Many people receive an ENTP result from online tests, but not all of these people have the corresponding cognitive functions. Conversely, many actual ENTPs tend to mistype as INFJs and ENFPs.
This video will help you tell the difference between those are who ENTPs, and those who are not.

About me:
Hi, I'm Harry, and I'm intensely passionate about personality typing and self-development - so much so that I have created my own Jung-inspired system, taking a more high-resolution look at the factors making up personality.
Through Cognitive Personality Theory I examine the underlying mechanisms behind cognition, and the means through which a single type can have limitless individual variation - I believe type itself is just a set of cognitive predispositions that can according to the needs of the situation be overcome.
I don't believe any type is limited in what they can achieve, but have noticed sensationalist attitudes and internet trends propagating a culture in which type-development is actively discouraged in favour of conforming to simplistic archetypes. Through CPT I hope to dispel various myths and oversimplifications of what constitutes personality type, and along the way encourage a healthier attitude towards type that allows a person to become not who they are told they are, but rather who they want to be.

More or less, there is a social anxiety, but when you understand the framework of how the place and people around you work that disappears. If I want a thing from a person in a big group I will just go and ask for it without problem. When I need to do the same thing, but in regards to getting to know someone in a group my first question is what are the interests that that person has and how would they react if I would ask questions about those interests. Basically you are a clockmaker put in front of different clocks, if you know the clock already it's super easy, if you know the model it's easy, if you look at a photo of a clock and you need to repair it in the next hour, you ask for the "manual".

@@josiesmith1295 Bot quite, for specific situations you act either extroverted or introverted in theory an ambient should be happy with the situations he is in if the interaction is positive, but for us that's not the case, you may want people when you are alone, or you want to be alone when you are around people. It's really weird.

@Hannah, this is where cross checking can help (Socionics core model A + quadra values + intertype relationships + for instance to tell apart INTP and ENTP, understanding if your Ti is a goal or and end, if it is cautious and all encompassing or if it works rather in a 80-20 fashion to fuel Ne main worldview... that's the rational vs. irrational dichotomy, one of the very few extra Socionics dichotomies that kinda works) give many angles...

"Many ENTP's feel truly themselves when they're alone". This is so true. And " reacting to the external world", that is what I was trying to explain people when they read on superficial MBTI websites that ENTP's love to be with people. Really liked the identity part to. Interesting what you said about the hobbies. I have so many interests and hobbies running side by side, or following each other up. The only problem I have with that sometimes is that I'm jealous of the ISTP types who really master something, I guess. This was by far the best ENTP video I've seen so far. Keep up the good work!

I never even tjought that way that they all should be with one specific direction or they should somehow work together. Or like goal. Ofc uts fun to play with different interests and combine them. If you are surprised by somebody’s reaction to what you did, or are not thinking of how somebody will react to your actions, 3. If you are fine with being a bystander of a social group, just observing, 4. If you don’t need social reassurance that you are a desirable person 5. So true! I’m still not sure if I’m estp or entp but one thing is certain. When I argue I tend to ask questions that would prove the fact that someone’s theory is wrong and very poorly made. Someone that I know is a feeler for sure says that I’m attacking her by doing it. Like what? I respect that you want to believe in something that you have no proof of but I can’t just turn a blind eye on that nonsense. Like imagine hearing something like that: - I know that around 80% of the bible might be fake but I believe in god. - Alright, so do you believe in the god from the bible? -Yes - But you know that most of it might be untrue? You just said that. - Yes, but I believe in the true things written in the bible. - Then how do you know that the „true” things that you speak of are true unlike the untrue ones? What if all of it is untrue? -I believe it. You should too or else you are going to hell! - But I don’t believe in it. I can’t just start to believe in something out of fear. - Yes, you can. - How? - Just start to believe. 🫣

Thank you for explaining that ENTPs can also be caring and understanding. I mistyped as ENFP due to many tests being based on the stereotype of "you give a damn about people? you are a feeler." Even my friends typed me as ENFP because they all thought ENTPs are jerks. People on Reddit on the other hand often typed me as xNTP but I took that with a grain of salt since they don't know me irl. After reading about cognitive functions and learning more about MBTI, I wasn't sure if I actually was ENFP, since I related more to the functions of ENTP. After watching your video, I'm 100% sure I'm ENTP, you actually spot-on described me, it's almost scary how accurate this is.

