“Falling out of love” isn’t such a bad thing. Unlike what the video portrays, its not the same as not wanting to be with someone. The honeymoon phase doesn’t last forever. Falling out of love is something you will go through after being settled in a relationship. It’s not a sign you should give up, but rather both work out harder. But many couples aren’t willing to do that. Some will cheat, dump you, just stop caring... Which is why it is associated with the end of a relationship.

Lemony Catapult Hum... Thank you for making such harsh judgements? I might not be the most experienced with relationships, sure. But I am in one and it’s been a few years now. I doubt I’m that clueless about this whole ordeal. Love is a chemical reaction. Something that goes beyond our conscious mind’s control. Mostly due to a big hormone rush (dopamine, oxytocin etc..). It’s not that deep. And you probably know that. So why the need to romanticize the simplest things ? “Falling in love” as we say, is experimenting that feeling. Falling out of love its opposite. Both terms give the idea that it’s something beyond our control (because it is). You could fall in love with anyone, it’s not that hard. It has barely anything to do with the deeper idea of love as a form of commitment, which I was clearly not talking about. I did not say that the honeymoon phase ending is due to people falling out of love. What I meant is that during the honeymoon phase, you’re less likely to experiment this lack of feelings. Which is why the early relationship stage seems so intense, and requires less of you to make it work. If you chose to let a feeling (that by definition will definitely come and go) affect a relationship that you put your trust, time and efforts into, then maybe you’re not in a great spot to be so condescending. Oh and we’re doing great, no need to worry.

I see my partner as a best friend, a confident, someone who brings out the best part of me and many other things that don’t involve one feeling, don’t depend solely on attraction (therefore love). Of course, I do get the butterflies and even if I did stop feeling them, I made the choice to care for my partner, to love him and stay committed. Loving is a choice, unlike falling in love. If that’s not your thing then good for you. You do you your thing girl. If you think relationships are all about butterflies, and that apparently science is wrong, then so be it. But that you think having a different opinion is enough for you to assume things about a stranger’s life while being so passive aggressive, that speaks for itself.

I have seen many relationships end on this basis; the romanticized idea of love is not holding up and people genuinely feel very anxious and sometimes even terrible over this. It's not the end of the world, and as you say loving is a choice. So yeah, sometimes knowing that can really help people so I think you make a excellent point

I want to work for a good relationship with my partner and never give up. It is hard. We're both human beings who make mistakes and sometimes, make wrong decisions (not talking about cheating or lying, just wrong decisions that lead to an argument). He is such a great dude indeed.
I hardly ever post comments on RU-vid, however my most recent ex expressed all these signs so I felt compelled. Of course at the time I was so sure she was the person I was meant to be with. It's a terrible feeling when someone claims you mean everything to them to only later have that same person slowly fall out of love with you. Literally everything in this video was spot on with us, there was even a few moments I found myself raising my voice or breaking down in front of her just to get her to realize how distant she was being towards me. And of course by the end of the relationship I was still there to support her. This is actually how my last relationship ended. I noticed the signs the last time we were together, but I wasn't entirely sure if that was the case. Turns out my hunch was right, part of me blames myself for not fighting for the relationship to continue, but a big part of me says that letting her go was the best thing to do. We're back to being close friends again, but I was pretty depressed the few months after the breakup. I did nothing but think about her, and wishing that she'd text me or call me to meet up and then ask to get back together. It obviously didn't happen, but it doesn't mean that it couldn't happen in the future. I still love her, but in the end, I'm just glad she's still a part of my life, and I'm looking forward to the next relationship I get into, whenever that may be 😊

I recently broke up with my boyfriend of 2 years. I fell out of love with him because i was the one putting all the effort into the relationship and he didn't. As a person who has fallen out of love with someone honestly it’s awful, it was particularly weird for me to deal with as I was always the madly in love and attached one in the relationship but I personally feel horrific that I ever put someone through this even if unintentionally, no matter what they had previously put me through. You can’t push it though, on either side of it. Sometimes you fall out of love and make it work but for me I just didn’t get my partner anymore and it wasn’t realistic to keep pushing because it was hurting us both more trying to force it to work. One thing I would say is don’t make my mistake of trying to internalise it and fix it on your own because communication is key even if it’s tricky. I hurt my ex way more by not communicating how I felt because they never understood why I was acting this way and was shocked when I split up with them despite things being off for a while. They tend to blame themselves and it can make it harder to move on. It’s so hard to talk to someone you love about something like this but it’s necessary.
I fit all five descriptors, as in I'm the one falling out of love. I love my bf as a person. He's the kindest and most loving person in the world and deserves all the amazing things in life. Still, I just no longer feel happy around him or even like I want to see or talk to him. He really does deserve better than me, and yet he convinces me I make him happy, which in turn makes me feel responsible for his happiness and suffocated, and thus the negative cycle seems to perpetuate... I often see quotes and comments that love is a commitment, a sacrifice, a give-and-take, and requires work. I agree that it's not supposed to always be easy. Honestly having a raw honest no holds bard conversation with your person is essential if you feel things aren't right and you're being taken for granted. We don't always see what we're doing or how we're making someone feel. I had to jackhammer it into my person's head 5 times over and over while they begged me to explain again so they could understand me and do better. When you're important to them how they handle those conversations with you is very telling.

