Well, at the track I go to, it’s mostly just a bunch of severely overweight people walking, so I feel like I’m always in the top 95% even if I can only manage to jog like 0.5 miles. That’s one strategy to use if you’re self conscious about your pace. Then again, I think most runners/joggers are not judgmental towards others making an effort. For example, I am happy that the obese guy I lapped four times over one mile is out there walking because it means that he is making a very good effort to be healthier and improve. That’s what matter most; improvement relative to yourself, not relative to other people.

Hell yeah, love this tip. I used to do cross country and long distance track in middle/high school and that's exactly what you would do at the end of a race - finish strong. Now in my 20s, I'll really push myself to sprint at the end of my run to give myself that high of finishing a race, even if I'm just running alone on a treadmill. That feeling of accomplishment puts a huge smile on my face!

The 3 things that enabled me to massively improve my running capability were the following: 1) SLOW DOWN!!! I was running way too fast, which was exhausting me very early. I've found that they best way to go is to start slower, and naturally increase pace as you go along if you wish. I know that sounds strange but it seems to be the case for me 2) Get a better technique. This is very important too. With the correct technique (as shown in this video) you seem to just go faster with far less effort. Its amazing! 3) Eat healthier Sounds cliche but Ive stopped eating sweat treats (biscuits, cakes... I still have honey and a bit of sugar though) and drinking caffeine. (I highly doubt the caffeine has had any effect on my running but the cutting down on sugar certainly has because I no longer get acid reflux while running. I have still got a bit of a problem with rib and shoulder pain that I haven't found a solution to yet but running with a good posture has definitely prolonged the pain until near the end of my run. This may not work for you but I just thought it may be a useful read. Thanks for reading!

@steviewonder6821
@steviewonder6821 5 лет назад
Black182heart, yes & no. Like you said more incompetent beginners however trail running is far better on the joints than what road running is, often trails are uneven in other areas. If you suffer joint pain and want to run then trail running offers you a platform to do so within some extent, or atleast far more friendly than road
@steviewonder6821
@steviewonder6821 5 лет назад
Black182heart well you don’t run a great deal, 2k. 10 minutes at most... ask pro runners, the best in the world... all train on trails. Not hard to use your eyes to avoid potential hazards

Remember: we are always our worst critics. People couldn't care less about how you run/how sweaty you look. Using shyness as a reason to not go out for a run is merely an excuse to stay lazy. And if you happen to notice someone looking at you weird - and you don't know them - just stick up your middle finger and smile! At least one of you is moving their legs.

As someone in the Army, I frequently run. When I first went to basic it was very tough. I was running a 22 1/2 minute two mile. However, due to basic training and literally being forced to run for 10 weeks straight, I was able to run 2 miles in 17 minutes. A year and a half later, I still struggle with running but I realized that's part of it. It's not easy especially seeing improvement. It takes time, dedication, and motivation. You have to really stick to it. Now I can run 2 miles in 15 minutes. There will be heavy breathing. You aren't resting when you're actively running. The trick is to control your breathing. I typically breathe with my steps. 3 steps breathing in, 2 steps breathing out. Also, the way your foot hits the ground is important. Do not strike your heel on the ground first. Should be pretty flat footed, almost toes first. This will help maintain your forward momentum. Do not run every single day. You will hurt yourself. Every other day works just fine. It's tough and first I thought I would never see improvement. Here I am proving myself wrong and you can too. Just don't quit. Period.

The thing I knew BEFORE I started regular runs was :start with WALKING. pick a distance that challenges YOU , then once it no longer challenges you , start running from the half point , and so on. Muscle and respiratory condition are the keys. So build them gradually and you will be fine.

It's a completely different thing when you live in a subdivision, are a girl and have social anxiety. I've tried not to, but I always get anxious when I see people in the road ahead of me, or even thinking about people seeing me, especially if they're male. It sucks, and it's hard, so I instead go walking with my brother. One day I'll just wake up at unholy hours to run, that way I won't have to struggle with people. Anyway, thanks for your advice! I'm planning to try running soon, so I hope it all turns out okay.
@CatyCulp
@CatyCulp 3 года назад
I know it's a lot easier said than done, but the thing that helps me the most is knowing that literally *nobody* cares about you. I live in a subdivision as well, and I'm surrounded by people who could watch me constantly. I used to be so ashamed of running, I used to think that everyone who could see me was making fun of me... but then I realized that when I see a fellow runner, I'm never thinking about them. I never make fun of them. When I pass them, I honestly forget about them within about 30 seconds. The same is true for you, too! When you run, you're anonymous, and nobody cares about you. I hope this helps, because you can do it! ❤️❤️❤️