I don't think words like "dull" have ever been used to describe ENFPs or ENTPs.

How to deal with the “too many hobbies and interests” issue. (1.) Get your own space... Something I didn’t do until I was a divorced empty-nester. The freedom to pursue interests and leave half-completed projects lying around is what I had been missing all my life. I wish I had bought a trailer or built an art studio to call my own way back when. For the first time, I’m actually completing projects. (2.) Consciously try to “circle back” to a limited number of over-arching interests. For example: Learning Photoshop ==> learning photo transfer techniques ==> learning encaustic art ==> hey, I can combine photography with encaustic ==> obsession with camera lenses ==> random class in wood working ==> hey, I could figure out how to make a floating frame... See? Even as you go off in many different directions, you can try to corral them back to relate to hobbies you have pursued previously. Same thing with music, I might have 15 instruments and play them all poorly, but as I “circle back” to each one I find myself improving at all of them AND gradually “weeding out” the ones that don’t sync with my “true self”. Uke, bass, flute, banjo, and violin are now OUT, but somehow they led me to the concertina, and surprisingly the concertina is becoming “my” instrument. I never would have found it if I had stuck with the very first instruments I tried. (3.) Get a storage space, and organize it really well, taking advantage has both the horizontal and vertical space. You can spend years accomplishing nothing if you live in clutter, as we tend to do. (4.) Become adept at selling stuff on eBay. Financial ruin often lurks at the ENTP’s doorstep. We tend to toss or give away (or store) the things that don’t interest us any more. Remember that other people are still interested in the same things you once were. Also, as you pursue an interest, you will naturally develop a taste for better and better “stuff” related to it. Keep the best, get rid of the middling. (5.) Don’t waste time trying to get other people to understand you. Only other ENTPs will understand, and - interestingly - I find that we DON’T tend to like each other. We feel both competitive with and hyper-critical of each other. Most of my best friends are various types of Js. They appreciate me but don’t “relate,” and that’s fine, as long as they respect my “space” (see point #1). (6.) As the smart fellow who made this video says, remember that the ultimate aim of “competence” is to be socially useful. Every once in a while, make the brave leap into actually doing rather than learning. Make things and actually try to sell them. Force yourself to perform a musical piece, or join a group to perform with. Donate your skills to a cause. Make a RU-vid video to demonstrate your original technique. You don’t want to end your life with a phD level of knowledge in a hundred subjects yet nothing “concrete” to show for it. (7.) ENTPs tend to be physically unhealthy. Use your temperment to your advantage. Make healthy living into a fun project. I grow a sprout salad for every day with my cool Easygreen sprouter. I got a smart bike trainer and have made a “project” of riding it in every country of the world (check out Kinomap). As we get older we can’t ignore the physical world anymore.

ENTP here. I really like your understanding of the type, sir. Most people I meet don't get the subtleties of what it feels like being an ENTP. I take it there's a bunch of jealousy involved, we can do most things and charm most anyone with relative ease. So I rarely meet people inclined to ... empathize with me in a sense. Maybe I present maybe as a social bulwark of success, I don't know, but there's not much room for failure in my interactions. "You display confidence, you better deliver now" is how I feel I'm being treated most of the time. And I try to not be influenced by it, but I really am. I also feel a bit of a victim of my own stereotype : yes I can say obnoxious things, push boundaries with people, but never in a threatening way. But then people take me as this monster show. How many times have I heard aquaintances say to one of their friends "You gotta meet this guy, he's an animal/freak/monster". Not in a negative way either, but just not in a humane way. At some point in my ENTP life I do hope someone will just allow me to be ... vulnerable, I guess ? I mean it has to go both ways obviously. The story of my life is getting into tense situations with really valuable friends because I'm harsher on them in social situations. So I could defend some random fucker who took an insult from my friend and end up loosing a friend for trying to include the random guy and not sticking with my friend's stupidity. Hearing you speak about our type made me feel understood, for real. Thank you.

