I'd like to hear a trauma informed therapist's take on people repeating stories. I think telling a trauma survivor that they're just "spreading the drama" would cause serious damage to them. And regarding breakups... what if that person was in an abusive relationship? They might not have even known it was abusive and they relive it over and over because it was confusing and crazy making. We need compassion and empathy in this world.

That's so true; it's a horrible puzzle and you have to find out how you got there. It's like an ordinary person being asked to go to someone's home for lunch, then staying, then realising that they've closed and locked the door and you don't get out for years; when you are getting sane again and seeing things as they are you wonder how you got there. I have nightmares after talking to someone but I can't avoid life and all of TV in case of violence, or books or friends in case they accidentally raise their voices for any reason. I think that my friend has the best way; just talk about it if anyone asks, like where did you go on holiday or what did you buy you know, ordinary things. It wasn't you, it's just something that happened so treat it as everything else that has happened; you went to the shops, you bought a jumper and once you met someone who abused you in some way.

I believe that there is value in your words. I love Mel and I have grown as a person in the year I have listening to her. This is a short. I hope the full episode expands on this topic. This list could apply to anyone under certain circumstances. I read another comment that mentioned ADHD. The things in this could easily apply to ADHD, to anxiety, to anyone living in a stressful situation, certainly to anyone who has been through a trauma. I’ve encountered many people in my life that my mom called pot stirrers. Those people are secretive and masters at blending in so the chaos they create doesn’t appear to come from them. This list wouldn’t apply to them.

@@destrygraves good point. I guess that's the danger of posting RU-vid shorts. If people don't normally watch the content creator they may not know their character and values and things could be taken the wrong way. Content creators would be wise to consider this when they create this type of content. Thank you for replying as there is certainly value in what you've said as well.

@@rosemaryclarke2348 thank you for sharing that. I am witnessing you with compassion. I'm sorry you went through that. You didn't deserve to be treated that way. Lundy Bancroft's book, "Why Does He Do That?" Is so validating if you haven't read it yet. I think the number of people with ptsd is higher than we realize especially because people associate it with war etc. But experiencing any form of abuse on a daily basis can certainly cause a form of it. You don't have to share personal info here but I hope you've been able to work with a trauma informed therapist yourself.

Processing things repeatedly with a competent therapist seems different than what this conversation contemplates. Trauma bonding is real and often does not facilitate healing. Offering your vulnerability to people who don't have the inclination or capacity to truly help does not seem wise.

Exactly, I used to feel the need to ‘vent’, until I realized it was really just gossip, and didn’t make me feel better; it only made me feel worse. Trying to do better now.

Yea, I agree this on the harsh.. There are those who seek it & there are those who have been running to find peace. There are those who appear calm but they’re projecting for others to take it on. ❤❤❤

I’ve heard that sharing something (ie a secret) 5 times will set you free. For years I kept things inside and didn’t talk about them…holding it in created stress(!) as well as anxiety and chronic pain… this did not serve me. I don’t think it’s about the number of times you do or don’t talk about whatever is bothering you.. it’s about your intention around it… Are you trying to “gather the troops “and build up sympathy for yourself, and stay stuck in the problem, or are you honestly needing to process it, ask for help, and release it? To put a number like 2 times max is unrealistic and arbitrary.

I buy that maybe the first and second things would indicate a drama addiction, but the others could be part of a person suffering with childhood emotional neglect not understanding their emotions, possibly adhd, and maybe even other psychologic turmoils like emotional dysregulation. His last 2 questions are still very valid for all of those first 5 questions.

It isn't 'a story' it is someone's life! I think that you should tell it whenever you are asked or whenever you feel that you need to; if Dr Scott has been through any traumatic experience I would be surprised. People have enough trouble talking of trauma without being told that they are 'addicted to drama' wake up! This WAS DRAMATIC! You're shut down, not allowed to be you and many times far worse, there are usually beatings or rapes or at least threats! Let's talk for once in our lives about these ' dramatic' things too as we have to know, through others, that they are not normal!

I'm sorry but if you talk about something a few times to get over a breakup to your closest one, it might be because they want perspective on their own shit as well as o the other one. That's how you heal. That's not drama. Oh god too much info gets ridiculous after a while.

And what about to have so many activities and the time is never enough to breathe:)
@teodorakovacicnovakovic4899
@teodorakovacicnovakovic4899 11 месяцев назад
Some people have many activities because there are many things they want to learn/practice/experience, some people have (too) many activities to escape from being at home with their families, some people by having "not time to even breath" consciously or subconsciously try to avoid painful feelings not giving them time and space to show up, some of us just have periods when Life gets on our way and suddenly we have so many "activities" because we have to take care of member of our family or close friend who ended in hospital while already being 24/7 taking care of our baby or small child - my bestfriend was in this situation...so in my humble opinion, there are countless reasons why person could have (too) many activities. Turning 54 in January, it is what I can say based on my own and my loved one experiences, and last but not least based on what I've learned on my psychology classes at College and University, various seminars and during psychotherapy. All the best from Croatia 🙏😇🫶

Not buying what he's selling! #1 & #2 are what drama queens do, gossiping and stirring the pot... #3 waiting for deadlines could mean they're lazy or not organized.... #4 using all of those words could mean a number of things. I use those words sometimes and I'm am the complete opposite of drama, don't gossip, and don't crave attention.... #5 sometimes when someone tells the same thing over and over, it could be due to a memory issue. Sorry Mel, he has much to learn.

@darlenenorton793
@darlenenorton793 11 месяцев назад
I AGREE! How about CPTSD? Complex Post Tramatic Stess Disorder? Which I BELIEVE HALF of the population suffers from! Have you seen that Al a non commercial on TV where they say one out of TWO families suffers from "Alcoholism" or the negative effects from it? What do you THINK happened in those "family dynamics?" ABUSE of ALL kinds, spiritual, emotional, physical, financial, sexual NOT getting into the horrible details AND looong term consequences of NEGLECT and the cumulative affects OF those ABUSES! Sometimes MORE than you can imagine! ARE GENERATIONAL from the trauma, causing even Mental Illness in innocent family victims! I disagree with this man. Watch Dr. Gabor Mate and Dr. Sam Vakin if you really want to get educated on trauma, narcissism and addictions that ALL seem to be inter connected and Go hand in hand with what's going on in our world! I say: "SHOUT it out" and get rid of those toxic memories and tapes! Replace them with "Happy memories" and tapes! Talk about it till you get it ALL out BEFORE it consumes you and makes you sick with ALL kinds of spiritual, emotional, mental and physical ailments such as "heart disease, and cancer" the number one killers right now! NOT including ALL these other ailments and auto immune diseases that never seem to end! These people are making money TELLING you what you should be feeling AND doing! Ewww...of course a LOT of people DON'T want to listen BECAUSE they are narcissistic themselves, and want to control the narrative of YOUR life! Developing a personal relationship with God as you understand him is a VERY important key to healing. EVERYTHING starts with the spiritual, that affects the emotional, that affects the mental, that affects the physical! N e way, Happy Healing and Health to ALL that choose the journey towards a BETTER Blessed Life! AMEN! 💯🙏👆💖🔥💪💥💫🌴🌈🌅🕊️💞

Ever hear the phrase (don't you ever get tired of your own Complaints or Hearing Others Complaints or Gossip?) That is how you sound to others & keeping yourself stuck in the victim mode & in the past. You need to live in the Present, or you will never have a Future.