I think there's a dynamic balance between smothering each other too much and too often and too little of it, whether physically or through online. The extension of the former can lead to long term burnout, whilst the extension of the latter can lead to long term disinterest/unattraction. So I think neither side of the spectrum of behaviour is exactly healthy and sustainable for relationships. It's all in moderation and respect/politeness/consideration for each others individual needs and feelings. And you have to let go of the outcome no matter what happens, whether it's lead to a break up or is seen through long term - whatever the reasons are. I know it's hard initially, but over time it's necessary for one's own growth and learning to survive and live better in the long haul. It's not the outcome that matters... it's what you LEARN about the outcome and it's processes leading up to it (so that you use that as fuel and knowledge through the learning process and analysis to improve your life, knowledge and strength to help you make better decisions across time - whether the problems lie within you or the other person, or both... but usually and commonly, it's both - because it takes two to tango in a relationship and requires individual responsibility to keep it well balanced in it's functioning)... THAT'S what matters the most.

@@sophiayamagughiI loved her until the last second of our relationship. i did everything for her. i thought she was the one for me. i was so happy. we were together for 2 years. she always said she loves me. i always talked about our future together and she said that wants that future with me. long story short due to our situation we agreed to have our V day 20 days earlier because we couldn't be together on 14 Feb. i prepared everything the gifts, candles, chocolates you name it and even an exotic flower which was impossible to bring it to where we live but i brought it and kept alive for her i thought she would be happy. i had no idea she is even thinking about breaking up. when i went to her she was acting differently she was a completely different person. and she broke up with me in the most horrible way. she didn't feel bad not even a little bit she wasn't even sad about it. i told her didn't you said you love me what about our future. she simply responded "well i guess i don't think like that anymore i don't love you" and i was so stupid that i tried to reason with her. i humiliated myself in front of her which later gave me an even more horrible feeling i cried and begged her to give us another chance and at least explain to me why she is doing this. all that time she was looking at me with a cold stare she didn't even tried to at least calm me down. well she left me and here i was totally destroyed i didn't even know who i was anymore i thought about killing myself everyday. i was broken. i don't think i ever be able to trust another girl after that.

Ironically, this video came up in my recommended around the time I broke up with my boyfriend (just a month ago). Decided to rewatch it...honestly, being on the other end is really difficult too. It’s just a shitty situation all around. I was with my boyfriend for over 5 years. Yet these past 3-6 months I haven’t been feeling like myself at all. School was killing me, I dreaded work, and my depression was at its worst. Soon I started questioning my feelings for my boyfriend. At first I pushed it back and didn’t want to make any crazy decisions. But as more time went on, I realized I was falling out of love with him. I wasn’t happy being in a relationship anymore. He didn’t do anything wrong, I just wasn’t feeling it anymore...and he was so in love with me. Always there for me. Great person. I felt SO much guilt...but after breaking up with him, I realized I needed this, and need some time to myself. It’s reassuring to read other comments about being in similar situations.

I clicked on this because I was the one who started falling out of love with my long distance partner. I know it was gonna be hard to talk about it, but I think it wouldn't be fair for both me and him if I just pretended like everything's okay and dragged the relationship longer when in reality I don't feel the same way anymore. I ripped the band-aid off last night, communicated with him directly about it. Both of us cried, because even though I might not feel the same way I did in the beginning for him anymore, I still didn't want to hurt him. Same. The best thing you can do is talk to one or two people you trust, who won't go telling all your secrets. If you choose good people, they will offer a unique perspective. Hopefully they will be unbiased and actually care about you and your S.O. They will encourage you to discuss your worries with your partner, when you are ready. If (unlike me) you can get up the courage to ask your partner directly, that's the main goal. Baby steps, and a few helping hands along the way.
It would be better to release your thoughts slowly by being present in the moment. Tell what you feel the earliest to your partner or to someone you trust so that your thoughts won't bottle up. It will be harder to find solutions and clarity once everything gets mixed. Emotions can get really high by then.
I wish I had seen this video sooner... I recently just lost the one that I thought was perfect for me. The first person that I could see myself spending the rest of my life with. I knew they were getting distant, but I thought it was just their own problems in their life they were going through. There are those who fall out of love and those who dont. Just dont underestimate those who are hopeless romantics. They will be the first to jab those empty feelings back at you. Love is a double edged sword. You either leave unscathed, or left bleeding.
My partner started talking to an old friend a lot a week ago. He told me he was having doubts. After a day he decided to stay with me... but he doesn't act the same way. He lied to me one night saying that we couldn't go out because he was tired, but it turned out he was with her because he needed to tell her about the final decision. I'm devastated because it had to be a secret and all of their chats too. I'm really scared of losing him Edit: he told me that he was in love with both of us. But he chose me, that he would try to keep her away even if that hurts him more than nothing.... yey good news they're seeing each other tomorrow. I don't know what the fuck should I do. I can't love myself enough and break up with him
Seems like he wants to breakup. Looks like hes talking to his friend more to get her opinion on what to do. Regardless, you dont need him but prepare for the worst.
Tread carefully. There's a fine line between privacy and lies/hiding stuff deliberately. His hesitation isn't a good thing. He needs to make up his mind, neither you nor her can do that for him.

My boyfriend and I met in high school but did not start dating till after we both enlisted into the military. we started dating while 500 miles apart. It took over a month for us to finally meet back home. It's been 7 months now and thousands of miles between us. Due to unforeseen events we have only spent 5 days together in total. However, we are still going strong. Don't give up!