I get that a lot too. I really enjoy discussions and discovering new things, especially when it comes to figuring people out. This is an investigative approach as well as a fun competitive approach at times. For some reason people think I'm mad or attacking them, when I'm just excited and stimulated. Most of the time when people are describing me they give others a disclaimer of me like I'm a dog without shots, and it makes me feel like a monster. In arguments what will usually happen is I will present a logical point that is probably against the grain, and whoever I'm talking to will dismiss that by explaining why that makes me a bad person, and if only I was as empathetic and compassionate as them I could maybe understand why I'm so wrong. Like Pinocchio. If I hope and wish hard enough, maybe I'll be a real girl, with feelings and everything. Which I find insulting. I just want to figure out what makes people tick, and I want other people to want to figure me out too. I've never gotten a response like "so why do you think that?" It's always "you shouldn't think that" I know it's unlikely there will be many people who get me, but I'd at least like for people to care enough to try, instead of assuming I have malicious intent.
@JoeLaFigue

@@emma_doucette I can relate to this a lot. I would guess it's even harsher for you since you are female. I recently met an ENTP female, whom for the first time I was sure was an ENTP, I sometimes doubted other females who presented themselves as such, I guess the male/female energy is different between types and I've got preconceived ideas about them, but well ... She had this very ENTP confidence I can't mistake, but then her words were surprising to me. She was very involved in social movements, feminism and what not and I could not relate less to her experience of life. A well assured "independant soon to be woman" type ... I was like, I'm a 27 years old manchild who can't take anything seriously without doubting my decisions as I know every involvement leads to a certain type of life whether I want it or not, and I don't feel enough sense of care for any struggle that I would have to make it my way of life... And you're a 21 year old girl who thinks she's figured it out ? That doesn't sound right to me, knowing you're ENTP. SO maybe that was a bit judgemental, but I became wary about people who know what they fight for. When it comes to being the monster, I feel like many people think there's only one way to get where you want to go, and they don't understand this desire to just explore, enjoy myself along the way. No one I meet and no money I'll earn will ever replace this feeling of satisfaction I get knowing that I did things my way. I recently quit my studies to work as a receptionist in a hotel, I needed money and emancipation. COuldn't be happier. Now everyone around me except my closest INTP and ENTJ friend thinks I'm some kind of stupid lazy ass dude who couldn't finish their studies for nothing, who pretended to be smart but reached their limit. It's just not the case, I had to have something at this point in my life, and I had to do what I'm doing now to feel better about myself, and surely go back to school in less than 2 years. Absolutely no one seemed to understand I was a 26 years old guy living with his parents with no car and no possessions of my own beside a guitar and a computer, and this image I had of myself was devouring me and preventing from everything, from studies to relationships, to just feeling fine in general without feeling outbursts of suicidal thoughts knowing I was no one, not even doing what I knew had to be done to feel better. I reached the conclusion I'd better not listen to anyone, I know how things make me feel, no one else understands, let them live their delusion of me being like them and pretending like "I'm soooo different". I act different because I am, not to make everyone else feel weird. Meaning yes I'm addicted to cola, smoking does help me relax, I don't care about my lungs everyone gets cancer ANYWAYS, I stilll outrun y'all fat bastards, I like to spend time trying to figure out a solutions, I like to overuse my own things just to have an excuse to take them apart and fix them later, I don't care about your kids, they make you uninteresting to me if you live through them, do better, and I have a crazy libido. Why should that be a problem ? I just am open about everything you hide. How does that make you feel ? Anger got me in the end. But by all means express yourselves.
@emma_doucette

@@JoeLaFigue I think no matter the personality type, feminist activists are going to be annoying and seem like self righteous judgemental people 😂 As for being a female, I would say sometimes people are harsher on me because of that like "act like a lady" kind of thing, but not always. I think it goes both ways. Like aggressive women are going to be judged because they're not feminine enough, and aggressive men are going to be judged because they have "toxic masculinity". Goals in life are good, so is taking advice from other people. But feeling suffocated from other's expectations of you is not healthy, and pursuing what you want and how you want is of course preferable. Your life your way. I do have people I can talk to and lean on, it's just hard because I'm so direct which frightens them a bit 😂 I do need people though. Like I could definitely shut everyone out and live by myself forever like my instincts tell me every once in a while, but I know that would make me miserable too. My best solution for myself is to not apologize for who I am, and keep searching for "my people".

