a chopping board and it worked perfectly. The problem was it was the chopping board that my mum used and i got an extreme mouthful from me mum. Lol! Good times.
Coming out with the original content, awesome to see your subs increasing fast. Voice of blading 2022 🤣 go have yourself a cup of tea and a wagon wheel, you’ve earned it 👍
If your skates have only 1 tongue you're doing it wrong hahah. I loved the huge skate era, I remember skating Xsjado at the time which I loved but I was so jealous of my friends with their massive Razors and Remz. Cheers for the trip down memory lane mate.
I live in the states. In New Jersey. I haven’t t seen a vert ramp in years. Only one I know of is in the backyard if a former pro skateboarder. I wanna skate Vert again so bad.
I personally would love to see skates come out in a larger variety of colors. Most of the skates these days are either in Black, slightly less black, White, slightly less white, and grey. It gets pretty boring in my opinion.
VG8 “Ocho”>BFG>WDYBI>Emagdnim> while snacking on peanut butter bagels. Thanks for bringing it all back T Dog! BTW how long does it take you to edit!? The green screen is an excellent accompaniment mate ✊🏻
Man thanx for mentionin the vert thing... I'm searching like so hard to find a vert to skate on anywhere man... concrete plazas everywhere but where them goold old woody transition parks at ?!
I filmed a lot more for that section and talked about mega ramp/nitro etc but ended up cutting it out. That’s defo where it went. It became even easier for people to digest and more of a spectacle
Word. Feel like digging on some old cd-rs with early internet videos and clips. 2001-2 era. I wonder what's on em. Still got a VHS called heart lying around too. No player tho
Haehehe! I remember having some old Osiris shoes tongues cut off, stuffed with toilet paper and shoved into my busted up 3rd hand Roces 5th Elements and thinking they looked so cool, even though they would shoot right out sometimes.
I miss video parts. Just 3 minutes plus of the same skater throwing down their thesis on style. Most long vids nowadays are a montage of different people, which can be great but I liked when each skater had their own uninterrupted section. Cant believe you left out freestyle frames too!!!
Literally every other sport calls their "stunt" genre Freestyle. Indeed the catch-all title for all of the stunt genres of every sport is "Freesports". But here's us, the weird contrary kid who wears a bow tie to school, insisting on calling the stunt genre of blading "Aggressive" and the slalom genre "Freestyle" just to make absolutely sure normies have no clue what we do whenever we tell them "yeah so I'm an aggressive inline skater." 🤷🏾♂️😆
1/4 does count. I was talking specifically about 1/2 pipe that goes vertical. Plenty of people skate transition/park but 1/2 pipe on it own is not as popular as it used to be
@@TomMoyse I think you've just accidentally created a new old wave, my gawds are gonna look like they were made by fisher price. You'll see em everywhere now, just wait
You make some interesting points, Tom .. as far as vert goes, it's alive and well, just underground at the moment. We have 4 vert ramps in South Florida alone. Plus, when Chris Edwards is your roommate, I can tell you that good things are about to happen in our sport again.. stay tuned, my friend!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4WRE4ni0m2g.html
