I appreciate you include the idea of trauma making EPs very different. Things like perfectionism, performance anxiety, social anxiety etc can have a huge impact on how someone decides to act. It can get in the way of the natural flow state of a person. I would also like to state as an ENFP: if the group is energized; I am energized. It creates a similar bounce to NE ideas. Energy bouncing provides a whole new fume to work off of. But entertaining people who are bored or low energy is when energy actually gets drained for me.

I wonder if traumatized EPs will look more IJ

@@SJ-um8zc I wonder that as well actually! I imagine that being inflicted with emotional trauma of any kind would divert you from a natural state of mind. You'll seem a lot less typical and more reserved no matter the type. Or reckless. I guess it really depends!

@@rhyrhy9084 I wonder how it works, because it would mean that the original functions (natural self) will not be able to do whatever they needed to do (in their environment) and resorts to the lower functions to survive.

I"m an ENFP with CPTSD, my EP isn't based on human interaction as much as environmental interaction. The youtube channel Crime Pays Botany Doesn't, the guy is an obvious EP, just uses botany, geology, illustration, etc. lots of Ne autodidact/polymath skills. I think that constantly teaching yourself new things is an obvious sign of an ENP.

@@SJ-um8zc people often think I'm INFP or INTP, I kind of get INFP because of same functions, but no way I could use Fi as a dominate, just amazes me that people can do that, for us its more like a reservoir to understand other people's feelings and extrovert that via empathy, etc. rather than to be in our feelings. An ENFP stuck in their Fi is messy.

1:18 "...because throughout life you've been too much for other people" WOW. I hesitate to use the word 'trauma' for myself because that's a very heavy word that I want to respect, but hearing that was almost like a bucket of ice water to the face. XD I very much hold back in public/group social settings because I have that "bull in a china shop" feeling that I'm going to bulldoze, trample, confuse, and/or upset people by being "too much". It's like that thing where a vampire can't come in your house unless invited inside - it's one of the most precious and freeing gifts I can get when someone makes it clear that I can be all of me with them.

This has been a great series! Thank you! I am wondering if you could give some examples of "external stimuli." Does this range anywhere from playing video games/watching tv/reading books to loud music at a party/ socializing with multiple people/playing a physical sport? I, for example, love spending my evenings at home playing videos games for hours or binging a TV show (or watching RU-vid videos about MBTI/Enneagram stuff), and if I don't go out and see people for days on end, I'm totally satisfied with consuming my own personal hobbies. However, in my mind I still feel like that is external stimulus, as opposed to what some might say an introvert's sole focus is inward. I definitely daydream and my mind can wander to completely random topics or I will imagine conversations in my head that haven't happened yet, or recreate past ones. This usually happens though when I'm not consumed by a video game or something. Like, while I'm out on a walk I'm rarely paying attention to what's actually around me, but rather my internal thoughts. Or, if will think about what conversations I had that day with people and delve deeper into them. I would just really love some clarification on this. I've heard that ESXPs will be more inclined to playing sports, socializing/dancing at a bar, travelling the world just to experience it, etc. I think I'm an INFP, but how does external stimulus such as tv shows or video games play a role for me? Or if I spend the majority of my time consuming that stuff does that mean I'm not an intuitive and actually a sensor?

Prepare, think, plan hahahahahah is that what the introverts are doing? Kidding, my Mom is an ISFJ and I feel like I have always found some sort of an I to orbit around and I married an INFJ :). Oh my Si is ridiculous and makes schedules, lists and routines but, I do think that since I have lived through enough life by now, I have figured out that I need schedules and routines to stay alive haha but I also now know what it’s like when I’m locking down into it and trying to control life that way. Loooooved this series!

This whole series was so great! Thanks a lot for all the clarity you all have given. Will there be any future videos distinguishing EP vs IP and same with the J types? At the end you all mentioned EPs can struggle being in tune with themselves but what if its an ENFP enneagram 4 for example? I relate to both EP and IP traits for that reason and struggle differentiating /:

Yes, ExFPs can be in touch with their emotions, especially if they are Enneagram 4s! Of course. 🙂 We will also be distinguishing IP vs EP and all the other combinations as well.