The five signs you are not an ENTP: 1. You interact with your internal world more than with the external world. 2. You go with the flow of a social experience instead of trying to anticipate it. 3. You gravitate more towards being a social bystander and observing others. 4. You need less social affirmation than other people. 5. You can hold onto the core of who you are and understand your subjective identity. And the bonus sign mentioned at the end of this video: 6. has anyone noticed an enhanced productivity/outcome a) when doing more things in parallel, or b) when practising less for something? as paradoxical as it might sound, my grades in college were consistently better when attending 9 classes than when attending the average 6, and also at work I tend to be much more engaged when heavily multitasking, because when I get bored of seeing something I still have something else to attend that still is productive, giving my Ti enough leverage such as "okay, I let you lose focus on this, as long as you redirect it on that else" (not that I didn't indulge in wikipedia binges, but that's another topic). similarly, I play bass guitar in a few bands, and I discovered that my playing in the gig tends to be much better if I just rehearse the tune enough to learn it, and then practise it very sparsely or rarely. So, if I have a gig with band A, best thing to do is to rehearse the tunes from bands B, C, D ... anything but A's repertoire (you'll end up rehearsing them at least a time or two before the gig with the full band anyway), so during the actual gig your brain doesn't just disconnect while playing, which obviously leads to mistakes.

Yes, I noticed this. For example, I was much more organized while I had classes than when I was on a school break. Now that I'm an adult, my life was much more organized when I worked full-time vs now that I'm unemployed, or even when I work part-time. If I have a lot of time, I get out of control and it's a constant struggle to do what I need to do.

My theory of how so much of MBTI gets confusing is this: no one considers the culture in which these different types operate. An ENTP in America is going to have a completely different experience as an ENTP than one in the UK. I have lived in America for my entire 61 years and I can tell you it is an INCREDIBLY hostile environment to ENTP’s (and INTP’s...probably others). Certain types simply don’t fit in to American society...full stop! That changes all the dynamics of type analysis. It has to.

Watching it now entirely (had no time yesterday) and this is making everything SO CLEAR. The reactive approach on concepts from external reality, the compartmentalization of lots of different interests, the ''using people as a sounding board to debate your ideas with yourself'', the need to predict emotions on others and anticipating them, thus suffering tremendous anxiety when social or interpersonal relationships are unpredictable and unstable (sense of loss of control on your environment).... and the fact that our ultimate goal is to gain a set of skills to enrich our social circle or society as itself, feeling our value as a person relies on that rather than on who we are (Fi)... Makes lots of sense. Wow, I just awakened. Thank you so much! P.S.: I think I mistyped as an INTJ because of the compartmentalization part. I tend to categorize and put everything into boxes, and behaviourally that is perceived as judging, thus the J. The I is explained by liking alone time and having solitary hobbies. MBTI tests are bullshit, functions are the real deal.

I'm really skeptical about lots of MBTI stuff because I often find it oversimplifies stuff. Your vids, on the other hand, are on a whole other level . I resonate so much with so many things here. Am I positively enhancing social atmospheres only to benefit myself, is something I often doubt about myself. I always feel confident in social situations, I always feel like I'm being genuine too, but on the flip side I feel that maybe I'm being a cameleon. Tbh there are too many things in this video that I'd wanna talk about and it's hard to put in words in a youtube comment, but it's like you're putting in words some of the things I've tried to understand about myself for a long time. It feels sort of good that someone "gets it". Anyway, keep up the great videos, truly impressive the way you came up with such elaborate insight and explanations for this stuff.