hi, it's been almost a year since you commented this and idk if you started running or gave up on the idea but wanted to encourage you anyway. I live in a big, metropolitan city. but my neighborhood is such an underground, so most people dont even run. let alone, most women also dont run. and to even add furthermore, women who're like me (who wear a hijab for religional purposes) also dont run. and everytime when I go out for a run, everyone looks at me with a shocked expression on their faces. I even had two men making fun of me while they were passing by with their motorcycles (what a jerk), SO MY POINT IS: DO NOT GIVE A SINGLE FUCK ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT YOU. they always say shit, they always criticize you and us but don't even put up the effort & time that you're putting. just focus on yourself, ignore them. whenever i feel like people are watching me, i just look at the sky, or the sea if i'm running by the beach, or the trees. distract yourself, do not even look at their stupid faces.

When I first started out running regularly I'd just wear the first socks that came to hand, and the blisters sucked! Good socks felt like a luxury purchase at the time, but made ALL the difference.

Trust me on this: nobody cares. Truly. When you see runners on the road where you are, how much time do you dedicate to making fun of them in your head? Probably not at all (unless you're a pretty garbage person, at which case I would encourage you to reevaluate some personal stuff). That's how it is when people see you run too! Truly, nobody cares. In fact, people might be inspired seeing you out there. When I always see a runner when I'm driving somewhere, I just think "man, they're awesome, I wish I could be out there right now too!"

Same here. I just moved to a house with a big park in front and thought about jogging for the first time in my life. It helped to stake it out and watch a few other people doing it first. I've just started doing a few laps around it, as early as I can in the morning when there aren't too many people. My partner came with me, so that helped. We alternated between walking and running as I've realised it's much harder than I thought! I think in these situations, most people are just doing their own thing and it's only in our head that we think that people are watching - truth is, and this sounds harsh but it's helpful: we just aren't that interesting! ;-) As for the minority of people who might take an interest and feel the need to be mean - it's their problem and no decent person would ever want to give you a hard time for doing something to help yourself. It would speak volumes more about the naysayer than it would about you. Go for it!

I’m personally not a really early morning person or evening person, my best runs are mid morning 3. Get lost in your thoughts! Sometimes when I’m thinking about other things I forget I’m even running and a mile can go by before I think about running again 4. My tips are as follows: 1) Never ever wait for the trainer or running mate. Just put on the shoes and run. 2) Ensure you drink lots of water after running. You have just lost water through sweating. 3) Do not over-plan your route too much it ruins the adventure and excitement of running. 4) Do not be bothered by what people think especially runners who are beginners and have a large body. Congratulate yourself because it shows you care about your life. 5) Give the body a day or two to recover. 6) Within a few days of running, you will immediately feel younger and better as the body restores your biological age. My waist pains, IBS, shoulder pains left immediately when I started running. 7) Running extra miles will boost your esteem and confidence and this can be applied to other areas of your life. 8) People like to say they are "too busy" to run. What if you made all that money and died of high blood pressure?

YES!! I used to be a cross country truck driver making $60,000 a year! But then I got sick. Lack of exercise and extremely bad eating habits come with the job. Started gaining weight like crazy. My skin was looking dull. Vision problems. Bloating. Skin rashes from leaky gut toxins. There a came a point where I couldn't eat anything sweet because a couple minutes after, my blood sugar spiked and then tanked. I started trembling and felt like I was going to have a panic attack. Probably not a good thing considering i'm driving an 80,000lbs vehicle. So I quit my job and started working to reverse everything. 2 in a half months after quitting, I lost 13lbs, I got rid of the rashes, I no longer get sugar spike/drops, vision is excellent .. of course I did a lot more than just running to reverse this. The point is all the money in the world isn't worth screwing your health over. Luckily tho, I made a little savings to I can go a couple months jobless :)

Bina R - Sure. It wasn’t easy. First thing I did was a water fast for 3 days. Then, I got on a candida diet for a month and a half. It’s an extremely strict diet you can find the details on RU-vid. All I ate was tuna, salmon, chicken, and quinoa rice. And for supplements I took: Vitamin D3, vitamin K2, L-Glutamine, digestive enzymes, pro and prebiotics, oregano oil, Apple cider vinegar, bone broth, liquid chlorophyll , only drank distilled water and I also sweated a lot. Had to sweat out the toxins. Since I did this in the middle of winter, I couldn’t go out and run. So I grabbed a soccer ball and juggled it in my garage. You’d be surprised how good of a cardio work out that is. That’s pretty much everything I did.