7:50 Yep I agree, I always feel like my two middle functions are constantly fighting for the spotlight. In my case it is Ti Fe, I am an ENTP. Ti wants to shine, but that would disrupt the emotional climate. I want to be liked by everyone and keep peace, but I cannot ignore my Ti. With time, I have found a way to use and show Ti, without disrupting the tribe, so I can make both functions happy. Now, where what she says happens a lot, is to people close to me. I can get overly people pleasing, and overly empathetic. I want nothing but make the other person happy. However, it makes me miserable. I can't ignore Ti, and there are two things that might happen. With time I might start showing less Fe and more Ti, which the person might not like. But the other one, because very few people are fond of Ti, I will keep it to myself, until I can't keep it for longer. Until I can no longer Fe to that person. I would care so much about the other person, until I no longer can. Because while I want to be good with Fe, I can't use it as much. I still have to use Ne and TI, more than Fe, otherwise I feel empty. For my ESFP brother, what I have seen, is something similar happens, where he would do a lot of things for the other person. He would overcommit to people near him. He recently said he would paint our parent's house... but now that he started doing it, he is struggling a lot. Often times, out of nowhere he volunteers to doing things for others, but then he realizes he can't be in Te mode all the time and begins to burn out as well. But it is funny to see it from the outside looking in. He often prioritizes himself and what he wants... but suddenly from time to time he is like Let me help you with all these. And sometimes it is things you do not even need help with. But then he overcommits, and suddenly goes back to only looking for what he values, and then he goes back to helping. It is a constant cycle. Which I fall into as well, but for me is more about the emotions. I am like, I want to take care of everyone, then i burn out and fall into only caring about my own logic and thinking about myself. And suddenly I want to do it again, and then go back into my usual self. The only way I can do it without burning out, is using Fe sparingly. But sometimes I get this urges or needs to be loved and I think I can only achieve it by showing love and support.

@MisTypology Oh yeah, that is also the case. Maybe because I also grew up, in a Christian community, that was sort of a cult. Because we were often discouraged in seeing people outside of the group, if it wasn't to evangelize. So for most of my life, everyone I knew was from that group. I am often very reluctant to show my Ti in the real world. Because my constant questioning of everything was often not appreciated in that group. That did not stop me from completely censoring it. But it did make me think, no one likes my Ti, unless I use it to agree with someone. So I might not be a normal ENTP. But now that i left that group, showing my Ti to people, can be a mixed bag. A lot of people do get offended, if you dare question them or just disagree in any way. But other times, people do appreciate it, and that is the best, when you can talk openly. But I still get surprised, when I show unfiltered Ti and there are no negative consequences. I still do show my Ti, but I have learnt to use Fe to soften the blow. But unfiltered Ti, is what I often avoid. One thing is, I know I have high Ti, because even when everyone around me forced me to think a certain way. Since I was a little kid, I wouldn't even allow it. Even growing up in a cult like community, critical thinking always came natural, even when discouraged. But what is funny, due to Fi blind, even with all of that, I never held negative emotions to any of that, or positive for that matter. I never felt like going against the group, nor took pride on being an individual thinker, I simply was. It is funny, when one can see type, even when the environment doesn't favor it. Favoring the idea that it might be nature over nurture. But also, how nurture might have indeed affected how reluctant I might be to show my Ti, specially to new people who I do not know how they would react.

Hmm, I feel like the tendency to people-please could also be heavily influenced by trauma, though... Also, why do people tend to overly identify with their tertiary function? I've never heard of this before, and can't say I relate to it, as an INFP (or maybe an ENFP?) I relate very, very strongly to both Fi and Ne, and not very much at all to Si and Te. In fact, I often say that my weak Si and Te are the "price" I pay for having really strong Fi and Ne.