I am so, so thankful for the depth of understanding and knowledge you share about the ENTP. My son is ENTP and I wish everyone important in his life was mandated to watch them. People perceive that he is callous or lacking in empathy when he is in fact one of the most deeply feeling and empathetic people I know. Conversely, I am ENFP and I notice people’s worries about me are that I’m a people-pleaser, too open, and will get taken advantage of. But people who know me, or are more perceptive see the inner me has a much more detached stance, an inner fighter and little care if people “like” me (although I am deeply humanitarian and am driven by my belief in the inherent goodness of human beings). I was recently watching some less sophisticated videos about ENTPs and ENFPs and I kept re-checking to see if I was mistakenly watching the wrong video or mishearing what type they were referring to, because the descriptions of my ENFP type were describing my ENTP son, and the descriptions of him sounded more like me.

The clarity in your understanding and communication of this type (my type) is remarkable. I love the subtleties and the nuance that are carefully teased apart here. For example explaining that even the seeming introverted tinkering of the ENTP away from others is often in the service of an activity/skill/knowledge which they hope will enhance their ability to craft the kind of social relationships that they desire. What a refreshing reflection on what it means to be extroverted vs introverted. I also particularly loved the delineation of ENTPs as individuals who do not just anticipate social environments and emotions, but take responsibility for them. It is this deep investment in the experience of others that can actually drive an ENTP to isolation, because to be around others compels an enormous obligation on the part of the ENTP (however, one which brings them satisfaction, purpose, and at times even joy). So wonderfully dissected, I selfishly wish I could hear you give a whole course on my type, but that would be very self indulgent wouldn't it? I'll go learn about some of my friends' types instead.

I have recommended this video to my mom--I think she's an ENTP. She fits the debater stereotype, but although she loves intellectual discussions, I wouldn't consider that her main characteristic. I like how you described the Ne-Fe loop, because it makes so much sense in my understanding of her. How can a person be so intellectual and yet so warm and engaging at the same time? ENTP! If you see this comment, Mom, let me know what you think.

It's actually the relationship between tertiary Fe and inferior Si which creates our insecurity. With our lack of routine and inconsistency that we are aware of within certain types of systems, we actually feel as if this limits our ability to adequately feel valued in the society we live in, and this is contradictive to our desire to improve the lives of others. This conflict is what creates the internal struggle over our own value and self-worth.

Thank you for making this video! I always test slightly higher on N than S and slightly higher on T than F. The E and P are always clear. I certainly relate to the fun loving descriptions of ENFPs and I don’t actually enjoy arguing for “argument’s sake” but I stand my ground in pursuit of truth and I care when people have things confused or if they are being inconsistent. I really appreciate that you were able to see a little better to the heart of things! I CAN argue two sides of the coin but it’s only because I considered both sides thoroughly! I probably know which one is wrong ;)

Truthfully, I'm creeped out at how accurate this depicts my brain and here's where the overthinking comes in: Once I hear another fact about ENTPs that is incredibly true to what I feel and do, my brain starts overthinking if I just decided to relate to that thing to stay true to how I thought I was or if I truly related to that. I have to use memory to remember how I related to it in the first place but I can't remember bc a million thoughts have filled my head since then so I'm left with an identity crisis Agreeing with your last point (that I saw on a comment), I still have no idea what my identity is And I'm guessing that my identity is not knowing what my identity is because if you think about it- ok I'll stop overthinking now

What a deep understanding of the ENTPs, I'm in wow... It was on your channel where I firstly met the (accurate) observation that ENTP is in reality one of the most empathetic types and that we are extremely councious and responsible when it comes to how we are affecting those who we are interacting with, or how they are affected by others. It is also amazing to me the way you are operating with cognitive functions, knowing them seems to give a lot of insights when I hear your analysis. Thank you! Oh, yes...and the fact that finally someone made it clear that we are more systematic in our thinking than the ENTJs... The justice has been served!:)

ENFJ here I can attest to the fact that ENTPs are generally a lot more systematic in their thinking than ENTJs which is made clear by their predictive capabilities much like us ENFJs albeit for different reasons. I think the fun loving nature of the ENTP & agreeableness of the ENFJ often beguiles a different reality behind the 'facade'/what people generally attribute to us.

