My tip for visiting Kyoto would be to do Fushimi Inari Taisha *at night*. It's open 24 hours, and the pathway is illuminated, and there is zero crowds. It's absolutely spectacular after dark. A must-do.
That's an excellent tip! I am getting to like Fushimi Inari at night more and more lately. The feeling is very different than it in daytime. Thanks for sharing! :D
Thank you very much for this list. I just returned home from Kyoto and visited Daikakuji and Tofukuji. They were incredible and ended up being the highlights of our time in Kyoto. I had friends join us in Kyoto from Hiroshima and many times they commented "how did you find these places?!?". I was sure to tell them to check out your youtube channel. :)
Daikakuji had an extra bonus to it as well since during the month of October (maybe even November) the Heart Sutra is on display. This document was written out by Emperor Saga about 1200 years ago as his attempt to stop an epidemic sweeping across his lands (which it did - coincidentally). The document is usually sealed in a vault, however, every 60 years it is brought out for a brief time for display. We were told just how rare of an opportunity it was for us too. Important to note: some of the garden area took damage during the Typhoon back in September. We weren't able to access the bamboo area behind the temple. Thanks again! I also went to the mini archery range in Takayama too because of your videos - very fun.
Another fantastic video Yusuke-san. Amazing quality video as always. You've given me a bunch of extra ideas for our upcoming visit in late December. We've been to Kyoto 4 times and the only place we've visited on this list is the Imperial Palace so I really appreciate the tips. I'm really hoping we get some snow while we're there.
I loved it, but most of all I loved the wonderful. warm and elegant Japanese people. So helpful, kind and friendly. I also didn't see one piece of trash anywhere during my holiday.
Great video! Thanks for uploading. I already have accommodations for Kyoto but I would love to try out your recommendation. I saw an interesting coffee making (I think) apparatus.
We visited Daikakuji Temple yesterday based on your recommendation. It is an amazing place. We had the entire temple literally all to ourselves, and it started to snow just as we entered the temple grounds. Unforgettable.
Hi Spun-san! Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit! Looking forward to hearing your story :) The weather is cold for the next few days, so take care and stay warm!