For beginners. -Get a good quality sleep -You must learn proper warm-up and stretches before and after your run for your body to avoid injuries and unnecessary pain... - before running i only drink half cup of coffee, it boost my energy and make me feel alive i guess. -before u run or jog make sure to start walking with maybe 10m walking or whenever u feel ir ready -dont lean ur body forward, keep it straight. -on ur first minute, try to breath only thru ur nose. -if ever ur exhausted dont open ur mouth too much while breathing.. -breath deep, and exhale slowly. -dont think that u are tired. Dont look down, always forward and keep motivating urself while running. -good music helps too. ...sorri im not quite confident on my english. @@its.ricobico Hi, that is called shin splints and is common in runners. Don't push yourself and ice it if it hurts. Consider running on softer surfaces. To avoid it, flex and point your feet as a stretch and there are also a few other stretches you can do. Here is my favorite: Sit on something and place your feet flat on the floor. Then lift your toes, keeping your heel on the floor. "Tap" the floor three times, and then hold your toes off the floor for a few seconds -still keeping your heel on the floor-. Repeat a few times. The best part is you can do it on a car ride, and practically anywhere. Hope this helped!

Something I wish I knew when I first started running was to stretch! Stretch before and after the runs, I'm so glad I stretch and hydrate now!
@CatyCulp
@CatyCulp 7 лет назад
You know what's interesting about that? I used to stretch religiously before my runs, but I have ridiculously weak ankles (always have), and I noticed that when I stretched beforehand, I'd be more prone to rolling them during my runs. So now I just warm up with a brisk walk before I actually start running, which I love! Definitely like stretching afterwards though, for sure.

Yes, before and after workout. If I don't stretch properly I'll get a small strain or pain in the knees, ankles or in some muscles of the leg during the running session. I guess it depends on each of us, but I've never heard that stretching before could cause an injury.

Then, a few months ago, even though I have asthma I decided to start running. It was very hard in the begining, because I havent ever exercised in my life, and due to asthma, but now, a few months later, I can run about 9km in 40minutes, and I think it is a great improvement in just 2-3 months, and I am excited to see what I can do next and how I can be even better. Quit smoking cold Turkey 10 days ago and started jogging every morning for 4 days in a row now. Never felt better! 😊 Edit: I am now 2 months clean! I workout 5x a week and jog each and every day. I'm close to running my first 5k (3.5km without rest). Thank you everyone whose liked and commented. You guys really motivate me. 😁 Edit 2: it's July 31/19 and I'm still tobacco/nicotine free (for those wondering how I am doing). And don't worry, I'm never touching a cigarette again. :) It was a hell of a journey (and still is!) I hit my first 5k about a month ago, which was my goal. I'm now more heavily focused on resistance training but I'll still do cardio once a week. To those who are trying to quit smoking as well, you can definitely achieve it! For me, my goal was to run 5k without rest and I know for a fact if I smoked it would have hindered my progress to achieve my goal. So with that mindset it allowed me to stay focused and consistent with my workout. Everytime I got tired it was a reminder of what I did to my lungs and I'd use that exhaustion to push myself each day. And wow I've never had so many likes and comments on a RU-vid video before. Thank you everyone! I hope I have inspired you on your fitness journey. 💪☺️

So, when I started running, i got a garmin and logged everything. I ran 3-4x a week. I did all my runs at an easy conversation pace. After about a year I was still struggling...every run was hard. I went back and looked over my logs to see what i was doing wrong. This is what I found 1) My average pace was way faster than when I started and my average heart rate was way lower. The progress was so subtle that my body was constantly adjusting for that "easy" conversation pace as I naturally became healthier and faster without actually trying to get faster. My advise to those struggling, STICK WITH IT!