After watching this video I am both relieved and confused. Granted it is 11PM right now and I'm tired, but I have struggled with gaining a sense of who I am, feeling like a terrible person, and always thinking that I can't make sense of myself so something must be wrong. I looked into MBTI because everyone else had a solid sense of identity and grasp on the world while I felt stuck in a rut and not knowing anything about myself or why I am the way that I am. I have gotten multiple types on the tests, which ultimately just raised more questions. The more I learn about being an ENTP the more questions I have. Granted I'm young. I know I have a lot of growing to do. Anyway, I guess this is just a drawn out thank you for the help in figuring out why I am the way I am.

I did enjoy this. Sounds I am still ENTP. I’m hardly ever mistyped anyway, but I think your take on the type has been a little gift in this landscape that I’ve known about two decades, return to every few years at very different life stages. My partner is INFJ and I was surprised by this INFJ craze we are in (i mean just look at number and views of videos for supposedly the rarest type!) Not So much focus on other types and whenever ENTP comes up it seems to come in relation to INFJ relationship... Really all these types are supposed to be such a minuscule parts of the population that a lot of people are just not really these types, which is part of what you’re saying. But the other parts pointing to misunderstood aspects of the ENTP. I don’t think I mind being labeled one of those villain/witch types any more; I can carry that type of persona pretty well (if it makes others happy and if that’s what they need you know ;)) But when younger that can be hard. I still can be annoyed that some people think ENTPs are people who just argue for the sake of arguing and are not as rational as the rest of the NTs or bizarre things like that. This might be because I am a more Ti dominant than Fe heavy ENTP but it’s like man if you don’t get that we are very much logic driven in debate and thinking both, to the point we may neglect our own feelings do you even get us at all? And related, if I can give a small constructive suggestion about your ENTP videos: I know it’s harder to talk about the internal functions, but I feel like you talk about different aspects of social utility and social patterns so well, but not as much about our ... basic rationalness, for lack of a better word, because that is often the solid and stable and grounding part of our identity given Ne and Fe can shift a lot and Fi can be inaccessible and/or undesirable . (Maybe because those aspects are already covered or don’t belong in this video. I also understand that it’s hard to understand and talk about others’ internal functions.) I hope I didn’t come across too nitpicky and I feel I didn’t express myself clearly. But overall I really like this video anyway so it doesn’t matter much. And now I kinda feel bad dammit, because I didn’t wanna come across as critical.. Darn (predictive) Fe... Excuse the voice dictation and any corrections that escaped me

I very rarely make it a point to actually comment on things online these days. Not for a lack of desire to express anything but mainly because of my aversion to interactions over social media due to the little impact I feel like I actually have of the flow of a conversation, seeing how I can't adjust and shift my tone of voice etc as a response to the feedback of the other people involved as I would in real world interactions. In my experience very few people have been interested in playing along whenever a question has popped up that could be interpreted in a poor manner because most of the time they'll go for the worst case at hand and be dismissive altogether. Slightly frustrating at times albeit understandable too because of the sheer inquisitive nature that, at the very least, I tend to posses as well which, let's face it, isn't always as desirable and especially when you don't get the full picture, included the presentation. The latter often being what I put most emphasis on myself in order to actually get the desired outcome as described in this video haha. Besides making a few of my own anectodes in this context heard, my main point for leaving this comment was to commend you for having put in the time to not only dig into the subject at hand but also for presenting it to others in, what I would say, a pretty accurate way. I've been going through plenty of the different systems that are based on Jungian typology and even though most get plenty of stuff right according to me (sometimes in spite of drawing the wrong conclusions) and definitely would be suitable for the purposes of personal growth, I feel like the biggest component that most have missed is the plasticity and fluctuations of our brains and what that actually means in translation to reality. Therefore I find that most of what I've seen on your channel so far has been more logically consistent perhaps due to the inclusion of this understanding which is relieving for lack of a better term. Not saying that I don't appreciate others' attempts of understanding of course but seeing how "truth" has always had a very special meaning to someone like me it's way harder to "settle" before finding something that seems to be more aligned with my own perception of the interactions within any given subject. Now, how to get the understanding of our differences combined with our similarities across to people who are either: A. Uninterested, B. Dismissive or C. Neglectful of how well it could impact their lives, even according to their own wishes (somehow plenty of people seem to believe it would be solely for my own personal gain to tell them how they could go about realising how they and others work on a deeper level (I guess the irony is that they don't know how I work which is why they won't see how little it would benefit me, besides working around this exact parenthesis, how meta of me haha)) ; remains somewhat of a mystery to me. I also say this knowing that others don't necessarily need to be as curious about these things or at least not to the extent that I have throughout my life. This having been one of many topics I've pondered and played around with long before I ever touched even the most surface level of personality theory. With plenty of knowledge at hand these days however it all kind of comes full circle seeing how it would lie in my nature to be interested in the first place, oddly amusing thought. Oh well to anyone having taken the time to read all of this, or otherwise, although the sentiment might be harder to having been fully captured if not, hmm.. Have a good continuation of whatever time of day you're about to take on. Cheers.

@@CDOro I was just about to say that I agree but I realise it's kind of a mute point when I was the one making the opening statement haha. However, I guess I just wanted to add that it is pretty sad that people generally don't take their time to understand where others are coming from. Then again, I'm thinking that probably has to do with how most people live their lives too these days. When quick fixes and fast stimuli from things is the go to for most, stopping in their tracks towards the next like isn't very easy to do, habitually speaking. Seeing how that is also connected to the built in validation system of most social media platforms, presented in an external form, probably doesn't help people in discerning that them going for the next "win" in a discussion isn't necessarily the right thing to do in order for neither themselves nor others to grow. Adding layers of miscommunication on top of this and it's all sorts of messy even from its genesis. I guess that's why some of us end up here, to try and remedy some of this if possible *shrugs*. I'm glad you replied anyhow, it's nice to know that others can relate. :)

I've been typed as an INFP so many times by every test I have taken and it hasn't made any sense. I generally just thought I was an empathetic INTP since ( and side note: I really want people to understand that I am not trying to show off here or sound egocentric, I simply am trying to let people know my previously experienced dilemmas while establishing credibility) since I am top of the class at my school. I have this innate desire to understand the world. I am wanting to triple major in mathematics, physics and computer science and minor in philosophy, but I have to be more realistic, I know. I also have placed top 10 in many state art competitions, so I have this INFP-esque side to me. But when I was younger, probably up until I hit this stage of an extreme depression, I was much like the stereotypical ENTP. Looking for reactions, being the class clown, and trying to just make sense of things. Now I realize that I am an ENTP empath with a very developed Ti. My daily life consists of balancing logic with people's emotions, and lot of times I find myself affirming people excessively and then proceeding to tell them how wrong they are. Edit: Sorry, I am very bad with explanations. I realize that I am just coming across as trying to flaunt achievements. I provide the information that I use, as an Ne dominant, to question and try to make sense of my type. I say something like being the top of my class to try to communicate how much of a thinker I am, and how confused I have been about being an INTP. I spend a lot of time disconnected from the world and in my own head. But INTPs are said to be robotic, and I was typed as an INFP, plus my tritype is a 529. I am very much conscious and concerned with other's emotions, so that's where I get the idea of myself being just an INFP. Then I learned and actually started to understand cognitive functions, which made me realize just how wrong I was, and now things are making so much more sense and falling far better into this framework of how I view things and myself, now that I realize that I am an ENTP. I get very excited and honestly quite obsessed with the idea that I can simplify people down into 16 categories (I know people are not bound by their types), but it's so helpful to be able to use that when social interacting with people. I think these few paragraphs were really trying to have someone put themselves in my own shoes and have a buildup to the moment that I realized I was an ENTP, so they can sympathize with the excitement I felt of making sense of myself. That also may not be the case since that is something that I myself as an ENTP is inclined to do. Then again, this is a comment section full of ENTPs so maybe not, what's good boys.

Weirdly enough, I've never truly thought I was an ENTP until this video. I'd always tested as an ENFP (probably a bias formed from 16 personalities to give me a sense of identity, as I am lacking in the "values" or Fi department - which is just more evidence really), but even though I identified with some major aspects of the ENFP type, there was enough confusion left for me to question it - primarily when it came to these things you've described in your intro to CPT, such as the convergent Ne-Te of the ENFP compared to the Ne-Fe of the ENTP... but it was really when you mentioned the need for social affirmation of an ENTP, which most personality tests would consider a "Feeling" thing and automatically label me as an ENFP, even though I didn't strongly identify with the main use or symptoms of Fi. In short, thank you, you've provided a lot more clarity for me and allowed me to break from a long-time "box" of identity I'd eagerly hopped into during high school (also probably a bit early to start typing myself lol) and opened more room for self-awareness, or at least the awareness that I somewhat lack that self-awareness as an 18-year old ENTP ;)

But I really now see I didnt know anything about who he really was. I am not sure he knows he is a desperate user perhaps. He used the same poems to woe & court her I later found. So is it like a Jung & Freud divergence thing (the indisputable bond leads to undeniable train wreck lol). Or the truly only [singular] dominant function sharing in both misunderstood types (even by each other it seems) can not prove the tests of time? Or was this just a bad batch him or I? I appreciate the beautiful unbiased/unjudgy intricacies of your style so I ask to share & learn sir. TY in advance. I apologize to any for any inconvenience nada here is personal. I just want to know if this is a type I really should avoid door slam both ways.

@@blahwhatever123 That's very interesting! I consider the match excellent so long as there is time apart. An INFJ/ENTP combo video would certainly be an interesting project!

Hey Harry! Lemme say I love this video. It was really enlightening and affirmative. I have done the MTBI thrice, administered by my career guidance counselor when I was a student back at Oxford. My reports were ENTP twice and ENTJ on one occasion(however, my counselor veered towards ENTP and asked me to go through the ENTP reports to help me understand why I got typed as an ENTJ. His conclusion was that I am an ENTP, which is the main reason I tested myself again through the University( as in someone had to administer the MTBI), and got ENTP.Twice again. Anyways, having done this, I never bothered to check the online tests so far. However, lately I have come across videos and memes which have a very narrow definition of an ENTP- ADHD like, only picks arguments, doesn't care about people and so on. As funny as they come, they do not make much sense to me. It almost feels like a glance at what an ENTP could be like and then blowing that out of proportion(which makes me wonder if this is the case with all the 16 types, probably- maybe make a video about that?). It is definitely not representative of ENTPs. Like somehow being lazy, inconsistent and having a very low attention span is definitive of ENTPs. By no means am I not guilty of the above, these things happen from time to time, and yes I tend to speak more than listen, but even my speech is oriented towards understanding and enhancing the rapport and atmosphere and so on. Low attention span for things which do not interest me perhaps( which is also somewhat of an antithesis) because I can always find something interesting about most things, but a low or zero attention span is certainly not a definition of an ENTP, which seems to be doing the rounds. Now, coming back to you. I am really curious to know what you have studied and what field you work in. Your videos( the few that I've watched), show me that you have a deep understanding of the Personality type and I am glad to see that you look at each personality in depth and running away with the culture of what is most popular. Sad to say, I do the thing of watching most videos at high speed, maybe the bane of being a millennial or trying to squeeze in some TV time before I do something productive as a medical student, I had to slow down and listen to you. Because you make a lot of sense and take the time to teach what you know(I rarely have the sense to appreciate people for the good they do, so this is obviously rare). I wonder what MTBI you are, considering your analytical method of presenting your information. Sorry for the super long comment, but I am sure you understand, given that I am ENTP n all. Considering the deep need for affirmation, I hope you respond in kind! Haha, just kidding.
